96809, how are they going to actually improve the Halo multiplayer though?
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 09:08 AM
from what i've read, it's still max. 16 players
so the arenas will be the same size
just crisper graphics and some new weapons/vehicles/gametypes?
i've not read anything about destructable environments or anything else that will change gameplay much

isn't there a risk that Huxley is going to shit on Halo 3 massively?
96810, This is pretty much it I bet.

>just crisper graphics and some new
>weapons/vehicles/gametypes?

If they want to do something revolutionary. It'll probably be a new game.
96811, Balance issues, lag issues, better levels...

There's a lot they can do from a technical standpoint.

96824, is there though?
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 10:43 AM
seems like it's already pretty balanced. plus, people like a little imbalance so they can exploit it

the main problem with halo 2 is the cheating/standbying
are they going be able to actually fix that?
96820, I see them nerfing the effects of some weapons, addition of others
Posted by ansomble, Wed Feb-28-07 10:37 AM
to spice things up. Really tho, the real focus is on the story which kind of fell off for more than a few people from Halo 2. They are trying to bring this thing home with fireworks.
96823, yeah but it takes like 3 days to finish the solo compaign
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 10:41 AM
after that it's the multiplayer that keeps the game at the forefront
i suppose if they have cooperative online that will be a big addition though

its just, i'm playing Halo 2, and thinking, this would not really be improved at all just by making the graphics nicer
96821, it prolly will be wacker then Halo 2
Posted by Galatasaray, Wed Feb-28-07 10:39 AM
Halo >>>>>> Halo 2 >>>>>>>>> Halo 3
96833, You got it wrong. Halo 2>> Halo because of the multiplayer
Posted by Lach, Wed Feb-28-07 11:35 AM
Halo 2 had by far the best multiplayer of any console shooter ever. Period.
96825, this assumes that huxley will actually be finished and released
Posted by bearfield, Wed Feb-28-07 10:52 AM
>isn't there a risk that Huxley is going to shit on Halo 3
>massively?

i swear i've been hearing about this game for 3 years and all i've seen is one presentation video and a couple of screen shots. it's approaching duke nukem 3d status :(
96828, hmm. still 3 years for a project of that scope isn't so long
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 11:09 AM
it's not Daikatana we're talking about
it's something that's never really been done before
and also the wait could be related to timing... making sure the average PC and the average internet connection will have a chance of handling it. plus the 360's only been out a year
96838, true. i guess i'm just impatient like that
Posted by bearfield, Wed Feb-28-07 11:53 AM
96832, ? you haven't seen the gameplay videos?
Posted by Rjcc, Wed Feb-28-07 11:27 AM

96837, ? there are gameplay videos?
Posted by bearfield, Wed Feb-28-07 11:52 AM
the only video i've seen is the one where one of the devs shows one of the hubs, and that was about a year and a half ago

actually now that i think on it i might have seen a really short gameplay video but i might be confusing that with a trailer that happened to have some gameplay in it
96859, saying there's a risk huxley will shit on halo 3 is asinine
Posted by Rjcc, Wed Feb-28-07 03:11 PM
and i'm a huxley fan

of course there's a "risk" that "new game" will blow out "old game/style of play"

but comparing something that actually has delivered a high level of play (halo) to a total newcomer and unknown that hasn't shipped is retarded.

even if it's just tweaked, with better graphics and some great maps, that still puts halo 3 on top of the shooter pile

huxley's showing at the last E3 was not very well received, with people saying it just looked like an unreal tournament clone. I wouldn't say it's going to knock halo off the shelf just yet.

96870, halo 2 online offered a big step up for many people
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 04:17 PM
obviously there were a few fps games on the market before it, but on the even playing field of 16 player games with voice chat, halo 2 was the best. it was also the first one i got to play so the whole set up was a dream

but with Huxley, it wont be an even playing field
it will be 16 players with voice chat
vs
massive 100 player battles in persistant worlds on servers with rpg style character upgrades and interaction and quests

just adding a gun or two and tweaking the gameplay isn't going to impress me much
96873, except you're comapring something you've played
Posted by Rjcc, Wed Feb-28-07 04:24 PM
to something you think sounds good in theory

huxley isn't the first game that is an mmo shooter.
it's been done before, and it's sucked.

there is no guarantee whatsover that huxley is going to be a 100 person shooter, that it will be fun, or that it will in any way compete with halo

96878, at least it's aiming to be bigger and better
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 04:52 PM
before Halo 3 was officially announced, there were rumours about Bungie going for persistant worlds and that sort of thing too
turns out they think some new maps and tweaks will be enough
not very 'next gen'
96879, so basically you're criticizing them for not making a different game
Posted by Rjcc, Wed Feb-28-07 04:53 PM
k

don't play it then.

96882, believe me, if Huxley gets good reviews, then i'm finished w/ Halo
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 05:08 PM
i can do without the modding, standbying, quitting that goes on in halo 2.
nevermind that their gameplay isn't THAT good
it's good because it has the matchmaking system and the vehicles, also the radio/proximity chat is brilliantly implemented
but i think it would be foolish of them to think they've got the market on lock because of their ability to design maps and balance gunfights
50% of the big team battle gametypes are drudgery

besides, why make the same game again? we've got halo 2 already. that's my complaint.
96884, why make a wildly different game
Posted by Rjcc, Wed Feb-28-07 05:30 PM
shooters with high player counts, and mmo features have been done, and they've sucked. why should they do something that hasn't been proven to be a workable concept?

I want a good game, regardless of what they've done before.

96886, i always assumed the 16 player limit was purely for technical reasons
Posted by The Damaja, Wed Feb-28-07 05:45 PM
to prevent lag or slowdown
i mean i almost never play the non big-team-battle games on halo 2. why play with 8 people when you can get 16

i don't have a 360, but from what i've heard perfect dark zero multiplayer, and resistance fall of man mp went down pretty well

i;m not mad that they're not making an MMO FPS, although i wouldn't be surprised if Huxley sons it, but at least increase the player count. 16 isn't the optimal number, more players is more fun, up to a point anyway

why release just a refined halo 2. it's dissappointing
96861, this why they are releasing the demo now.
Posted by HighVoltage, Wed Feb-28-07 03:18 PM
so they can get feedback and improve it.
96880, MS has given them so much time on this game
Posted by Lach, Wed Feb-28-07 05:00 PM
that it has to be a beast. Should be a beast. I mean, even if they made it play like Halo 2 but with super graphics, it would be killer.
96968, blahblahblahblahblah

You stay shitting on Bungie. If you're disappointed in the franchise stop playing Halo, and furthermore, stop talking about it. It just exposes what type of gamer you are that I STILL haven't gotten the opportunity to blast you, yet you still talk online this, online that, online sold crack.
