mfs automated all of their routing updates, which is great, until your backbone trunk disconnects and all that automated shit automatically turns off

According to the article, the result isn't the work of a hacker or a cyberattack. Glad that's the case.
But between this and last night's 60 Minutes interview, things aren't the best for Facebook.

I worked at a small ISP and our BGP stuff went crazy. Took a few hours to fix, but we had several thousand customers that were not happy.
We ended up putting a checklist in place and had to have 2 engineers present and using the list when making changes.
