Ha. House isn't quite underground, but it's not totally mainstream either. It's important enough to the music industry that many major pop/R&B/country artists have house remixes of their songs to get some crossover appeal.

Hip-hop and house were born around the same time, and both share roots in disco. House took much of the disco aesthetic to heart, while hip-hop only borrowed disco's structure.
