There isn't much of a "tune" there, so Beyonce (or her producers) have to create a vocal melody out of seemingly nothing. Try crafting a great melody to go over some half-assed dissonance.

If you want to talk about the lyrics, well it's just a carbon copy of ideas from other songs that were more successful. The continued theme of female empowerment. "Independent Woman", "Survivor" off the top of my head. How many times can she go there without it seeming gimmicky to the casual listener?

You know what would have made the song more fun, if only for me and others of a similar bent, is if the "Pon De Floor" thing had been replaced by the sounds at the beginning of Devo's "Jocko Homo" video. Listen to what I mean, the first 25 seconds...
