personally i would love to hear

1000 deaths + another life

titles alone speak volumes about his 14 year hiatus.
they sound like old d'angelo (soul) vs new d'angelo (funkrock).
hard track vs ballad.
it's perfect.

BUT

1000 deaths will probably freak people out.
similar to devils pie @ vma2000 and sugah daddy @ bet2012.
also this track is black messiahs sdmf and folks need to discover this one themselves.

and if they have plans to release 'another life' as a single,
i would save that one for later when folks embrace d' angelo again.
then it might just be a smash.

SO

perhaps better to either
take people back - think piano medley of older tunes
or give them something new that reminds of old -
basically 'really love'.

the 2nd cut should probably be 'charade'.
makes sense to build on that "socially-conscious" thing.
shows d to be the guitar man he so desires to be
w/o needing actual chops.

2 new cuts that might play it a bit safe,
but will probably get people to check out the record
vs just talking about it the performance.
