163968, The Most SHAMELESS copying of an artist ever?
Posted by Adwhizz, Thu Jun-14-12 07:14 PM
I know people say Ja Rule/ DMX both bit 2Pac, but those two at least brought their own talent to the table and did something kinda different

But THIS Fool takes the Cake

Posted by entitee, Tue Jul-24-12 04:02 PM
Hi-C was in DJ Quik's crew. That's like West Coast classic material to me. He was always the funnier guy out of them all. He made the MC Gusto songs for CB4 (Straight Outta Locash). He pops up now and then on a feature. I think his last big gig was as the MC in Malibu's Most Wanted.

He's not a copy of Eazy-E, he's just from that era and he's a better rapper.

This might be the biggest fail of them all. They tried to be like No Doubt and failed and couldn't even take a shot with an original song. Ouch.

He has a very short part on the song but it's clear as day.
It's little less obvious on "Wicked" because Cube flipped the style so that he's on beat the whole time.

but isn't Bootsy's addlips sound like Jimi Hendrix?
164033, Definitely...
Posted by Jakob Hellberg, Sat Jun-16-12 03:54 PM
The difference is that for Hendrix, those were ad-libs and not more whereas Bootsy used them as a foundation for his entire vocal-style and generally left the more conventional vocal-stylings to Gary Cooper and Robert Johnson. Basically, Bootsy's vocal-style is an example of someone taking a fragment/part of someone else's style and then make it his own foundation. I don't think that really applies to the George Duke track...

164038, What about Rick James ''Bustin' out''?
Posted by Jakob Hellberg, Fri Jun-15-12 06:46 PM
I love the song but it always sounded Bootsy as fuck to me, same with the intro to the "Come and get it"-album even if there are some keyboard chords there that sounds different from P-funk. I never felt Rick James ripped off P-funk as much as George Clinton supposedly seemed to think he did but "Bustin' out" is one song where a case can be made...
164039, i agree.
Posted by SoWhat, Sat Jun-16-12 07:42 AM
164040, on pfunk album covers they called out george duke AND rick james.
Posted by poetx, Fri Jul-20-12 12:32 PM
all the overton lloyd comics...

they referred to rick james band as 'stone shiddibland'. young me used to crack up at that. and they had similar disses for george duke.

matter of fact, i think that's where the whole concept of 'faking the funk' was coined.

164041, Yeah, I know...
Posted by Jakob Hellberg, Sat Jul-21-12 11:49 AM
...I've seen those covers and if you read the inner-sleeve (? I'm referring to the sleeve holding the vinyl, don't know the english term) on Rick's "Fire it up"-album, he pretty much asks for it by "inventing" a funk-language that's so derivative of P-funk, it's not even funny. Still, I don't hear it *that* much musically. Then again, Norman Whitfield was supposedly making tapes of Funkadelic concerts in the 60's in order to find new ideas so George may be right-everyone was ripping him off. Still, I think a case could be made of the opposite being true as well-Parliament seemed to take ideas (or at least "general" concepts) from Ohio Players and EWF and other bands like that when George wanted to go more commercial and less psychedelic with the Casablanca-albums and many of Funkadelic's early albums sound partially derivative of Sly and Jimi IMO. Whatever, it doesn't matter; dude was a genius but I just don't hear *that* much P-funk in Rick or other acts from that era-I just think P-funk were so idiosyncratic that it's just pointless to say people were ripping them off because it came out so different (watered down? I don't want to go there!)...

George Duke definitely bit a bit too much though
164042, yeah, that was a BLATANT one. down to the 'bubba' (instead of
Posted by poetx, Fri Jul-20-12 12:29 PM
baby-bubba) in the ad-libs an shit.

even though i loved the song, i remember thinking, damn, they copying bootsy (the word 'bite' wasn't out, yet).

This is pretty doggone shameless. That Logic up above was out of bounds with both feet too.

This is some straight up Lovely One Redux. He deserves a stomp-out fo sho. He actually deserves a stern look even right now.

Side-eyes...I'm not anywhere near as upset as I should be with a couple of these Alfonzo songs though. Alfonzo going in on Dirty Low Down...I'm not too mad.

WAIT...Your Booty Makes Me Moody!? I'll be damned.

how do you explain to funkeebeets0312 that you were an unsuccessful Michael Jackson clone?

164083, Vesta Got That Extra Nasal Element To Her Singing,,,
Posted by Harlepolis, Mon Jun-18-12 06:17 PM
I mean, Chaka can get a bit nasal sometimes, but with Vesta it was more intentional and she over did it, which was a dead giveaway.

Agreed though, to the untrained ears, she might fool somebody into thinking she was Chaka.

I remember when a local radio DJ asked her to impersonate her fave singer, she did Chaka's add-lips from "Through The Fire"(which was revived @ the time due to Kanye) it was the most hilarious thing I ever heard, she then said "If I didn't show up to the concern tomorrow due to a broken leg, you know who did it" lol I miss her already.

Imagine the madness that would've been produced.

On February 11, 2011, Paul McCartney whilst commenting on the influence of the Beatles and black music gave this assessment as part of a BBC documentary titled The Beatles and Black Music, produced by Vivienne Perry and Ele Beattie.
“It was really cool when hip-hop started, you would hear references in lyrics, you always felt honored. It’s exactly what we did in the beginning – introducing black soul music to a mass white audience. It’s come full circle. It’s, well, cool. When you hear a riff similar to your own, your first feeling is ‘rip-off.’ After you’ve got over it you think, “Look at that, someone’s noticed that riff.’”

Chico DeBarge. Just happened to listen to "Long Time No See" and forgot how much he jacked D'Angelo on that. Odd seeing how Kedar already had D'Angelo. Just listen to all the organ playing on that disc. Really wasn't hearing organ like that on RnB/Soul until Brown Sugar at that point in the 90s.

SHINE (BIGGIE)
JERMAINE DUPRI AND "ALL" HIS MAIN CREATIONS (DA BRAT, KRISS KROSS)
FRANK MCCOMB (DONNY HATHaWAY & STEVIE WONDER).
hi-five (NEW EDITION)

Shine was basically a situation were Diddy couldn't fully accept the fact that Biggie was gone and he tried to keep his spirit and vibe alive thru that guy (not to mention the consistent money flow Biggie was bringing in to Bad Boy during it's height). I call it "pop karma" though cause look at Shine's ass now..

..permanently locked out the country while lookin' like Big Gipp's autistic half brother with that "Jew Do" he's been rockin' as of late.

Laughinathisass

At one point in time, Jermaine Dupri, Kriss Kross, and Da Brat ALL sounded like Snoop (not that any of them are even worth mentioning on "Okayhater.com").

Frank McComb is dope and I'm a fan, but he takes his Donny Hathaway/Stevie Wonder influence to a ridiculous extreme.

"hi-five" were so wack that I spelled their name in lower case letters. Look at the Kissing Game video and you'll see them biting most of NE moves. The lead singer was basically Ralph and the dark skinned nigga was Johnny. The rest of them dudes were some hood niggas that grew up with the lead singer who were only brought on to keep them off the streets (and of course to try and be the "new" New Edition). And look at what happened to them.

Btw, there's too many more to name. R. Kelly though gets an honorable mention 'cause Kellz done gave that poor guy "Mr. Hall" a few ulcers and raised his blood pressure up tenfold over the years for jackin' that his shit LOL
