169600, Your wishlist. Mine? Ghost to do his own version of The Blueprint.
Posted by Cold Truth, Fri Jan-21-11 12:00 PM
the more i think about it the more i salivate over the thought.
it won't happen, i realize. but man would that have been an amazing album in it's own right.

ghost over "girls, girls, girls"? "song cry"? "takeover"? "you don't know"? "blueprint"? "heart of the city"? "all i need"? "izzo"?

yeah... those are classics. those are dope cuts that need not be touched. but knowing who they were for, and knowing how well ghost does in that lane (well... take over and izzo, we haven't heard much in that vein...) just makes me wishful for this.

obviously i'd still like to see a new black star, adding common to the mix as an official third member.

similar to the lone black star album, i would have loved to hear a nas, az, and salaam effort, just one and done.

naturally i'd love to hear jay elec and rza do a whole album together. i really would have loved for a jay and beans album, nobody but just on the boards.

none of this will happen, i know, but a guy can wish can't he? i can't be the only one either. and who knows, putting this out in the universe might make one or two of them happen.

way to ruin a lighthearted, fun thread right off the bat.

of course he doesn't "need" to do it. i would just like to hear it, was the point. you know, what would it have been had ghost got those tracks? but whatever; you can go back to your regularly scheduled activities of telling small children there is no santa clause and eating cheeseburgers in front of homeless people.

but i just copied and pasted years of ideas, that wasn't spontaneous

>the rod stewart ones got my attention big time, as did u2,
>akon, and cee lo.

almost every time i hear those songs, i think about what if rod--whose music i'm not really even into--sang them? i can't get it out of my head even though i love those songs as they are. akon and adam levine from m5 sound a lot alike each other and like a duck to me, so i often do imagine them singing each other's songs, especially jeezy's "soul survivor" w/ akon. with cee-lo, i just had to hear that song last year and thought of it immediately, considering cee-lo's direction in recent years. finally, with bono singing that song, it was just funny to me, and i wish i could hear it for real.

>but i just copied and pasted years of ideas, that wasn't

much of my own list was the same way, i used to think about the ghost/bp thing back in the day but the recent album post reignited that one.

akon and adam levine from m5 sound a lot alike each other
>and like a duck to me, so i often do imagine them singing each
>other's songs, especially jeezy's "soul survivor" w/ akon.

never even made that connection until you mentioned it, but the two sound very similar. levine is clearly the better singer IMO (not saying much) and both have the range of a cap gun.

>with cee-lo, i just had to hear that song last year and
>thought of it immediately, considering cee-lo's direction in
>recent years. finally, with bono singing that song, it was
>just funny to me, and i wish i could hear it for real.

well the dm song feels very dark but it's really a more thoughtful song than it appears to be on the surface. i actually think it would be fitting for bono to do one, because the two renditions would evoke completely different images and emotions despite saying teh same thing- and truly magical covers do that.

i love the song and both bands, and i really think a u2 cover would be epic. it's just the irony/poignance of bono singing the song with his jesus complex and all the criticism he receives for it is too much for me.
169616, i never really got the criticism he gets for that.

nas + premo
a GOOD rapper to do an entire album w/ JUSTICE League
a GOOD rapper to do an entire album w/ DJ Khalil
169629, The Roots

Malik B
Hub
Storch
Rahzel

that ish would be DOPE SON
169630, i'd settle for just malik back

but hub would be huge as well

storch....eh. you got poyser and kamal. let storch stay under his rock. he was only with them for organix anyway, right? why you nostalgic for scotty? he's never been that hot.

rahz - clearly legendary, but id rather have scratch for some reason. i think he flows with the band better.
169631, I'll play...first up WAR
Posted by Stadiq, Fri Jan-21-11 05:47 PM

Damn- you got me thinking. just a few off the top…

For WAR to be the solo album Monch has in him

Nas album executive produced by Qtip

Elzhi and Madlib

The Roots to make their Dark Twisted Fantasy- a big album with a ton of instrumentation and a lot of risks

A big, well-funded, focused Mos Def "Good Music" debut

BlackStar album. Every year that is on the list damn.

Jigga OR Common to do a full on concept album (challenge their writing skills more- get them focused)

J-Cole (or Jay Electronica but I have given up hope on that dude) to release a debut CD that actually matters AND is actually good

Phonte solo production from Kno, Illmind, and S1. And a 9th Wonder banger to celebrate the make up and get people talking reunion.

A new P.O.S. album

Yeah new De La Soul. Count me in on that too.

If I'm doing the Blackstar thing, may as well add that 3000 solo to the list

Liquid Swords 2 to be good…

Slug to get more guest work- dude is one hellofan underrated song writer

Pete Rock to get more "Joy" type work. Damn.

Exile to get more work. A lot more work.

I know it’s the lesson, but an untouched (not remixed) collection of unreleased Pac would make for a good 2011
169632, For me.....
Posted by phemom, Fri Jan-21-11 06:05 PM
Just Blaze to make a compilation album....Just beats and a ton of fucking rappers

Flying Lotus to work with more vocalists...don't care much who.

The Roots to make an album full of uptempo joints that'll melt your face off...

Another Cam'Ron song produced by Kanye West...

Mos Def to put the actual promo & effort into his projects...

The CRS album made and released by the end of the years.

Amerie making a full-on funk/go-go album.
169633, This is good thread. I'll be back to contribute.

