82502, WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw 2007... if you're interested Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Nov-12-06 10:34 PM
you may wanna skip it this year, unless you've got an XBOX360 and have not played the PS2 versions.
The Doc is hearing some bullshit about this game, that's making him hold his money back for the first time in years.
First of all, the lack of a lot of moves in create mode is pissing The Doc off.
Created characters with words and logos on their gear can't be used online.
Moveset restrictions by weight class...
NOPE.
They're trying too hard to sim the actual WWE, which...if you haven't seen, is a lot of some hot garbage now.
The Doc found that the previous installment had some redemption factor, but The Doc's gonna skip this one altogether, get a GameCube and Day of Reckoning 2 instead, or someshit.
They straight up went "Madden" on this shit.
X360 players only need apply, PS2 players who have the year before and beyond, skip this shit.

82517, I have a 360....why do you say UNLESS you have a 360 Posted by Instant_Vintage, Mon Nov-13-06 12:10 AM
I need to know, i am dying to get this game but I dont want to purchase another stinker...(Raw and RAW2)
|
82538, because if you've played RAW, RAW2, and WM21.... Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Nov-13-06 01:27 AM
this will be better than those games gameplay/options wise.
But for longtime SmackDown fans, this is some bullshit.
|
82562, okay, now i had a PS2 for about a week, I bought that SVR06 Posted by Instant_Vintage, Mon Nov-13-06 08:10 AM
and I loved the game. I thought the story mode was a little linear, but it was fun. I returned my PS2 because the shit died and I just got my money back and said fuck it. I hope this game is good...if its not, im going all the way back to N64
|
82575, yeah. It was linear because.. Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Nov-13-06 10:33 AM
they spend all this time on voice overs to make it "realistic". This one, they have a storyline with Kurt Angle, and he doesn't even have his real voice.
Eff that, they need to take out the voices except the announcers, put in moves, and fix the online mode. The Doc would cop.
Still, it's gonna be better than any native XBOX title.
|
82840, *sigh* still linear Posted by Instant_Vintage, Tue Nov-14-06 10:35 PM

yea its cheaper, but Wii plays all GameCube games natively.

82570, I'M REALLY TIRED OF THIS. Posted by Invisiblist, Mon Nov-13-06 09:17 AM
I've been waiting for an online Smackdown to rock my world for 7 years, man. I've been waiting to take the created Invisiblist wrestler online and break spirits for 7 YEARS. I thought this was gonna be the one.
What is wrong with developers? Can nobody see what a money-maker this could be? I simply don't understand how you have a near-perfect gaming franchise and it gets worse over time. If you just kept it the same and added features, you'd at least stay current.
|
82574, The moves shit really pissed The Doc off.... Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Nov-13-06 10:32 AM
and people broke the last one online, abusing moves that couldn't be countered well, and there's even a FAQ out there with sequences that are uncounterable.
The Doc thought this would be the one too. SVR08 really better fix the PB&J.
|
82579, Man, the CAW for OKPs would be months of hilarity by itself. Posted by Invisiblist, Mon Nov-13-06 12:14 PM
We could create rumble with Janus, Swigga......MAN. This is some bullshit.
|
82617, LTDFAO Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Nov-13-06 04:52 PM
if only you could do what you used to in SmackDown games... make a "female" CAW and make the gender "Other" so you could use it in Season...
that would be Swigga. But damn, a Janus CAW would be funny as shit. I'd have him doing the entire HBK entrance, his finisher would be some bullshit like the Boogeyslam, LOL

|
82708, Yeah. You should be able to make stables.... Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Nov-14-06 12:52 PM
it's been in SmackDown games for years.
That's how you get custom-made tagteams and alladat.

82712, SvR 06 had some bullshit auto-save/load sequences Posted by Drizzit, Tue Nov-14-06 01:20 PM
this kind of crap totally turns me off to gaming ... when you cant disable the auto-save or when every other screen has some loading bullshit going on. dampens the gameplay.
i hear SvR 07 is more of the same bullshit. i am not copping this game ... i was sick of 06 in 1-2 months because of that crap.
|
82717, I Haven't Kept Up With This. Posted by Sarkazm, Tue Nov-14-06 02:35 PM
What moves are notably missing?
Guess I won't be retiring Fire Pro and King of Colosseum anytime soon.
|
82730, Man, in '06, they took out Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Nov-14-06 03:50 PM
the Samoan Driver (as The Doc calls it, the real F-U), a bucketload of Tazz's suplexes, then they took away Brock's suplex animations...
now cats are saying Death Valley Driver isn't even in the game as a finisher.
|
82754, Yeah That's Bullshit Posted by Sarkazm, Tue Nov-14-06 05:46 PM
I could tolerate having to unlock the moves, but not having them in there at all? The piledrive ban has carried over to the games now if it's true. You can't be a proper wrestling video game without a death valley driver or even a brainbuster. Does this removal of moves carry over to the 360?
|
82755, Yes. Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Nov-14-06 05:50 PM
Word is the game was developed on 360 and ported downward.

