209779, So a video from my wedding is kinda starting to go viral.
Posted by Brew, Wed Feb-12-20 11:27 AM
My wife's cousins set up a flash mob to a song by Kelly Clarkson who is (hilariously) my wife's all time favorite singer. Wife is *extremely* animated and excitable so when the whole thing started to take shape at the reception she absolutely lost her shit. It was hysterical. My cousin was the videographer and took a pretty damn good video of the whole thing, and popped it onto his YouTube page just assuming all of us could see it and maybe it would branch out to friends of friends and things like that. We joked that the video was gonna explode and the wife would be on Ellen or some shit, but we didn't really have any kind of true expectations.

Fast forward 2 months and some blogger got ahold of the video. As of Monday at noon the video had 2,000 views on YouTube. As of right now it has 101,000 and counting (fast). Pretty cool. My cousin got a contract offer from some company in LA for the rights to the video but the contract was shit, very heavily weighted to benefit the buyer. So we're gonna wait it out and see if it blows up to the point that we get more and better offers.

Anyway pretty cool stuff. We'll see if it goes anywhere. If nothing else it's cool to be able to say a video from our wedding hit 100k in views.

I suppose you guys could help by going to check it out. It's on Facebook on a page called "Rare". Or you could just go to YouTube and type in "Kelly Clarkson bride freak out" and it's the first result, or should be. Share it with your friends! Get us to a million! We're trying to retire and shit. Haha.

Edited to include video. No idea why I didn't post it originally haha:

209781, Haha my bad. Edited to include it.

For some reason I thought maybe they wouldn't be considered "original hits" if it was a secondhand link but that doesn't even make sense now that I actually put some thought into it so - linked.

Anyway thanks homie. The flash mob was the most post-worthy part of the wedding but really the entire day was perfect and went off without a hitch. We were so happy. I rapped "Who Am I (What's My Name)" and "Gin & Juice" with the band so that was cool as well. Couldn't have asked for a better day.
209782, lol! actually...I can kinda see what you mean with that concern...

209783, LOL @ your edit.

Yea - it's definitely like she's watching a video live. In fact a lot of people have said something like "she was so excited I thought Kelly Clarkson was there in person singing the song"

Like I said, the wife is animated haha.
209784, That was dope!

209794, Haha definitely. And thanks.
Posted by Brew, Wed Dec-16-15 12:12 PM
>she cried like Kelly was in the building

She really did.

Thanks to everyone above too. In response to the person who said that my boys were good sports about it, you are 100% right. You have no idea. The kid that came in for the "third verse" is one of my longtime best friends, known him since I was like 9. If you look closely right at the end of the chorus that leads into that verse, you can see him kinda sneaking through the crowd to go up to my wife, which is why she reacted the way she did. He previously had no part in the mob which was intentional. You can see my reaction too, I die laughing and clap cause the kid came out of nowhere unexpectedly. Was awesome.

I think my favorite part is how my wife, who is a personal trainer and gym instructor as a side job, picked up on the dance in 2 minutes. From what I understand it took the rest of that crew like weeks and in some cases months to learn that dance and she picked it up by the third verse. Haha.
209795, RE: Haha definitely. And thanks.
Posted by Tiggerific, Wed Dec-16-15 09:25 PM
I was going to say that she must be some kind of instructor because she did pick that up pretty quickly. The only people I know who do things like that are dancers, choreographers themselves, or instructors.

That was awesome! But, if you are instructor you kinda have to be animated. :)
209796, congrats on the wedding

She has legit been her biggest fan since she won American Idol back in, what, 2001? 2002?

So...if that could happen, it would be fucking awesome. I think she might die too so we may need some medics ready to pounce should she pass out or something. Haha.

Posted by Kira, Wed Dec-16-15 04:00 PM
This wedding celebration looks fun. Yes, I'd be the black dude in the background celebrating at some point. That woman in the white dress looks like she works on her shoulders. I mean in that in the most respectful way possible of course.

Did y'all practice the choreography or was it on the spot? Congratulations on the wedding and I wish you and your family the best.

*EDIT*

Watch this start Wedding Warz with people trying to top this celebration.
209822, Haha - well, yes, of course!

Haha thank you - as I mentioned in one of my responses above, she is a personal trainer and teaches classes at gyms in Boston so yes - she definitely works on her shoulders and I wouldn't have taken that as any kind of disrespect.

>Did y'all practice the choreography or was it on the spot?
>Congratulations on the wedding and I wish you and your family
>the best.

I had no idea this was happening so I was just as surprised as she was, though not as excited or animated. I'm standing to her left and she comes up to me a few times at the beginning kind of like "WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON?!?" and you can almost see me lip "I don't know!!" haha.