169635, An Eminem album where he just relaxes on the mic and doesn't pick beats
Posted by Tiger Woods, Fri Jan-21-11 09:03 PM
He's probably the most talented rapper alive, but he can't write a great song to save his life. There's always some gay ass angle-he's a psycho, he's white trash, he's being silly, he's a recovering addict, he's sick of being famous, he's annoyed by boy bands-man just shut up and rap about how good you are like Jay-Z and Black Thought do. There's a place for reflection but it's always super defensive and it's on damn near every song. For a guy who's that famous he seems bizarrely out of touch with current events and contemporary pop music.

And he just cannot pick beats that don't sound generic and deliberately aimed for arenas. I thought nearly every beat on Recovery sounded the same, so imagine my surprise at finding out there were like 7 different producers on it.

I'd love to hear him over Justice League or Mannie Fresh where he isn't telling them what he wants, they're instead giving him something that's almost finished and just needs lyrics.
169636, can't write a song to save his life? au contraire...
Posted by Cold Truth, Sat Jan-22-11 05:19 PM
>He's probably the most talented rapper alive, but he can't
>write a great song to save his life.

in fact, SSLP was full of VERY well written songs. it's one reason it's a classic in my book- i can't think of too many albums with THAT many songs that do such a great job of staying dead on topic (we're talking bullseye's here) from start to finish, with a variety of topics at that. it's spotty after that, but he shows it in quite a few songs (white america comes to mind) since then.

>There's always some gay
>ass angle-he's a psycho, he's white trash, he's being silly,
>he's a recovering addict, he's sick of being famous, he's
>annoyed by boy bands-man just shut up and rap about how good
>you are like Jay-Z and Black Thought do.

erm... i can't ride with this at all man. you're basically trashing him for being creative. the psycho thing worked really well on a few cuts (rehab). his silly songs tend to be pretty good for the most part, and are excellent for what they are. i'm mystified at the hate they get actually, because he tends to be pretty on point most of the time. the anti-boy band thing IS irritating though because he's just a bully with an easy target, which is my biggest beef with em by far. he's never gone at anyone with true skills.

>reflection but it's always super defensive and it's on damn
>near every song.

i can ride with this. this is highly annoying.

>For a guy who's that famous he seems
>bizarrely out of touch with current events and contemporary
>pop music.

i don't understand this, could you expound?

>And he just cannot pick beats that don't sound generic

yeah.... kind of a downer. he's had a few nice ones but by and large his beat selection is one of the worst.

>deliberately aimed for arenas.

this wouldn't bother me so much (i love the 'arena' sound overall) if there weren't so many corny, cheesy, lazy duds.

I thought nearly every beat on
>Recovery sounded the same, so imagine my surprise at finding
>out there were like 7 different producers on it.

oh yeah... good lord was that bothersome.

>I'd love to hear him over Justice League or Mannie Fresh where
>he isn't telling them what he wants, they're instead giving
>him something that's almost finished and just needs lyrics.

i wanna hear him on some alchemist personally, who's usually dark sound- especially as it has evolved ofer the years- is seemingly taylor made for much of em's subject matter.

a disagree with a few pieces of this, but i agree wholeheartedly with the overall sentiment.

Posted by spew120, Fri Jan-21-11 09:28 PM
1. Blu & Kan Kick :::: Kan Kick needs some legit MCs over his beats. Blu needs some down-to-earth boom-bap. I think it's a great match.

2. Q-Tip & Consequence (prod. Dilla) :::: For a while, it seems like this is the group that Tip WANTED Tribe to become. He was starting to phase out Phife and using Dilla as a crutch.

3. Sean Price, A.G. & Roc Marciano (prod. Ray West) :::: The dynamics of Roc & P on the Snow Remix was undeniable. Ray West's influence on Marciano's production is also undeniable.

4. Lord Finesse Solo :::: I don't care if people think his punchlines are corny. It's been over a decade since Finesse released The Awakening. He embodies hip-hop.

5. Jay Electronica (prod. Large Professor leftovers) :::: Classic album right there.

6. MC Spank Rock (concept album, solo) :::: If Spank dropped the persona, and stuck to straight spittin over some boom bap, he would have potential.

7. Raekwon (spoken word) :::: Okay, this one is weird. I'd like Raekwon to gather written stories from the homeless, abused, elderly, depressed, poor, etc., and simply read them.

8. Strange Fruit Project / Little Brother (prod. S1) :::: LB & SFP should have been collabing for half a decade now. Unfortunately only one song has resulted.

9. Fashawn & Blu :::: They killed it on Samsonite Man

10. NEW QUAS

169641, The Madlib multiple persona musical orgy album
Posted by Ishwip, Sat Jan-22-11 02:35 AM
I've said this many times before, but I'd love a Madlib album where all of his characters and lanes come together for a explosion of musical creativity. Where straight hip-hop beats fold into a YNQ breakdown with Lord Quas and friends rapping and then end with a broken-beat interlude and then go into the next track.

The key for me would be no fade-outs or tracks being separate** from each other. Everything would lead into the next beat or song.

**I don't mean that it's just one long track, but just that if you were listening to the album front to back there wouldn't be any gaps in the music.

Mine would be if in 95/96 Tip added Busta to Tribe instead of Consequence.
169658, I really, really, really want a funk album by the Neptunes

Kinda funk, kinda uptempo soul - I think they'd nail it. Don't really care who the vocalist is - Pharrell would be a good choice for me - but that's what I'd love. I think they'd nail it as well.

I guess another Neptunes one - I'd like to see them maybe start a new group. I think NERD has run its course a little bit so would like to see them hook up with a couple of other musicians or singers and try something a little different.
