In 1902, the U.S. Congress passed into law the Cooper Act which made it AGAINST THE LAW for Filipinos to:
a) own property
b) vote
c) operate a business
d) live in an "American" residential neighborhood
e) hold public office
f) become naturalized American citizens
Imagine that?! It was later repealed (the exact year is not known).
