They shot this video around my hood in the BX, especially in Haffen Park.

Imma have to rewatch the video, but them cats were not playing. One in particular was the grimiest dude I ever seen. When I was in HS he stayed in the park, doing pullups, drinkin 40s..regular hood shit. Had the nasty buck50 on his cheek i think...he was just the thug prototype.

i was shook.

**edit**

Actually, dude wasnt a rapper, he was part of the crew. hes the one who got himself thrown out the club during the last verse. and sure enough, here he is, like i said, in the park, drinking. fuck that dude.

Once Rappin Ron died it was over, I went to high school with Young Twax we would Kick it with them laying down tracks, cause Twax was supposed to be the next to blow. When Ron died that was it, last time I saw Dangerous Dame was at the gas station on 98th by Brookfield in'99. He was so gone off that dope, he didn't recognize me or my potna who was with me and he had known us for years

Have to admit I'm curious what they sound like given the nerdiness of the name. Are they similar to MC Paul Barman in that they are bookish and wordy?
206573, If you've heard of Willie Evans Jr. and Paten Locke...
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jan-22-15 02:34 PM
...they were members.

They don't really sound anything like Paul Barman. Yeah, they were "nerdy", but their shit is definitely soulful. 9th Wonder did a beat for that. They basically founded the Jacksonville, Fl scene.
206574, I have no clue
Posted by Numba_33, Thu Jan-22-15 03:08 PM
who the first two people you mentioned are. I'll give a listen to the link you provided since I was so dismissive from the jump, assuming I'll remember when I get home tonight.
206575, I was wrong to label them nerdy
Posted by Numba_33, Thu Jan-22-15 10:41 PM
They remind me of De La for some reason. The songs sounds pretty dated, but that's not their fault since I'm assuming these are fairly old songs you linked up.

I sold a few tapes to help finance our move from MI to AZ and I reeeeeeally regret it.

I had a pristine copy of Kid Rock's single "You Don't Know Me", it fetched a pretty hefty sum.

The original Ichiban released version of Vanilla Ice's "Hooked" album brought in a good amount of loot

I sold a copy of Eric B and Rakim's "Let the Rhythm Hit Em" single, produced by DJ Mark the 45 King AND only recorded on one side of the tape sold for the most money.

Recently I was thinking of selling my copy of Cool C's "Life In The Ghetto" but I think I'll hold on to it. I have to be one of only a few people that actually went out and bought that joint and with his execution looming (though he was granted a second stay), I felt it in bad taste to sell it.

I remember the Source reviewing their album, but I don't ever remember it hitting the stores. They weren't really respected as mcs, and their dance/choreography careers were popping, so I guess they gave up rap.

Ten Thieves dropped two 12" with a total of three songs. Mop Tops just had that one 12" with two tracks. I think that's the most we ever got.

I remember the Source review, but I'm pretty sure it was for the "It Don't Matter" 12".

If it was recorded, it's never leaked. Which is strange.

were somehow okp affiliated, like maybe one of them posted in the lesson? this would have been iono 02, 03, something like that

from Hawaii i think?

and they had like overlapping crew names, or two names, or something, but one phrase that is coming to mind is 'gravedigga jones' or 'gravedigga johnson' or some shit like that lol

had a lot of harmonic buzzy sounds in their beats, like some early or pre sa-ra shit, or beats that sounded like they would be on samurai champloo if that makes any sense

i thought they were real dope at the time

only heard of em through okp

gravedigga jones and coffin ed johnson (duh im an idiot)

still sound real dope for their lane at that time, but striking how far ive moved from that lane, would never listen today

Sam Sever's beats on that album were some of my favorite in '91 though. I pulled that tape back out that summer for "Room To Breathe", "This is a Visit", and a few others strictly for the beats.

Also, one of my very first beats had me replaying much of that piano riff over my own drums.

They were trend hoppers. They were on that hyper semi-yelling shit their first LP and then flipped to some third tier Native Tongues shit their second LP. Don't get me wrong, they had some good material but that trend hopping rubbed me the wrong way.

Nah it was trend hopping to me. They even worked with JD and not the one from Detroit. They were all over the place on that first record. Had I not heard that I could have rode with them more. We Run Things had me sold but that album was not the move.
206956, "We Run Things" and the "Remember We" remix earned them a pass

My man was on some Wyclef Jean steez at the time and carried his guitar around a lot. We just finished doing some music at the crib and met up with some other friends at McDonalds. I pick up the guitar and start strumming the baseline to Deep Cover while we're in the parking lot. Everybody starts getting into it. Some others come out from Mc'Ds to watch. After a while, a wide bodied BMW pulls up and parks. It's Scorpio. He comes over and gets right in the cypha. He and my man go back and forth for a while. Totally random, but totally cool

Thread is on zombie mode now...

I'm trying to extract some files from an old hard drive of mine right now (a drive I bought new back in '99) and I came across a folder for Met Fly's "Wiggin Out" album I got from IRC ('cause I couldn't find the vinyl anywhere back then). The files are too damaged to restore but seeing it caused me to run a search for dude's shit.

http://vulgar.bandcamp.com/album/met-fly-wiggin-out-lp

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbmIZarW6MI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7-b7eJQhXs

Got my intro to Met Fly from a tv segment, prolly on MTV, about artists carving out a fanbase online. This was before the days of Soundclick, soundcloud and alladat. Metfly's website had a lil Flash animation with "Chip off the Block" playing in the background.

Doomsday, Flow Central, and Chip off the Block was my shit.

Here's a song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo4-2xq9V_k

There's a funny song about this memory.

Around October during my freshman year of college, the campus organizations had a bazaar in the Mall. (Lowry Mall. I went to Mizzou.)

I walked up to the radio station's table and talked a little bit with a student who hosted a radio show. He gave me this tape which I went back and listened to.

It was this dope song from this crew out of Oklahoma of all places. I can't remember too much about the song but their video had them in a meadow I want to say. Uptempo song. A group with maybe 4 rappers. Kind of like Goodie MOB, I guess.

Anyway, I think the name of the group is Waveform 7.

Fast forward ten years when YouTube is a thing. I go and search for Waveform 7 and notice the video that's in this post.

The video didn't look familiar at all. But I cued it up and watched it.

The song in the video is nothing like the song I remember. Probably because it isn't the same song. HA!

So, the song I wanted to hear I have no way of getting access to.

But this Southside song isn't bad, nonetheless.
