185409, OKP is kind of astonishing to me, even in 2015.
Posted by Mongo, Tue Feb-10-15 11:43 AM
The number of smart, talented people who either join or emerge from the community is kind of amazing if you think about it.

Checking out Ikire Jones interview and still have Wale Oyejide's track with Dilla on Spotify.

Rappers.
Producers.
Singers.
Artists.
Writers.
Comedians.
Designers.

Look what Questlove did with his ant farm.

185517, hybrid of both. likeminded, culturally left of center folk gathered
Posted by poetx, Wed Feb-18-15 10:32 PM
here.

some were heavy in their formative years. i'd say magnet in the sense that a lot of ppl came w/ they own hustle / talent. but also incubator because the cross pollination effect was real. being able to post words and music and get feedback and encouragement (or hate) was instrumental to a lot of people's process.

even for the non creatives, there was a palpable sense of "i can be xyz in terms of my style/taste/playeryness/non-playeryness AND be a teacher/doctor/lawyer/businessperson/techie/entrepreneur/etc?"

like, i remember posting about my son's interest in majoring in urban planning, and found out there were a grip of planners on here, and particularly black urban planners, which are on some unicorn ish in the real world. likewise, when we speak on IT and such, very similar experiences.

we've been able to use this place to share and laugh and bond and build and bullshit in a fairly unique way.

so its a magnet AND incubator.

No we aren't writing plays that 10th graders are forced to see or releasing albums that 6 people download.

We're just paying our taxes and raising children, being productive members of society.

Which is huge.

Can't be mad though....things are moving...and the output that I was looking for...is all over the place.

The philosophical base is really Afro-Futurism...but that means a thousand things to a thousand people. At this point I can see that the output and how it shapes the moment will in turn define the philosophical base. I'm not big on talking about Afrofuturism as much as I am on living it.
185528, sheeit. you done came out w/ 2 books. (at least). and you right

i be reading all of y'alls accomplishments, royall.

WE published.

kind of a confirmation when i see others validating the talents of folk that i kick(ed) it with.

I'll see the progression of my career. It's kind of amazing. I've been on here for 15 years, and for about 13 as a poster...and to see the growth of other people has been just the best.

This place does amaze me, but at the same time...not really. The talent here has always been obvious, but just seeing the growth is great.
185533, hit it on the head here
