190780, Remove a song; improve an album.
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jul-22-15 12:19 PM
As it says. Only one song. What you got?

Stankonia: Snappin' & Trappin'

After starting so strong, this song immediately yanks me out of Stankonia. It comes outta nowhere and slaughters my vibe. There's definitely a handful of songs that Stankonia would be better without, but I've gotta start with S&T.

Posted by csuave03, Wed Jul-22-15 01:40 PM
all three of those verses are cool with me esp that wisdom from Big

They get in a slump like baseball players when they short on they rent
Anything goin you ain't knowin how much money YOU spent
But in the real world you surrounded by these ladies and gents
Who hang around you cause you be buyin all the weed and all the chicken
Feedin everybody, smokin em out
When you was broke though they was missin
Now you ridin bout fo' deep, startin to tear up your suspension
And your baby mamma on child support, my fault, forget to mention
You don't even have a checking account wasn't thinking about no pension
190790, Yall gonna stop slandering Mamacita

I usually cut it off after laughing at the intro conversation.

Occasionally I'll play the first verse, because I've got no problems with Nas on there. I always cut it off before the hook comes in the first time.

Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-15 01:34 PM
opinion. In some ways it really doesn't fit in on Thriller, and sounds a lot like an Off the Wall leftover.

But that song is just so beautiful and perfect to me and has such nostalgic value for me that I can't support any negative words about it no matter how well thought out and reasonable they are so that's the reason for my response. Haha.

Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed Jul-22-15 12:43 PM
I mean, it does fit within the narrative....it's like watching a classic movie/tragedy, and getting to that part that makes you cringe and feel extremely uncomfortable...but without that part, the rest of the movie doesn't have as much impact. So I get it in that way, but it's just not as listenable as the rest of the album is. And I think the song may have been just as effective with the production of the second half of the song

Change Clothes - Black Album (I actually like the song but it sticks out like a sore thumb in the middle of that album so I would be fine doing away with it.)

A Film Called Pimp - Like Water for Chocolate (also not a terrible song but similar to Change Clothes, it just doesn't fit the album at all.)

Shopping Bags - The Grind Date (the only bad song De La Soul ever made, IMO.)

The Outkast ones mentioned I agree with as well.

That is one the staples of the record IMHO.

The title track and A Name I Call Myself are the only ones I'd put *firmly* ahead of it as essential to the record.

I thought there were couple others that were a little dicey but none that I would cut. Never No More just sounds kind of cheesy and like 1000 other songs recorded at the time. But it can stay.

Little Miss Strange, yes, that's the one. They were both acrid and really the only blemishes on the three records. Some of Jimi's blues stuff had some weird overlap and repetitiveness (mostly on E.L.) but at least it had chops and it gave him some direction. Baby powder, relax, feel for an hour
Sand suntan, snuggled up snug
Snowey days, fireplace, oriental rug
Thugs, lay on the couch, pull it out, perfect balance
Chemical stimuli, two tokes off the chalace
Complete silence, what surround us
Whats the finest, wrapped in cold sheets
Vanilla apple heat, loop played jazz music, coffee pillow sleeps
Breakfast in bed, early morning sun treats
Sunset level, suprise sunrises, hell
Lay on the couch, while I clip your toenails
Dreams of peaches and cream steam secret spells
Soft spoken gospel, Barry White acapell
Violin, good medicine, sound swell
Sunshine like, the right, without the hell
Taste sugar, wise storm steam stick
Slowdance drink, like nights over Egypt
Having, stabbing, calm chilling now we rolling
Company, ice cream licking now we holding
Gentle force, warm tingle of the golden
Open loose, ice cubes, kiss your belly
Alcohol, palm trees, peanut butter jelly
Almond twirl, fantastic melodies
Soon, taste these spoons
Wiping me with toon, fly wine, prize storm
Now it's high noon, rasberry spices
Cherry breath, drink from the mountain, sip the very best
Sounds of the shore, every winter is a war
Paradise life, recipe now pour
Musicness, model, gentle mental
Wash away your sorrow, fantasy Allah
Put the message in the bottle
Carry you through, the threshold, do my duty
Happy ending, go to rest Sleeping Beauty
Yo, this is that body shop shit
Love love slam
Edible underwear, champagne, bubble bath
Have your snack on that ass that
Know what I mean?
Massaging these melodies
Put that gangsta shit on the shelf
Blow winds, blow, through your hair
Sea breeze sticks and shit
Right right

Haha. That shit reads like a Bath & Body inventory list.
191052, Dog Sh*t too probably

although it's a personal favorite of mine just for the "you've been shitted on" line.
191053, Yeah...

It's not a great song although I like it and play it for sure.
191054, Take "Chinese Arithmitic" off of the "Paid in Full Album".

That shit is so out of place, and gives a tint of taint to an otherwise, flawless album.

The ONLY track that I ever skip on this timeless classic work.
191055, HELL YEAH
Posted by 13Rose, Thu Jul-23-15 10:35 AM
That song is ass.
191056, I'd take "Tearz" off of Enter the Wu-Tang

I mean I get it, but something about it just so cheesy.

Let my love slide in and never slip out
