But anyway, according to the order of operations as I learned them, it's 288. Division is interpreted as multiplication by the inverse only of the quantity that immediately follows the symbol.

I've had this argument before with other physicists, though. To write the inverse of the quantity 2 pi, for example, I write 1 / (2 pi). Other people get lazy and write 1 / 2 pi. Those people are slobs, and deserve to be misinterpreted.
