...this wasn't an infant or an elderly person, but an active, energetic guy in late middle age who had enough money to hire the best doctors on the planet and who happened to reside in a city famous for its health care. Flu seems awfully unlikely.

It does pose a particular danger, though, to people with compromised immune systems...
