17336, Ghostface Killah VS. Black Thought
Posted by guest, Tue Apr-10-01 08:35 PM
Hey, this might get flamed but I really dont' care and plus i was just curious to get some okayopinions, nahmean?? My man GFK is 1,000 levels past dope, and so is BT, that's a given. I know the "you can't compare them yada yada yada" but just to say, who's iller?? And don't jump to conclusions just cause this is a roots-orientated site. Really think about it. And if the only Ghostface verses you've heard are the radio cuts off the W, and you don't actually own Ironman and Supreme Clientele, then don't bother with a response. HOlla!!!

Black Thought is the NIGGA, nooooo question. BT is much clearer and easier to understand as an MC, but Ghost spits iller verses (if that makes sense). Ghost will make you buy the Wu lexicon and years later you'll be like "OH SHIT, THAT'S WHAT THE FUCK THAT MEANT!"

Both dem niggas is illmatic!

lyricist (BT) is a highly underrated mc, the other aint. but i feel they are BOTH equally dope. but when u listen to all of ghost's shit u'll see that his lyrics are more ABSTRACT than BT's. ghost say shit that is without boundaries while BT seems to have boundaries however illmatic as hell too, u know? ghost dont mind sayin fly shit that dont make sense (and i respect that) BT say shit that makes sense, but some shit that cant nobody compete with, cuz it be SO damn ill :-)

Yes, Thought is colder than Gza!!! Gza is nice, but he's HIGHLY OVERATED. Thought vs. Ghost: I'd give it to Thought. Ghost is nice; but Thought is even nicer!!! Peace yall . . .

Overrated? I always thought Genius was underrated. It's my opinion that most the members of the Wu Tang Clan get overshadowed by ODB's antics and Method Man's celebrity. I know they treat their band like a perfect democracy, where each member is viewed at the same level, but in any group of nine talented, versatile artists, some are going to shine. I think Genius is definitely the best lyricist in the group and thus I find his music the most intelligent. Don't get me wrong, Ghostface is nice as hell, but the one Wu-Tang concert I went to, heads got amped for Cherchez LaGhost, but Breaker Breaker got a pretty mild reception. Needless to say, I think the Genius track is better.

Nuwb or "blackness" is supreme balance before the chaos was introduced. It was a state of sound, right reasoning. That darkness was triple darkness, which is what you would call the absence of consciousness, or the state of being awoke. In actuality, the dream state is more real and peaceful than the chaos you meet once you are awake. A form of spiritual darkness responsible for the spark that turned on the light that is the life and intellect of all who breathe and think.
When the light is turned on again, the chaos begins. The differentiation begins. The separation begins. The rights and the wrongs, the goodness and the badness; the supreme balance is broken and the ego begins to verse the "I."

First off. BT has it over ghostface in all categories of MCin in my opinion. If you've ever seen ghost live then compared that to thought, i think its pretty obvious who the better mc is. Also, i feel like GZa is hands down the best original member of the Wu. A lot of people fronted on beneath the surface, but there were some deffinte joints on that record. that female njeri he had rappin on there was deep as it gets. she was like 2 steps ahead of most female MCs. Part of his production was wack, but I was deffinately feelin some of the other joints. Who could front on "ya wild cards, jack of all trades, those who parade their position, show their spades."

GOOD MATCH-UP. I DON'T GET AS HYPED WHEN I HEAR BLACK THOUGHT DROP A VERSE AS I DO WHEN I HEAR GHOSTFACE. IN MIC PRESENCE GHOST KILLS HIM. IN CLARITY BLACK THOUGHT GOT GHOST. LISTENING TO GHOST IS LIKE DECIPHERING ANCIENT LANGUAGES. ON THAT SAME TOKEN THOUGH GHOST SAYS A LOT MORE ILLER SHIT. BLACK THOUGHT RHYME STYLE IS BASICALLY SIMPLE IN CONSTRUCTION, GHOST TOTAL OPPOSITE. BOTH ARE GREAT EMCEES!! REALLY HARD TO CHOOSE ONE OVER THE OTHER. I GUESS I REALLY HAVE AN ANSWER AFTER BLACK THOUGHTS SOLO EVEN THOUGH TO BE HONEST EVERY ROOTS ALBUM IS DAMN NEAR A SOLO FOR HIM.

