1635, ?uestlove hit me in the face!!!
Posted by koan, Sat Oct-02-04 07:57 AM
...well... with a drumstick, that is...

scene: charlottesville, va, friday 10.1... the show's wrapping up... it's been a great show and all and they're throwing towels and shite into the audience... great idea... no prob... so the folx near the stage are getting all the love and then ?uest starts throwing out his drumsticks... and i'm like, cool...

...problem is, though... i'm quite a way away from the stage... out in the stands, actually... at least a hundred feet... likely more...

...as a joke, i put up my hand, calling for a stick to be tossed my way... not even thinking i'll be seen, let alone thrown to...

...all of a sudden, i see, pinwheeling through the air, a drumstick... i'm like "holy shit, he's trynna throw it out to me"...

...but it's coming in too fast... spinning around and it's hard to get a bead on how to catch it...

...then... POW!

so, his aim was on, dead on, really... but apparently, i suck at catching... drumstick to the upper lip... damn... shit bounces off and some other cocksuck in a lower row grabs it and disappears while i'm trying to make sure i've got all my teeth... i'm left with a swollen/cut lip and an only moderately entertaining story to tell...

huzzah. woe is me.

Posted by koan, Sat Oct-02-04 08:13 AM
...lip all elephant man style now and shit... damn...

...nah... i'm just dickin' around... it doesn't hurt, really anymore... just thought the story was (relatively) amusing...
1638, ?uest should do this more often

against The Roots, Geffen Records, promoter of the show, the club it was being held at! Nothing personal, you'll still be a fan!

?uest put it on the money, and he/she dropped it. Shooooooot...that's not the quarterback's fault...it's the receiver's! Nice throw though.

This could give them some long awaited publicity.

Since we know Geffen isn't getting them any.

nah... didn' see... as aforementioned... trying to make sure the teeth were still there...

...s'cool, though... swelling's gone down... soreness gone... pride still wounded...

...just really wish i'd at least been able to get the damned stick...

...ah well... cool show, by the way...
...what was with the odd version of "the seed"?

>...what was with the odd version of "the seed"?

well either that---or you would've wrote "man yall do the same "seed" over and over again...."

now tell me i aint lying.

tell me you aint enjoy it.
1652, i thought it was tight
Posted by illeagle, Mon Oct-04-04 05:57 PM
i was surprised most of those uva kids recognized it right away even though you guys flipped it so much... highlight of the show was your ray charles ish with martin's sunglasses, i need a picture of that

wish yall woulda done more old stuff though, though i guess it's obvious why you didn't... and i was hopin for maybe a dipset cover (i was the one that yelled out "dipset" when yall came out, if you heard that)... tight show as usual though

>well either that---or you would've wrote "man yall do the
>same "seed" over and over again...."

...actually... i wanted to hear the studio version... was pumped for it... took me a sec to recognize the one y'all played... you know me (well, okay, you don't) i'm old and accustomed to my ways... damned kids with your hip wop or whatever you call it...

>
>now tell me i aint lying.

...um. no. wait. maybe. uh...

>
>tell me you aint enjoy it.

...i did... 'twas cool...

...also... notice how the mass of undulating fratboys and soror-sluts that make up the uva student body really only responded to 'iron man' (it was iron man you guys played, right?)... yeah... reminded me of that chappelle skit where they play electric guitar for white folx and it gets 'em open...

...studio version of 'the seed' woulda gotten 'em open though...

but hey... i'm not the one with the drumsticks... i'm just the one with the swollen lip...

huzzah.

i noticed the same thing... i think that's the most hype the audience got the whole show
1655, Nah

Same old seed rocks. This is more a rock song than a rap song, just play it the way we know and love it.

(disclaimer: i wasn't there so i have no idea how awesome the version you played was or was not)

That said, it ain't the kind of song you need to switch up for concerts.

1656, yall need to make up yall mind now

the new version of the seed is incredible. i have listened to it over 100 times since i got that bbc mp3. i was tired of hearing the same old seed at shows. although if i think about it, most those kids probably haven't seen the roots so they were disappointed that u didn't play the original. but eff em.
1659, he did it to me too
Posted by SampolinMoAko, Sat Oct-02-04 03:07 PM
i got hit in the nose...about 3 years ago at that dc show with kweli, musiq, jazzies, etc...

we need to form a support group.

my sis goes to uva, said the show was tight.

It musta been like four or five years ago in DC at the 9:30 Club, and his drumstick broke mid-set and caught me in the dome. I didn't even know what it was until my friend asked me if I tried to scoop it up after it hit me and I was like, oh that's what that shit was. I thought someone from the crowd had thrown some sort of blunt object toward the stage and had come up short.
1661, RE: he did it to me too

Feels like an inside joke. During the show, Questlove looks at Knuckles and they agree on a member of the audience to hit... End of the show, BAM!
They go backstage; "Good throw, man!"
