I start thinking, how many souls hip-hop has affected
How many dead folks this art resurrected

I thought it meant all the gangstas, hustlas, drug dealers, people who would've ended up dead had hip hop not been there to give them other options in life...that these people would've ended up dead or in prison (which is another form of death too) so selling records had switched their life's direction around, so that they wouldn't have to be selling drugs, robbin' stores, etc...but that's just my opinion...
