i guess deciding how much of yourself you want to reveal is one of the challenges of being an artist. black thought is obviously happy being enigmatic and distant. but i think people embrace artists like biggie, tupac, jill scott and erykah because they let the audience "know" them through their music.

but i still don't think having a "boring" life means that someone can't talk about a wide variety of issues. i don't think it's a coincidence that the roots most universally-liked songs are topical ("silent treatment", "what they do" and "you got me").

"clearly you are a fucking idiot. don't come up on this website and name some kool dj herc character, and think your punk ass is some hard core head. i'm sorry, does dj herc have an album, website or single? or is he just one of your boys who makes bootleg copies out of his garage? dilated peoples may not be the strongest mc's ever, but guess what? people have heard of them, much unlike your good friend kool jerk, or whatever the hell his name is." -- okayplayer's resident hiphop historian sistasoul
