127510, Beefs that you didn't understand 100%
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:04 PM
What beefs have happened in Rap that you may have heard the disses for, but never really understood what the true cause was? What side stories have you heard about that may or may not be true, regarding the people involved?

My boy in Florida was talking about the Gucci Mane and Jeezy beef, and I never really paid attention to it, and still won't...but the fact that somebody from Jeezy's camp got killed means it is more serious than "I can out rap you." With Game and 50, I know more about that beef than anything else, but most people just know what was said on TV and the diss songs.

127511, Tribe and Lupe...what really went down?
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:04 PM
I don't think it was major at all...but what was really said in it?
127512, lupe never heard midnight marauder, &didn't plan to
Posted by Baron_Davis, Tue Jun-16-09 03:08 PM
tribe fans took offense
he said he rather listen to some bun b and other gangster/reality style rap, than tribe
then he flubbed some lines on a tribe tribute
nerds went berserk
127513, edit: what baron_davis said.
Posted by movinonyoleftAHHHH, Tue Jun-16-09 03:08 PM
it was mostly just that lupe didn't ever listen to ATCQ so he fucked up some lyrics in a tribute performance to ATCQ... i don't think/know if any sort of conflict materialized though.
127514, what they said ^^ and...
Posted by dustin, Tue Jun-16-09 06:17 PM
lupe was on hiphop honors performing some part of a tribe song (phife's verse on electric relaxation, i think) and he fucked up part of a line. before that he had stated on the boards that he never heard midnight marauders and never intended to. then after the hiphop honors thing he said he only performed because q-tip begged him to...a claim which q-tip would deny.

127515, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:06 PM
I had no idea that they even had beef before coming on here....how the hell did that start?
127516, similar background, &both were claimin' to be the man

127517, not sure how it started, but...

ra arguably took some subtle shots at kane...

follow the leader: "Word to daddy, indeed!"
hypnotic: "and I don't sniff no kane and get raw..."
127518, nobody from jeezy's camp died
Posted by Baron_Davis, Tue Jun-16-09 03:06 PM
jeezy put out a chain snatch hit on gucci mane
some dudes attempted to collect, and one got popped
they had no affiliation with jeezy
127519, 4 real? Hmm...dude on FB told me one of the CTE dudes was killed
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:08 PM
He said somethin about Gucci had killed somebody who was part of CTE...I hadn't heard that before, so I had no idea if that was really the case.
127520, nah he wasnt from CTE
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Tue Jun-16-09 03:28 PM
it was prolly some random joe

Jeezey said it on one of those hood dvd i got guns joints
127521, he wasn't on cte but he had to do with jeezy
Posted by Apollo Kid, Tue Jun-16-09 06:29 PM
he was from the same set as jeezy, duncan block crips somewhere in GA

127523, Too Short and Yukmouth....and Master P and Yukmouth
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:07 PM
I have heard about both of these, but don't know what really went down. I just found it strange that "I got five on it" remix didn't have Short on it...that song woulda been even more amazing if it had EVERY Bay hitter on there.

I heard the P and Yuk thing was about P taking "Ice cream man" from Yuk, but I'm sure it's more to it.
127524, P was a biter. too short was a case of young oakland vs
Posted by Baron_Davis, Tue Jun-16-09 03:09 PM
established oakland
127525, Damm, so did Yuk really "run" Too Short out of town?
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:10 PM
It seems like Yuk was more on a thug tip, and Short was old back then LOL seein that he "retired" before "5 on it" even dropped...so I see him as the type to have hella thug connects, but not the type to really be deep on that side.
127526, i don't know...i know he moved to atlanta and got money
Posted by Baron_Davis, Tue Jun-16-09 03:13 PM
so he prolly just did like every body in the 90s and explored different regions to expand his fan base
127527, nah, if anything it was close to being the other way around
Posted by dba_BAD, Tue Jun-16-09 05:18 PM
$hort left behind some larger drama poppin off in the town
127528, The Short/Luniz stuff is a little more complicated
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Jun-16-09 03:23 PM
It's not really clear what happened between the two. I possibly involved a battle between Luniz and Bad-N-Fluenz, Chris "C&H" Hicks (once involed with Short, then Dru Down) either being owed money or owing money (depending on who you ask), cars possibly being shot at and shot up. No one really talks about it anymore. As far as Too Short getting "run" out of town, no one talks about that either, beyond the fac tthat yes, he moved to Atlanta, and he stayed paid.
127529, baysically ^^
Posted by Amritsar, Tue Jun-16-09 04:22 PM
>established oakland
127530, P was a transplant who got paid off a slip and fall
Posted by dba_BAD, Tue Jun-16-09 03:29 PM
all of a sudden talkin bout he the ice cream man. yuk was appropriately salty

