1 lost the popular vote by 3 million people. the other struggles to win 40% of the votes *in the democratic party* outside of states like id, nd, and vt.

thats an interesting way to make the case that the party should run anti-pragmatic(?) candidates because people dont vote for pragmatism.

trump relies on a heavily concentrated minority base that depends on anti-democratic aspects of our electoral system to win (electoral college, voter suppression, low turnout, misinformation, etc).

bernie relies on a heavily concentrated minority base that depends on anti-democratic aspects of our electoral system to win (caucuses, low turnout, divided field, etc).

those are the blueprints you think the national (D)emocratic party should follow to win federal elections?

numbers over narrative. people need to stop reinforcing storylines that feel good to them over facts/data.

if you ask anyone would they start with a pragmatist who gets the votes of a broad swath majority or a firebrand who passionately excites a minority of voters...the minority candidate is obviously the suckers bet.

and i like how obama has been revised as some wildcard energetic progressive (by the same people who call him a neoliberal republican no less) despite the fact he ran on a platform safely within the mainstream of the democratic party and even triangulated on important issues to appeal to a coalition of working class whites and disaffected republicans (mitt romneys healthcare plan).

the obama coalition wasnt built because he wasnt pragmatic. it was the pragmatism that built the coalition. if political coalition building isnt pragmatic then i dont know what is (ask bernies campaign lol).