82802, so, I got mine and started playing around 1130 Posted by Instant_Vintage, Tue Nov-14-06 08:52 PM
now i dont know how it is going to be for SvR vets, but for me, a newbie to the line, this game is dope. The moves are there, but there is a lot of moves to unlock with cash as you go along. DVD isnt there listed as a DVD but there is 2 versions of the FU. There are some unlockable movesets as well. I have seen the piledriver again as well.
CAW is sick as hell. You can customize damn near everything about your wrestlers, however, unless you want a bald guy or bad locs or cornrolls (c) Lay then you really cant have a black wrestler. There is no fade hair, the locs and cornrolls suck. And I wont even mention the fro.
GM mode is something I will have to get used to and learn, its all a little overwhelming so far.
Season seems linear as hell. I started a season with one CAW then started a new one with another CAW and the shit is the same. Kinda sucks. I think that may be the joy of GM mode. N E Way, gotta go to work, will be back later.
|
82805, I don't know why they haven't instituted Create-A-Haircut. Posted by Invisiblist, Tue Nov-14-06 08:58 PM
|
82810, man, that is some BULLSHIT.... LOL Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Nov-14-06 09:28 PM
The Doc made a CAW of himself in SVR "05" (the original SVR) and it had the fade cut...ended up looking like The Rock circa '02.
They took that out now? PB&J.
|
82836, imma hafta peep it when i get home, but from what I saw, nope. Posted by Instant_Vintage, Tue Nov-14-06 10:26 PM
you can have an ill ass white dude with all kindsa hair and fades...but aint no black hair on that jawn.
fuckin up my bWo...black world order faction.
|
83177, you CAN do a fade on there...and a baldy, but if your CAW is black Posted by Instant_Vintage, Thu Nov-16-06 11:38 PM

83154, A WWE sim? Posted by truth0ne SGC, Thu Nov-16-06 10:00 PM
Isn't WWE a sim in real life? I always thought that those games should be along the lines of NBA Jam and shit... Just take it way beyond reality and have fun w/ it.
|
83214, Yeah. The GameCube games eventually got to where it SHOULD be Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Nov-17-06 08:06 AM
and generally, wrestling games were that. The Doc always thought they should have a good mix of "sim" and "fun".
But now they're sucking all the "fun" out of it, trying too hard to "sim".
Shit is some bullshit, just like on real TV.
|
83175, okay, so storymode....(SPOILERS)/nWo Posted by Instant_Vintage, Thu Nov-16-06 11:32 PM
You CAW will NOT wear the title when he wears is. PROBLEM for me.
The story is shitty. I almost wonder if Vince is laughing at how this storymode is almost as wack as the REAL stories in WWE. For example....you get turned into a girl for a match...yes, a female. You get paired with folks for tag matches and that alliance lasts for about, oh, a match. They trade you AFTER you win the tag titles...what kinda shit is that? N e way, i wont go into to much more, but yeah, story mode is simply to build up your wrestlers then use them in GM mode.
One great thing is that they have the nWo logo avail along with the entrance so you can create the nWo. I have made Nash, Hall, Sting and Pump. I Imagine you can make Hollywood cause they have all his movements in there, but you cant clone Hulk to do it. So you gotta start from scratch. Thats lame.
|
83215, they need to take those voices out and go back to non-linear. Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Nov-17-06 08:10 AM
There's a laundry list of shit they've done right, others they haven't.
WWE SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain was perhaps the best one in the series, and then they started stepping backwards.
|
83216, how bout...for your CAW, they only have 5 voices, and basically Posted by Instant_Vintage, Fri Nov-17-06 08:20 AM
its the same voice, they used the computer to change the pitch, speed. LOL, its horrible. And some of the wrestlers, the voices they used for those they couldnt tape...bad. very very bad.
OH, and back to the story...why did I squash Nitro in a match for the number one contender spot, only to have a message from him on my cell the next day saying good luck and he wants to help me win the title....WHAT? Same thing with Candice...for some reason, you have to fight her....next thing you know, she is rooting for you in a match. WTF. Yo, If the exibition, title matches werent so fun, I would say fuck that shit.
|
83254, TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH! Posted by Improv, Fri Nov-17-06 12:12 PM
>WWE SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain was perhaps the best one >in the series, and then they started stepping backwards.
But I can tell you why...WWE WAS BETTER BACK THEN!
Wow...the storyline sucks that much? Good thing I rented (it should be at my house by the time I get home).
Here's what they need to do: -work on the effing AI -don't rely on the WWE writing team -make the story makes sense -make it so that if you decided to side with your enemy, it makes sense. That said...they should have a way you can turn on your tag team partner. -HCTP had the best storyline length of all the games. It wasn't too short and it wasn't too long (though I prefer the Madden style of playing for however long you want, but I guess that wouldn't work if new characters keep coming in...)
I'm just going off of the last couple of Smackdowns
We are all dreamers...
In Honor of the PS3 launch, overheard at the Sony Store:
So which games are you getting? "Gears of War" GOW? That's on the 360 "Oh well I guess I'm getting a 360 then..."

