LG: Label_Guy...wouldn't you think?

Label Guy...what do you mean is "signin" here...as in leavin' Rawkus? When i first read this I thought you meant Hi-Tek *VERSUS* MCA (as in The Beasties) on some battle-type ish...I was like, damn, how would that work? But if Hi-Tek is leavin' Rawkus, I wish him well...the so-called "saviors of the underground" kinda got whack.

as long as "ya'll" don't force him to put out any near-mediocre full lengths.

Now that we have your atttention Mr. Guy, what's the deal with Black Star? Mos is working on not one, but two albums. Kweli is working on HIS solo now. What is a realistic date/year?

Only they know, cuz we certainly don't. That's one album they dangled in front of me to get me to leave Priority and come here Feb. 99. Like y'all I'm getting impatient.

Easy, lets set the record straight, I bounced then the shit died.
I was doing the marketing there during the latest stretch of the good years: Westside Connection, MP & No Limit, Cube, Jay-Z (Reasonable Doubt), Mack 10 (3 golds), Friday Soundtrack, Heltah Skeltah (Nocturnal), Ras Kass (Soul On Ice).....I gotz a LOTTA Gold & Platinum plaques at the crib and lotz of GOOD stories so it served its purpose (Did I ever tell you the one when Lil Half Dead beat the shit out of an employee in my office and I had to pull him off the cat?).
The key thing when you work for a label is reading the writing on the walls and bouncing BEFORE the lights go out.

pros: bigger label, possible bigger budget(?), more promotion.

cons: leaving small(er) label that is gaining some pretty heavy weight and gives a lot of support to their artists. Also, w/ going to mca, tek will be one of 100 on the roster. Now, mca could go full fledged behind him, or, just put him aside, like another pair of okayartists we know.

things will prob. turn out for the better. like they were bad in the first place! thanks label_guy for the inside info
peace

Hi Tek was displeased with Rawkus and how they handled his album. They forced him to keep a song he did with Snoop off the album cause they felt it was too high-profile.

okay...what the eff does that mean? I thought they'd WANT a high-profile collabo, would that NOT generate more pub for the album? How can you blame any artist for lackluster/unsatisfactory sales if you don't push his product properly. Snoop has an album out, an appearance in 'Baby Boy', Eastsidaz...I mean damn, HE'S DOIN' IT right now!! I guess that is just the nature of the business.

from all the interviews he's done lately it doesn't seem that he was too impressed with Rawkus right now but on the other hand I'd hate to see MCA saturated with of artist in that vein IMHO. At least he'll get better promotion with you all.

heads talking about saadiq and menelik, l-fudge, etc. but name one label that doesn't have the same problems. Rawkus is a record company and has the same drama as any other label, no matter if it is an "underground" establishment.
