and you put 48÷2 in parentheses you would get 288... The question is if you should convert the ÷ to / and work to get the denominator first or put 48÷2 or 48/2 in parentheses. That's where the debate lies.
EDIT: With p.e.m.d.a.s./BODMAS multiplication and division are equals so you go from left to right.
