but prince was at about van hunt level in terms of fame when he first came out. he was thought of as incredibly talented, but people were still waiting for him to really justify all the boy wonder hype. gaga isnt quite as distinct, and has been more top 10 primed from the start, but prince wasnt really 'there' yet in terms of really defining his sound or his identity yet at the start either. he still drew a lot on what else was out there. he wasnt quite leading the way yet.