83294, see, Yuke's/THQ is getting like EA w/Madden. Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Nov-17-06 04:00 PM
fuckin' up the core but adding bells and whistles every year.
They finally fixed the Submission shit in SVR, took it even further with SVR06 (by changing nearly every submission to type A or B...though, not like DOR where ALL of them were like that)
But the steps back...
They locked divas out of all the "special" match types (First Blood, The Doc can live with, but some of those others are garbage. If you're gonna make them suck, don't put them in the game at all, ITDO)
Starting with SVR, a lot of the "non"-WWE finishers and moves started to disappear.
Better animated moves (the old, non taunting Rock Bottom, the non-taunting Book End, the old, non taunt, non pin Tombstone Piledriver) were replaced with SHIT...
...yet Triple H had 3 different Pedigrees (the OG, the Crap-i-gree he does now, and the "RVD" Pedigree).
the CAWs looked absolutely excellent in SvR06 (you can make a damn near classic Rock) but compared to the parts/pieces and layers allowed in Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes The Pain? PB&J. They got rid of 2 toned items for solid colors.
Hell, they need to bring back mix and match hair (like they had in Just Bring It).
All those idiotic paisley patterns and shit are garbage. If you wanna make some real wrestlers, you have to get a little too creative.
And they play a little too safe trying to prevent people from making "nude" CAWs (if you make those, you're a lame-o anyway).
>But I can tell you why...WWE WAS BETTER BACK THEN!
It was. That game had the best roster of all SmackDown games. Goldberg, Brock, (Heel) Rock, Austin, HBK, plus a grip of ECW/WCW dudes that just signed? Orton, Jericho, Benoit, Booker T, Goldust, the legends... The Doc even thinks the Hurricane was in that joint. That game was the best roster of any US-bound wrestling game ever. All it needed was Bret Hart to make it complete.
>Here's what they need to do: >-work on the effing AI >-don't rely on the WWE writing team >-make the story makes sense
that was one thing that was messed up. Until now, they had a way of making better storylines than WWE. Now, they're making things as idiotic, or even more. Last year's "ECW" storyline kicked ASS. It was better than what they had done with the real "ECW".
>-make it so that if you decided to side with your enemy, it >makes sense. That said...they should have a way you can turn >on your tag team partner.
Yeah, The Doc is hearing that even "heel" type wrestlers have to go the clean route in the storylines. Were there not so many blasted voices invested in the game, they could change it back to the old way, where at least there were a good number of branches of the storyline based on which route one took.
>-HCTP had the best storyline length of all the games. It >wasn't too short and it wasn't too long (though I prefer the >Madden style of playing for however long you want, but I guess >that wouldn't work if new characters keep coming in...)
If they took HCTP, added the gameplay innovations, nixed the restrictions, and added the "fair" element that Day of Reckoning had (its failure was in the 10 000 years it took for cats to get up from moves they hit...but the game was rather balanced otherwise)...they would have the G.O.A.T. title
every year they take the steps they need, but just omit ones that weren't broken.

83492, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 Posted by jimaveli, Sun Nov-19-06 03:11 AM
>But that is the best wrestling game made
was waaaaay better. And NO slowdown or glitchy bullshit. Much better roster (Misawa owned shit; Vader and Stan Hansen were killin it; Muta was a pimp too). Better CAW (perfect Jimaveli fro and outfits). More fly ass reversals and moves (thinks about Great Muta's mist reversals). I still have that joint around here somewhere.
And besides, the last couple Smackdowns were better than No Mercy is...yep...I went there. Reversals and stamina alone make the recent SDs better than No Mercy could ever dream of being. If not, DOR2 was better for sure.
I need the latest FirePro or the 3D PS2 joint. The last ones I played were the DS ones and D on Dreamcast (hotness with the downloaded CAW packs!).

that any wrestling game got. The smackdown series doesnt reach that level. I got Wrestle Kingdom on my xbox 360 (jap version of what smackdown is based on) and thats garbage, im downloading this new smackdown on 360 and im sure it will be garbage as well.

83588, The Doc would put his money on Day of Reckoning 2 Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Nov-19-06 06:56 PM
that's the modern evolution of the No Mercy system... with modern innovations.
The game even has the same spirit system.

|
83786, The Doc was too. Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Nov-20-06 10:47 PM
Outside of CAW, the DOR series is almost infinitely superior to SmackDown despite not being able to hold so many wrestlers on it. There's no GM Mode or any of the extras...or as many Legends (basically they got The Rock, Bret, Hogan, Stone Cold, and Mankind)
The AI can get brutal, and getting up is ridiculously on some BS...
but one play of that game reminded The Doc of No Mercy with the SvR innovations (outside of clean/dirty). The gimmick matches like Hell in a Cell, Table, and Cage are (and have been) infinitely superior... they are a lot like they were in No Mercy, you can even do any move on a table/on a chair/on a bell...like you used to. Submissions can be broken up by anything (heck, even grapples can be if you run in quick enough).