The Luniz/$hort beef had to do w C&H being a lame, luniz being young, and everybody trynna eat of $hort's fame basically. It was only peripherally related to his move, which was more about things going on in Oakland and $hort's larger circle at the time.
127531, Yuk and nem didnt take kindly to P biting their swag
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Tue Jun-16-09 03:29 PM
I never knew Yuk and $hort had problems
although I did find it odd
they never really were on each others records like that
especially considering The Luniz were from the bay

127534, Damn I never heard about that
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:10 PM
127535, no beef, pimp c just speakin his mind regardless to whom or
Posted by Baron_Davis, Tue Jun-16-09 03:13 PM
what. he just questioned jeezy's street credentials and knowledge
127536, pimp c said niggas was lying about weight prices 17.5
Posted by HotepSuns365, Tue Jun-16-09 03:17 PM
in fact pimp c went on one of his most realest rants in that interview....talking about how he loves the south, but niggas was only highlighting one part of the game...the exaggerated glorious version, and not giving the ups,and downs..the trials, and tribulations...and a host of other shit...he of course said some stupid shit too in that interview...but you got the best, and the worst with pimp c....

but yeah everybody knows jeezy was calling himself mr. 17.5...and pimp c basically said niggas saying that was lying...
127537, This pimp dude I record with was appalled at the 17.5 thingy

I assume they're meaning paying $17,500 for whatever amount. Lol, apparently Jeezy has corrected his pricing and is now paying $23,000 for an amount.

Bun talks about it some interview how he really respected jeezy for that casue they relationship sorta went weird after pimp said that but jeezy was showin that its all cool
127545, How do you "forgive" a dude for calling you out on a lie?

Jeezy made it seem like he was taking the high road and I think that's a little insulting. That may be what Illegal is trying to say also, but I can't speak for him.

Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Jun-16-09 03:15 PM
One of the few L.A. related ones I have no idea about...I think I've heard different reasons, maybe even related to the whole censoring deal, but I don't know. I just found it wild that the other members in 2 Live Crew were from L.A. suburbs...I just learned that.
127548, luke talked shit about nwa. dre just got around to dissin' him
Posted by Baron_Davis, Tue Jun-16-09 03:19 PM
or nwa talked shit about luke first, and luke dissed him, then dre dropped the chronic. either way, they fought or got close to fightin' at jack the rapper in atlanta in 92
127549, That beef always bothered me
Posted by MANHOODLUM, Tue Jun-16-09 04:52 PM
Considering Luke and Ruthless were both independent labels in "underdog" coast/markets...both massively successful.

The Luke "G-Thang" spoof video (Cowards of Compton) was funny as shit, tho. That dude's snoopisms were classic.
127550, I just watched the cowards in Compton video again
Posted by Adwhizz, Tue Jun-16-09 05:36 PM
it's way funnier now that I know more about Snoop/Dre and Luke

I remember last year on Foxxhole radio Snoop was talking about his peewee football team played Luke's team and Luke allegedy tried to cheat by bringing older kids.

Hilarious to think this beef is still going and matured along with both rappers
127551, LMAO that shit's funny

127554, Probably had to do with Wyclef's affiliation with Haitian Jack
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Jun-16-09 03:32 PM
He was the co-defendant in 'Pac's rape trail, who copped a plea to a lesser charge. 'Pac maintained that Jack was a police informant and possibly set him up when he got shot in November of 1994.
127555, Damm I remember that too

Meaning that she thought she wasn't getting of it for her contributions to the group.

Throw in rumors that Wyclef had been cheating on his wife with Lauryn, and then that subsequently souring, it all went downhill.
127560, I thought that sprang from the two touring together
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Jun-16-09 03:57 PM
With The Roots hinting that Fugees were biting the concept for their set, while implying that it was The Roots stealing from them (most notably in an issue of Vibe). I believe it also came from the general idea that the Fugees constantly treated them like they were step-children and not on their level.
127561, Who knows exactly why Pras dissed Jeru on "Zealots". I always figured
Posted by micMajestic, Tue Jun-16-09 04:02 PM
that Jeru may have clowned Pras somehow in real life when the Fugees were starting out. Jeru was supposedly a bit of a jerk, and the prospect of Praswellington getting dissed/chumped/straight ignored by established rappers (prior to "The Score" blowing up) is pretty damn high.
At the very least I'm sure that Pras knows what weak dap feels like.

Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Tue Jun-16-09 03:58 PM

Posted by micMajestic, Tue Jun-16-09 04:45 PM
And Sadat & Jamar were definitely taking shots at Puba in little freestyles at first. So there was animosity at one point in time but again I think it was mainly between Puba & Jamar.
If I remember correctly that had already "broken up" before the "All for One" video (ironically). If you take a look at the video, you can see the separation was there already.

127591, Hmmm, I always thought that was kinda open
Posted by MANHOODLUM, Tue Jun-16-09 05:13 PM
It was almost like you saw the writing on the wall w/ One for All.

The crew blew up, but Puba became a superstar, and he had a number of solo cuts.

Their respective directions were black'n white...with Puba taking an easy-going tone for his solos, almost coasting on his status, and Brand Nubians taking a more serious tone, with more to prove.

From that, you could kinda feel Sadat and Jamar feeling like "Man, fuck you", but not on some full fledged beef. Even as a youngin, I could smell the resentment, but Brand Nubians really stepped up. I'm sure they weren't calling eachother lol

Still, both careers benefited, and they were true friends, so grudges died down. I knew they'd drift back together gradually in the mid 90's.
127592, after All For One, Puba REALLY started feeling himself...

Puba was old school to the bone. He was a party DJ even when he was young. He was making noise with Masters of Ceremonies in the mid 80's (I remember rocking "Sexy" when I was a shorty, years before I even knew it was Puba), dropped an underrated album with them, then dropped an underrated classic with Brand Nubian a few years later.

After years of honing his skills, people started riding his jock. He ran with it.

Again, I don't agree, but I understand. Sadat and Jamar were basically hit w/ stardom out of their demo phase.

Puba cashed in.

He may have been their brother, but he was most def their big brother.

...and Dudley didn't like that. He told me in an interview awhile ago something about a particular person (can't recall the name) there kept acting asshole-ish to them and they got tired of it. They also felt that Stonesthrow as a label really paid them no mind and they could do better on their own.

Oh,ok cuz on that "Shine On" joint he said some stuff about money & "wiggers" so I didn't know if that was Egon or PBW. But he seems to be still cool with 'Lib and them.

plus he got an army of lawyers out there on google, which is also suspect to me for a label like that, but....whatever...

It always struck me as 2 groups of gangsters in the same industry, plus tensions were high due to the Ruthless/Cube beef...that ATL might have been SEMI linked to on a technicality.

People accused Cube of that type of thing all the same. Cypress Hill fell out with him over it; him and Volume 10 beefed over it.

Eiht never really recovered...it was a case where he didn't make a lot of dope music after, but even politically...Quik ran with 92.3 tough, and was even cool with Power 106, so you would NEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER hear anything from MC Eiht on radio. the first time The Doc heard "Fuck Compton", he thought dude was really buggin'. Back then, The Doc felt like dissin' NWA was a death wish... dissin' the entire CITY of Compton? You really have to hate your life.

The song was funny as shit, but The Doc's laughs were like... "man, this guy doesn't care about his life".

Anyway, The Doc remembers why Tim Dog was so mad as to make that song. His beef wasn't with NWA, it was w/record labels that felt he had to make his image more "gangsta" in that L.A. way to sell records. They wanted him to wear a Jheri Curl and everything. Tim was like "Fuck that", and that turned into "Fuck Compton".

Well, my Tim Dog tape.

I was with this girl for most of my teenage years, and she was a "Christian" (she was actually a psycho who went to church every Sunday).

She knew I was infatuated with hip-hop, but it was something she wasn't interested in. Until one day, she asked to borrow a tape to check out. I told her to grab one and didn't pay no mind.

She grabbed "Pennicillin on Wax" (this is when it first dropped, and I was JOCKING the production). She took it home, and listened to "Secret Fantasy" (the original "Fuck an R&B Bitch"...where Timothy actually pee's on En Vogue).

Needless to say, he "negative stereotype" of hip-hop was not only validated, but increased by 75% lol

She left the tape in my mailbox (she lived 2 blocks away). We had an arguement about it even, and she was like "blah blah! How can you listen to that?? Blah!".

In a bold move, I told her I would "prove my love to" her, and I replaced the Tim Dog tape with the Hi-Five tape she had given me lol

I webt to her house, and crushed the tape under my feet...stomping it. Man, she was LOVING that shit. I kicked the remains in the sewer like 4 ft away from me...like a hocket puck, peeeewwwwwww.

Since the plastic case and the tape were all that were smashed, I just got another tape case to put the insert and tape in at home.

It was an Oceans 11 move.

Treach took offense to a line Pos kicked on the intro to the "Stakes Is High" album. Something about "So stick to your Naughty By Nature and your Kane." IT was actually supposed to be part of a larger verse where Pos mentioned the names of lots of rappers, but that was the only part that got left in.
