18878, okay artist discographies
Posted by B, Thu Mar-01-01 11:40 AM
i'm in the painstaking process of trying to put together discographies for the okay artist sites, but i know there's stuff out there that i don't have on the list yet. so i'm gonna post what i have for each artist in a new branch under this post.
if you have anything to add for that artist, post it up.

note: i'm not messing w/ all the stuff ?uest/soulquarians produced right now. so for the roots section, just roots stuff. damn, now i need to explain what that means. eff it. we'll sort it out later.

I'm doing this off the top of my head, no liners, so forgive mistakes:

Common - Cold Blooded (LWFC... I think The Roots are credited as a band on this)
Common - All Night Long (ODIWAMS... not sure, but I think The Roots are credited here too)

Soundtracks -
Burn Hollywood Burn - Bamboozled
Work - ???? I can't remember... it's that joint with the Billie Jean bassline...

Hmmm... I had one other one, but I've lost it... soon enough.

There's a french hiphop song by the French Group IAM that features Rahzel, named "Dangereux". Akhenaton, from this group, produced also "Prime Exemple" from Talib Kweli. There's also another french group La Relève who did something together with The Roots, but I've forgotten the name of the song, maybe I find it somewhere..
18902, RE: La Relève feat. The Roots
Posted by guest, Sat Mar-03-01 10:11 AM
The name of this EP is "Retour aux Sources." Roots crew members appear on 2 songs - "La violence (remix)" and "Phillystyle." Consequently, this is the only time that I've ever come across this French group (for any French heads who give a shit).

With regards to Razhel - he is not on the original album version of IAM's "Dangereux" (album - "L'ecole du micro d'argent"); he is on a live version that you can find on Napster.

Lastly, while were talkin' French hiphop, I know that Common did a song with a frog named Alliance Ethnik. THIS GUY IS A WACK ASS BITCH for those who don't already know. Nique sa mère. Peace.

This wasn't only a white label, it was also issued on Superrappin' (in the series of 12" with old-school bboys pictures on fruity colored covers...it was the only one that was not an extract from the compilation)

Actually, "Bend Ova" was the A side of that single, it was on his album (the B side was indeed just on the single).

But you're right, "Car Horn" wasn't the only one not on the compilation. I stand corrected.

Posted by guest, Mon Mar-05-01 06:25 AM
There is a group called Twice consisting of two sets of twin that recorded a version of Sparkle that was produced by D'Angelo and Angie Stone. It was distributed by Silas/MCA in 1997 and contains 4 versions. D is all over the joint, contributing background vox and it sounds like he's playing all of the instruments. (Has his signature rhodes/organ sound) There were promos of this single that surfaced before the album's cancellation. I have an extra cd copy and an extra 12" copy if anyone is interested.
