he had a "i don't care" attitude (black man wanting punk band pre-afropunk), but within the realm of decency. as far as i could tell. he's a good guy.

I met dude and he seemed like a normal guy and didn’t do anything remotely weird.

I was highly disappointed.

It was actually a short story writing class. I remember the prof. had a guest come in and talk about how messageboards made him a better writer and he asked did we frequent any. I mentioned OKP. The Doc was gracious enough to come down from Cleveland to Canton to cool out w/ me, dae021 and his pops after the ceremonies were completed. The first thing the doc introduced me to was the people's car, the volvo station wagon which was parked outside buffalo wild wings and how he bragged on the volvo's superiority to all other motor vehicles out on the road currently. Inside Buffalo Wild Wings, the doc did not break character and all kinds of hilarity ensued...especially when all the 'Skins fans broke out into continuous chants of "Hail To the Redskins." The Doc is one of the coolest and most down to earth people I've met from the board.

When I first moved to Cali, I was staying in this house in Torrance as a boarder. The lady who owned the house was a total bitch and had a bad ass little son that I wanted to strangle the fuck out of, but I digress.

In an effort to keep to myself (and keep the peace, and keep me from killing the homeowner's kid), whenever I was in "common" or "shared" areas of the home, I wore headphones.

This one particular night, Ms. McBitch had company over. They were people from her church - whole buncha white folks and one brother. I was in the kitchen fixing myself some dinner before I retired to my personal quarters for the evening.

As I'm cooking, and listening to headphones, one of Ms. McBitch's people comes in the kitchen. It's the black guy (read: the brother).

I don't know what it is about niggas and music, but those of us who are somewhat outgoing will inquire about the music another black person is listening to in order to kick-start a conversation. So, dude asked.


Him: "Hey man, what you listening to?"

Me: "Madlib. He has this jazz project called..."

Him: "Yesterdays New Quintet right?"

Me (halfway excited somebody besides me knows who the fuck Madlib was): "Yeah! You heard of him?"

Him: "Yeah, I love Madlib!"

Me: "A friend I know from this website I hang out on sent me a copy of this Stevie Wonder project he did." (BIG shout to JNOTA who kept me tight on music mailing me CDs all the time when I was broke as shit)
"I hang out online at this place called 'Okayplayer'."

Him: "You're on Okayplayer? Me too!"

Me: "Oh okay, dope. what name you post under?"

Him: "Okaykuntree - I don't post much though."

Me: "Oh yeah...I've seen that name on there before. I post as tREBLEFREE."

Him: "YOU'RE TREBLEFREE??!!!???"

Me: ".....ummm...yeah....." (in my best "oh shit, what did I say to THIS nigga" voice).

Him: "WOW!!!"
