95578, ~DESIGNING A WEB PAGE~
Posted by Niq96st, Sun Feb-18-07 10:12 PM
Basically, I want to create one

But I know nada, zip, NOTHING about web design. NOTHING.

So, if anyone could give me a step-by-step/dummy's guide/layman's explanation, it would be soooo helpful.

This is probably too big (or too stupid) a request and will prolly go wood...

but please consider...

At least tell me what software I'd need to create a fly web page for my magazine. Or things I should consider. Or possibly the name of any designers you know.

Thanks, guys!

Its not that easy. Believe me. I'm a pro web designer and I'll let you know there are a lot of details in it. In addition to that, who is hosting it? What about SEO work to get in Google and Yahoo? Just email me and we can talk further.

Pro web designer? I really hope that the links in your sig are for old sites. If that is the quality of the work you produce, I would say you were a pro web designer from 1995.

On the real, get a some sort of XHTML book, a CSS book and dreamweaver. Then sign up with a hosting company like goDaddy and get to work. Obviously this does not sound like some huge corporate website.

okayplayer.com hasn't changed AT ALL since it was created in 1998.

Style, format, look, and layout. All of it.

Trust me.

With websites, some things change with the times... other things are a lil more timeless... and other things need face-lifts like you wouldn't believe!

It's a matter of taste, style, and well... fuck it, you get the point. Haha That "Pro web designer in 1995" line did have me DYING though. ouch, son... ouch! lol

Play nice. It's a crazy world!

agreed, but there are ways of making sites much easier to maintain. by using css to separate the style from the content, no more sitewide search and replaces.

by using css and semantic html, your site can be accessible to everyone, including mobile devices.

just because anybody can make a website, doesnt mean they should. there is a lot of crap on the web.

if you are going to make your own website, please please please use the code view. do not by any means use a WYSIWYG editor, it just produces scary code.

95588, I'm nowhere near a pro web designer
Posted by acedro, Mon Feb-19-07 12:33 AM
but I can tell you it's not that easy.

However if you have photoshop and or imageready you can make a site with a little work.

You basically just design the site, split it into grids, optimize those grids and save the page as html.

that's basically what I did for my site.

I'm sorry man, but that was funny as hell! lol

Web Design isn't that hard, well I do have problems with coding sometimes.

I've learned most of what I know from books, couple of classes and friends.

Like homeboy said, get a few books and your cool.

Here's my site.

I need to seriously update it too!

Im in the same position as dude, don't know much about web design, and a friend recommended that book and I think its a pretty decent start.

I got my work cut out for me.

Well, I won't be doing the work. Just looking for someone capable. I figure I have to know what to look for in a web designer.

Thanks again, yall.
