167675, RIP Radin
Posted by Alyse, Thu Dec-06-12 03:32 PM
Now...I don't have any details yet.

For those of you that may not know, he was a good friend of mine, he was actually my boss in Columbus Ohio.

Still waiting to hear what happened. I just got an invitation to a "Celebration of Life" in his honor, but no further info.

He was a good dude and will be missed.

I will post up info as I get it

167676, damn man, Rest In Peace.

Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Dec-06-12 04:16 PM
It seemed like he was making career moves and doing all right, maybe a little off or goofy or whatever but that just seemed like his personality from what I have read here over the years.

Last I saw him post he was going back to Ohio because his grandmother was very sick. How terrible for his folks, to lose two people so close to them from two completely generations.

That is really sad.
167723, i just searched his screename

you couldnt tell from his posts
i see that he went to israel
and really enjoyed it

im so sorry to hear and learn this
smh
167724, it breaks my heart double that he was mispacha
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Dec-06-12 04:23 PM
don't take that the wrong way, it hurts like hell to hear this news about anyone but given the strict view against killing anyone in judaism it's really crushing to learn someone made this decision.

like you said i knew he took that trip and moved to l.a., i would have guessed things were looking up for him. he always kind of struck me as lonely, i guess. we also don't know about his personal health, that always plays a factor. very sad.
167725, very sad. I've seen people shortly before

Thank you for your kind words. I've kind of cut myself off from society the past few days. Just logged on today to see what's going on in the world but in truth probably shouldn't even be posting right now. Hope you have a great weekend!

situation and there was obviously no indication he was in trouble himself. we had kind of a blow up here (think it was deleted) but immediately after he posted this news and i talked to him a bit about it. obviously he was stern and a little distraught but again he said he was close to his grandmother and it was a race against time to see her alive. so i figured that was what was weighing on him, just like you did.
167734, ye he was a stubborn SOB
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Thu Dec-06-12 04:28 PM
he was an OG member of the famed OKP survivor basketball league.

One year he didnt like a call I made as commish and was like fuck it Im leaving...Like that he left, and never came back. Thats kinda they style I remember him posting with too. I didnt agree with the moral highground he took sometimes, but in my exp-- he wasnt one to keep bitching--he'd just take his ball and leave, and I respected that.
167735, like a real basketball team/league? that hooped?
Posted by R A i n, Thu Dec-06-12 04:53 PM
167736, no, it was a fairly complicated fantasy league that did its own scoring
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Dec-06-12 04:58 PM
i did it for a year and while my team was successful (won a division, went to semi finals) it was dumb luck because i drafted well and my guys stayed healthy. those dudes are deep into it. i still dont fully understand the scoring.

fuck that just happened to a parent of a student at my school who graduated last year. Awesome woman who I really got to know and wanted to model my parenting style after. Her son is amazing. One of two kids Ive worked with in my career who im like--I want my son to turn out like this.

Anyhow nobody woulda thought or knew she was depressed except those closest to her, sucks.

167743, Damn it. Sometimes I wonder
Posted by Niq96st, Thu Dec-06-12 04:29 PM
if there's anything we can do. Like, here on OKP.

Like a safe-inbox or something. I dunno.

Granted, I understand that depression runs so much deeper than a message in an inbox.

But when things like this happen, you just wonder if something like that could have made a difference.

I don't know...Just rambling.

Peace to him and his family.

Damn. I hate hearing things like this.

167744, Is there anything you can tell us about him? What he was like?

He reached out to me in 2004 or 2005 on here thru inbox because his job was to run a marketing campaign in Columbus. He offered me the job. Had a really good time working for him.

He was fair
Friendly
Compassionate
Understanding
All about business

Can't say enough good things about him

Never ever got the impression that he was lonely, (like some people on here have said), but you never know.

Obviously I moved a few times as did he, so we kind of lost touch in real life.....

I feel so fucked up because it happened weeks ago. If not for that event, I wouldve never known
167775, Thanks for sharing this.

every okp I've ever kicked it with has been cool (even they who shall not be named), and when I chop it up with yall on here on a multitude of topics I frequently think "This is someone that I'd get along with" and I've never been wrong yet.

I never met radin, but we had inboxed on a few different occasions. Like many of you have said, this is the first okp death to really hit me.

I've donated to help people in need on here. I went (briefly) to the NYC RE:. I talk to yall more frequently than most members of my family. This community means a lot to me, I'm not gonna pretend that it's just a messageboard. Having gone to school 1,000 miles from where I live, I don't get to see my close friends very often. On a week to week basis, most of the people that I hang out with are people I met through here.

I'm rambling, but I just wanted to say this in closing: On a daily basis, this place makes my day better. Thank you all for that from the bottom of my heart.
167818, respect due...

This is too deep. Sometimes on the boards things can get really heated and people use harsh words with each other. He was one of our own. This makes me just completely stop and reevaluate how i speak to others, online and in person and what impact my words can have on them. You never really know what a person is going through. Lord knows, I've battled depression myself over the last few years and pulled through, even through the nights when i didn't want to wake up.

I didn't know this brotha well. I recognized his screen-name, but this thread has made an impact on me. This is awful news.

My condolences to his friends and loved-ones.

I didn't know him and not even sure if we had interactions on here... But damn... suicide is just never the answer... Bomb brought up how OKP is a community more than other message boards... A lot of times, I don't feel like I'm part of that community, but I do know if I ever made a post here and asked for help, I know someone here would respond... I know someone would be willing to help... I don't know if that's true of other message boards...

We all love OKP for laughs, crazy ass stories, discussion, debates, etc... I've seen two RIP posts in the past few weeks and this place really comes together to pay some form of respect... Bomb was right, this place is very much a community... And even though some, including I, don't always feel part of it, we are all part of it...

Like I said, I never knew Radin and can't remember any particular interaction between us... But his death honestly saddens me...
167839, Aw, man. That's horrible

as best as you/we can. this is a big reminder to constantly check in/provide support with a student of mine who confided in me the unaddressed trauma she's carrying within her. the day after our initial emotional talk she came back to say she had no nightmares the night before, and slept well.
167847, RIP man.

I don't know if he was telling the truth but he once posted that his cousin was Joshua Radin the zach braff movie soundtrack musician. I checked his twitter to see if he mentioned anything but nada. Don't know if they really are related, but either way, I really liked Radin. He had strong opinions and I respected the guy. This is really sad news. :(