I've been wondering about this shit for about a month now after reading various posts about each artist and FUCK a battle...can u just imagine these two collectives in the studio together??!?!! The creativity would flow out the room into the hall and out into the street! Kelo and the Rza...Ahmir and Dennis Coles(GHK's government. Most ppl don't know that he executively produced most of the Wu albums right along with RZA. Check that out!) I would love to see these two cats on a track together! I don't care what nobody say, Ghost's shit is deciperable, and easy to flow with. His don't put words together cause they "pretty" and shit. Each word is twisted to take on another meaning. If this ain't hip hop in it's purest then what is? Thought's delivery to me is very similar. His flow is simple, but when you get into his topics and subtopics, he can get just as "undecipherable" (peep the quotation marks) as Ghost.
No matter what though...bost of these artists and collectives will go down as one of the greatest in hip hop.

I watched Rap City with Big Tigger.
Tigger asked Ghostface about the lyrics on his album and the meaning.
Ghost reply, (not a direct quote)"Sometimes I get blazed and I just start writting, and I just be written whatever comes out my mind."
Meaning: he doesn't know..
If Ghost don't know what the fuck he is saying, how can you?

peace...

Funny yo, I seen that show too and no that is not a direct quote. Have you listened to any ghost albums? I'm sure the man knows what he's writing. Most artists take this same approach to their music( now I've seen some shit that ?eust worte about scoring some gang') But yo maybe our methods of deciphering aren't the same. Any line you can pull off of any track that Ghost has spit on, bring it.

That's partially true. A lot of his lyrics can be deciphered. Some make no sense to the listener but so what. It's like absract art, you may not recognize the image but you can sometimes appreciate the beauty of it. Plus, Ghost is just original. You never know what he'll say.
He has incredible stroy telling skills too.

there isn't even a contest

Ghost puts 100x more passion into it than thought, and thought ain't no slouch either.

He just gets you amped. Lyrically he's tight. His flow is great and his storytelling is incredible b/c he rarely kicks them in a straightforward manner, yet we feel like we were there.

i havent heard enuff of tony to argue who's better. but i see starks as more hype, thug type, bust you in the back of yo head, type mc. while thought seems more of a comtemplative, laid back type mc. it seems like you get hype more off G-diddy's energy rather than his lyrics, and vice versa for BT-diddy (inspired by the boondocks strip). as for who's better? wouldn't be easier if you asked "who's better: black thought or....mase?"

Motherfuckers act like Thought don't make hype joints. See "The Ultimate", "Adrenaline", "The Lesson Pt III"....come on, my man KILLS hype joints. I'm listening to Ghost's "Nutmeg". Sounds like a really hyped drunk freestyle. Lyrically, Thought is killing it. Somebody called Thought's style simple? What the? YOU do that shit if it's so simple. Dude has a variety of flows and can sound fly on a wide variety of tracks (including the circus music of the "Burn, Hollywood, Burn" remake).

Listen to Ghost doing a socially conscious rhyme on "I Can't Go to Sleep" versus Thought on, say, "Pump Ya Fist" or "Quicksand Millenium". Come on....Ghost gets over on emotion. Dude is like a cross between Tupac and Kool Kieth...I love him and all, but he isn't even in my Top 20 in this, too much irreverent shit that sounds like he freestyled it at 2 in the morning. This thing should be about SONGS.

You couldn't be more wrong. Nutmeg, aka Track 2 on Supreme Clientele???? Sounds like a drunk freestyle??????????????????????????? You shouldn't be allowed to post on okayplayer EVER again for saying that. Ghost's rhyme scheme and delivery in that song is sick. Name one rapper that even compares to Ghostface. His style is unparalled. He's in a class of his own. Tupac and Kool Keith??? That's soooooo untrue and terrible. He's nothing like either one. Ghost is iller than Black Thought hands down. Holla.

It's obvious you haven't hung out with a lot of people who freestyle WELL. Yes, "Nutmeg" with its non-sequitirs sound very much like a drunk freestyle. A drunk freestyle from an emcee with strong delivery, but a drunk freestyle nonetheless. You can't say that "nutmeg" sounds anywhere near coherent, you big microphone hippie.

Yeah, I know them both through their many endeavors, but I honestly feel that you can't compare two people like that... See, the vibe is different, you can't hear GFK over a ?love beat, but you can ALMOST hear Thought over a GINUINE RZA beat, but the vibe is not the same... I can almost bet though, that if you get a "gassed up" Premo beat, you can hear them both shine over that. For example, something old, like "Come Clean", and they will both rip it, and after it's done, you can't say who's the best... but that's my opinion, and people who will generaly compare them would actually be fans of both...
