Jay-Z positioned himself with Chris Martin -- REGARDLESS of the end result -- in order to appeal to the (white) music listener who likes Chris Martin and may be intrigued to find out how one of the guys with Coldplay meshes with a rapper... it's a STRATEGIC alliance of music brand names, not a MUSICAL/ARTISTIC one...