I guess her cousins sent a mass e-mail to a bunch of our friends asking them all to practice the dance. There's videos online apparently so it can be done alone in your home with minimal instruction and you don't have to be with the group to choreograph it. It's a pretty simple dance in hindsight but at the time I was so impressed by it haha.

fuck you and iPhone's autocorrect.

I SKIPPED THROUGH THE VIDEO THE FIRST TIME AND DIDN'T SEE ALL OF THE AUDIO. Of course I watched it all the way through later. Don't let that stop the dogpile. By the way, I was talking to the original poster not you or anyone else. Excellent job on your part trying to derail a great thread about fun at a wedding.

blame it on the alcohol, the weed.. something.

cause there is no excuse for asking if the woman in white is the wife in a wedding video.

maybe they wear different colors for weddings in his part of the country?

Great great guys. I've been following them for years, partied w/them all in Newport RI after shows multiple times, met the whole squad new and old. Super nice dudes, and they are amazing live. So glad we had them play our wedding. It was like a legit concert rather than a wedding haha.
209900, first of all your wife and you are adorable.

>Second..seeing that band on stage made me miss my band so
>much. Singing at wedding receptions is so much fun

I bet. I had fun just doing the two Snoop songs I did with the band haha. Kind of felt like I missed my calling.

That band (Felix Brown is their name, look them up on YouTube) is FANTASTIC. The wife and I both separately were huge fans of them before we even got together. I spent 3 straight summers renting a house in Newport RI on the beach and they would play once every few weeks at a local Newport blues bar. They quickly became a band I followed online and saw at any opportunity in Boston and elsewhere. When we were first planning the wedding we actually booked the band for a date before we even had a venue haha. That's how bad we wanted them to play our wedding.

There was a scary moment a few weeks before the wedding....the lead singer, who was kind of the main reason we loved them so much (he was the energy of the band and was the guy who did most of the hip-hop stuff) quit the band. We got an e-mail from the guitarist who was kinda the band's lead businessman. We tried to talk Mike (the lead singer) into doing one last show but he refused. We were pretty fired up since we booked them a year prior and thought he should honor his contract. But the band assured us they had a fill in who was just as good. Turned out they weren't bullshitting, the backup guy was excellent. Bullet dodged. The wife was not happy when she first got the news haha.

Anyway - how long ago did you have a band and why don't you play anymore? I imagine that being extremely fun.
209902, what snoop songs did you do?

It's up to over 5 million views which is kinda cool.

And even better than that - presumably due to the fact that it's still been getting hits over three years later, a casting producer for Kelly Clarkson's upcoming tour e-mailed me and my cousin in December. He said they were looking to get some of her biggest fans involved in a documentary they're doing about said tour, complete w/VIP & backstage access, and meeting KC. So I FaceTimed with this casting guy back before Christmas to try and explain just how big a deal this would be for her. I was basically like, you see her reaction to the damn flash mob ? Multiply that by a trillion haha. Add to that the fact that my wife is actually a naturally hilarious person, no bullshit she's the funniest person I've ever known personally. I've been urging her to get on stage locally for years. So getting her involved in any widely-distributed documentary, or whatever it is, would be beneficial for all involved, IMO.

Anyway I just got a call from the casting guy, confirming that we were fucking approved. Holy shit. All I know as of now is about the above-referenced documentary/video involvement, VIP access/meet&greet type thing, and we'll be sitting in the front rows of one of her Boston shows in March. Outside of that he's gonna get back to me with all the other details. Can't even really put into words how amped I am to surprise the wife with this - obviously she will be over the moon about meeting her idol, someone who's inspired her tremendously for YEARS. Shit I'll prolly have a lifelong hall pass to do anything I want forever haha.

I know I know - WPS. Haha. Nah but in all seriousness I'm pretty fucking excited to be able to play even a small part in making this happen for her. She's wanted to meet KC forever. It'd be like me meeting Snoop or Nas backstage or something.

Hahah - oh believe me she's VERY well aware. We wouldn't be able to co-exist otherwise, haha. I mean hip-hop is such a big part of my overall being that a person couldn't spend more than an hour in my presence without figuring it out in one way or another.

>You are a trooper for not only be a part of that, but for
>posting it on okp as well. Good on you man!

Haha yea I posted it here knowing damn well I would catch some flack. But I also assumed (turns out, rightfully) that it would all be good-natured despite the obvious "WPS" going on all up in that video haha. But I ain't ashamed or embarrassed at all. She and I like very, very, very different music (obviously) but at the same time, a huge part of why we get along so well is specifically *because* we're both so musically inclined, no matter how different our preferences may be.

Eventually maybe I'll post my Snoop performances just to balance out the inherent corniness LOL. Funnily enough we have yet to watch our entire wedding video, and it's been 3.5 years almost. Not sure why actually.

