I recently got a Gateway notebook with a DvD+R/W burner (Cyberlink power2Go/power dvd writing software) and maxell 3 pack of DVD+Rs. I was able to copy some quicktime videos from my digital camera after I converted the .mov files to mpeg-1, mpeg-2, and avi (tried all three file types). The disc played fine on my computer dvd player.

However, when I tried the disc in the PS3, PS2, and two other dvd players... it had disc error and bad disc.


What am I doing wrong? Is it the DVD+R discs (wrong disc), is it the files I'm converting and burning, is it the dvd players I'm using?

or you need a new dvd player

you can dl a bunch of avi to dvd converters. companies like xilisoft, amor, ultra... etc.

What kind of new dvd player do I have to get. PS3 supports all formats.

MPEG1 or MPEG2 files don't work?

I got a converter, I think one that you mentioned. What do you mean avi to dvd? Dvd is not a file. Maybe you mean a program that burns and accepts avi files?


Why would it only play on the notebooks dvd player?

check your dvd player's compatability.

some older DVD players dont support either + or - DVD R's.

It could just be your DVD player cant play a DVD+R, but will play a DVD-R (more commonly supported i believe).

If you arent sure, get a DVD-R, burn the videos onto there and try playing that on your DVD player.

the conversion thing above is the first priority, but you may wanna switch discs too if your burner supports it

DVD+R's give you the ability to burn them in DVD-ROM mode which is the standard mode for regular DVDs. This basically means that any machine that reads your burned DVD won't know it's not some legit store bought DVD.

Not all burners will let you do this though. Some will require you to even update with a hacked firmware to switch to DVD-ROM mode.