Posted by Brew, Sat Mar-09-19 02:47 PM
Pretty surreal. Wife is still shaking about it haha. Originally I thought (as I posted above in January) that this was gonna be a backstage/VIP thing but later I found out that the plan was to bring us on stage for this Q&A portion of her show, so that's what is in the video below. It was pretty fucking cool not gonna lie. It was wild standing on stage in front of 10k (give or take) people talking to KC. Considering how anxious I was about this whole thing it went really well.

I'll come back with more stories, it was a really fun nite - but figured I'd post the vid here for anyone interested. Apparently we may also be flown out to LA in the fall to be on KC's new talk show so we'll see if that comes to fruition.

As for the show, I'm not a KC fan per se ... her music isn't necessarily my cup of tea but she has fucking PIPES for days. And her band was *outstanding*. So all in all a great show even if it's not really my preferred music.

Anyway here's the vid. We come in around the 14 minute mark.

We were on the damn floor ! They were great seats, relatively. But because of the large standing room space and another large space for a "bar" right @ the stage it was ultimately kinda far back. Still worked out tho.

But yea KC was great - she made it so easy, she was very conversational and like you said, surprisingly funny. So that eased any nerves we may have had.

Anyway I appreciate the kind words my man !
209937, she's so friggen cute man!!

Yea we have fun man, last nite may be the peak of fun forever for Kate haha but yea - above all we just want to have a good time, and that's prolly why being on stage felt so easy cause KC has such a fun vibe about her too. So it seemed to flow pretty naturally in the moment and watching it after.

I actually forgot about that end part where my wife brought up that I was her first kiss lol. KC was like "y'all been together that whole time ??!" hahaha no no no. There was a loooong break in between. Haha.

Anyway thanks again man for the kind words.

And side note the passport thing happened to me! I was the offender...our ten year anniversary trip to the Dominican Republic. I realized while trying to check in that my passport had expired. I lost it, my wife was such a G. She figured out to get an expedited passport the same day and we ended up leaving the next morning.

Again, thank you for allowing us to share this with you. The magic of this place is the actual people behind the names and their stories.

No problem man - glad to hear it cheered you up a bit. My wife tends to have that effect on people. Her pure, visceral joy is really magnetic, as you clearly witnessed and experienced haha.

Hahaha no way ! That's pretty wild. Happy to know that we aren't the only ones to experience this. It's so funny that your dynamic was largely the same as ours - one person w/expired passport, flipping out. The other taking a deep breath and figuring out plan B. Glad it worked out for you guys and you were still able to go to DR.

In our case, after a rough 30 minutes or so we called my friend who works in the state house, who assured us he'd be able to coordinate getting her an expedited passport the next day. But I was adamant about not going back home. We had just bought our condo a couple weeks prior to our wedding and we literally still had our mattress on the floor lol. Something about sleeping in our empty condo the nite after we got married just didn't feel right hah. So I went to the front desk, the airline attendant already kind of knew our situation (my wife doesn't cry quietly, shocker I know) and couldn't have been more helpful/understanding. While I was talking to her I heard something about Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon over the intercom at the airport so I asked about flights to Vegas, and the attendant told me that she and her husband had done Vegas and the Canyon for their honeymoon and had the time of their lives. I felt like that was a good omen. So, boom, we went to Vegas and rented a car for a few days to drive down to the Canyon. We had such a great time. And we found out during that week that the weather in the Bahamas was monsoon-like all week, so I guess despite some lost $$ that it all worked out for the best haha.

>Again, thank you for allowing us to share this with you. The
>magic of this place is the actual people behind the names and

No problem man - thank *you* (and everyone here) for all the kind words and for enjoying the ride w/me. You ain't lying - I know we can get bogged down w/"typical OKP" and shit like that from time to time but this place is truly the best for this reason and many others. Glad to be a small part of it.

>You low-key can leave the toilet seat up TIL YOU DIE.

We don't really fight a lot, fortunately ... but no joke, so cliche, *this* is one of the few things that she absolutely grills me about whenever I forget to do it. And the whole toilet seat gender-war thing has always been perplexing to me. Like why and how did this become such a major issue in every hetero relationship ever ?! Who cares ? It's not like the toilet seat is heavy, it doesn't take any time at all to put it up or down. It's just there. Such a strange marital "issue".

But anyway yea. I'ma test this out. Next time she gets on me about it I'm just gonna text her a pic of her hugging KC and not say a word.
209957, I'm just sayin
Posted by infin8, Tue Mar-12-19 11:56 AM
this is low-key the move of all moves.

In this era of 'swipe left' the merits of a meaningful relationship get kinda weird.

This is something she'll remember forever.

I laughing, cause I don't ever think I've made anybody in my LIFE this happy.

Yeah....just keep a picture of her an KC on you AT ALL TIMES. Fart at the dinner table and flash that shit. LOL

Yea she's truly great and I obviously have a newfound respect level for her after all of this.
