This post isn't about M$ft vs Sony but more in the lines of are you going to dive into the next gen systems or not.

Personally I'm on the fence, if I do this is probably the last console I'll buy for myself (Murtaugh).

Games are still my stress reliever but I can get that right now on the current gen shit. I wasn't planning on being an early adopter for either one but like I said on the fence about getting one down the line.

every generation since PS2, i get the current gen machines like 6 months to a year after they drop. Probably the same for this crop of machines.

I have a ton of games for the current gen to keep me sated for years honestly, so backwards compat will be a big factor for me as well.

i think the first time i was ever 'current' was Gamecube and now Switch

I'm always late on TVs. I rocked a Philips CRT until about a year before the PS4 and only lucked into it because my dad upgraded. My current LG is stuck at 720p so I don't totally see the point in a new system right away. Hoping somebody like Best Buy (or Sony themselves) will put together some kind of console/TV/soundbar combo desperate for sales due to COVID (I have no idea how retail is doing though).

the like, second tier TCL / Vizio / Hisense sets are incredible, I have a TCL 6 series now, although you may want to wait for the 2020 joints to really hit to get one with HDMI 2.1

It seems to have everything this year's Samsung Q80T has. If this year's P series model drops to under $900 before the holidays I'm pulling the trigger.

Since there's essentially no chance of getting a new MGS, this might be the time I finally jump off the current-gen train for good. I have an insane backlog of games dating back to the 8-bit era, so I'll be fine.

The base Xbox one to the One X is telling - so yeah you are gonna see a big change on the next one.

Probably not at launch, but probably not years down the line either. If they announce something dope it'll be sooner than later.

Last time around I got a PS4 out the gate and an Xbox One a month before Titanfall dropped.

I've always found GTA to be a great showcase of what that current generation can do.
The 360 console came out in 2005. GTA V came out fall of 2013, and looked amazing for the times.

This gen taught me just get them all and you never miss anything. Sony and Nintendo are my exclusives machines and Xbox my third party and Game Pass joint. I super want one of the LG OLED's for Next Gen though.

I copped PS1 and PS2 first day (pre order was the way to go). By PS3 I had kids and a wife, so it had to wait. Plus the launch titles didn't really move me, so I was content to wait until the next Gran Turismo release. Similar deal with the PS4. Waited for bonus time then copped the system, 2nd DS4, charger, and SSDH drive.

Unless there's some serious must have games, confirmed BC and I have some extra spending money I may wait again to cop the PS5. Waiting for the announcement program

but i'm pretty satisfied with the Switch so i'm on the fence on whether its worth the money.

there have been a few Sony exclusives that I wish I could play, but I'm not really a gamer like that anymore and there is always a backlog of good stuff to get to. most AAA releases are either multi-platform or ported to PC later.

I'm actually closer to getting a Switch due to the portability (quick gaming around the house) and fact that current Nintendo games will never reach PC.

I think the UHD drive only adds like $20 on Sony's end, but the drive is more than a $20 value for people with 4k blurays and trade games.

I'm thinking the base price is $500 and the digital edition tries to hit that $400 mark. Or at least that's what I'm hoping. If it's $600 and $500, it's another PS3 fiasco.

They might be thinking that, long term, a discless system means everybody is buying from the PS Store for the most part. With that, the ~$80 hit in price diff is offset after a person buys X many games where Sony doesn’t have to pay for manufacturing and shipping discs.

We’ll see. I’ve seen rumors now that even Lockhart won’t be that cheap so who knows.

Yeah, I dunno.

The XSX is definitely out. It can't even do back compat as well as my Xbox One X.

XSX and PS5 both feel a little pricey.

XSX is somewhat offset by Game Pass being good, but what's on/will be on Game Pass is unpredictable. There also isn't really anything I'm dying to play day one (other than fast-loading, 60fps Destiny 2).

PS5 has a new Spider-Man game with my favorite version of Spider-Man...but it's also coming to PS4 (!) so no rush with that, either.

Wario64 ?? That was the twitter link i was sent.. got me right into "add ps5 to cart" page on amazon.. 10 seconds later i had my preorder..

The no disc version looks nice, and who doesn't like saving $100 off the jump? But in the long run it'll be cheaper to go with the disc version just given how game sales work.

But I got the money set aside. Gonna keep trying. I’m gonna be salty if I don’t get to play Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls this year.

I had a chance to get the standard PS5 a couple times, but I passed on it because I haven’t used an optical drive for games in eight years and fuck paying an extra $100.

Not really interested in either Xbox this year. Probably won’t get one until 2022 (unless Microsoft drops a must have game out of nowhere).

I'm counting this as related, but Microsoft just bought up Zenimax/Bethesday for $7.5 billion apparently.

The amusing part about it is while you wonder what it could mean for exclusivity (Elder Scrolls, Doom, etc.), it currently makes Microsoft the publisher of two planned Playstation exclusives.

Still not gonna get one at launch, but I’m almost certain to get one sooner or later.

I'm on PC so I expect to get everything still, but depriving Sony from console exclusives that have acolyte followings really moves the needle for them. they now have "must have" franchises to rotate onto Game Pass.

Went old school and lined up at my local Gamestop. They had Six X and 2 S available, I was mercifully, number six in line. I pre-ordered the Shock Blue controller and charge pack and Black Ops. I am still trying to secure a PS5 pre-order.

MS ain't slick. I have an O.G. Xbox One. Joint developed a weird problem last week. The game and the apps work fine, but the power light starts blinking and the box starts clicking. I see MS doesn't repair them anymore. So while it works fine, it's really annoying when trying to enjoy shows and movies.

Long story short, I got in on the pre-order online. Annoying as hell. Most vendors didn't have working pages. Finally the MS Store worked for me and I have my confirmation email.

I was shook there for a bit because Best Buy’s site just said “Coming Soon” way after they were supposed to go live. Ended up ordering from Amazon instead.

and I've heard rumors retailers are barely getting any in comparison to the standard disc version. Now could Sony pull the okie doke and discontinue the digital version in a year or so like they did the 20gb PS3 back in the day? I know it's a different age now and more people like digital versions of things, but when the standard disc version is $100 more when the drive isn't worth that, it makes me wonder. Was this a move to be competitive in the PR game, but all along they want to steer people to the $500 system where they don't lose as much money? Or am I just way off? lol

I didn't think I'd get the PS5 after that frantic night but I managed to get one standard edition preorder from Target the next day thanks to Wario64's post.
Yesterday after a frustrating couple hours I was able to get a Series X from Amazon, Series X from Best Buy and Series S from Best Buy. All thanks to following Wario64 like a hawk.

My plasma needs to be retired this gen (hell, last gen, really) and I'm not going LED/QLED. If I'm paying for next gen visuals, I better be able to see 'em.

That said, will get the PS5 for sure and maybe the XBS, depending on how the whole Bethesda thing works out and what games they have. I do have a PC that just needs a GPU upgrade, so may not even go that route unless there's an exclusive I just have to get (and so far, no generation of Xbox has had an exclusive like that for me)

But I’m wondering if it’s just better to spend an extra $200 for the LG CX. But if that Vizio drops in price like they always do I may consider it. I had been looking at the 2020 Vizio P series QLED. If that price gets any lower I might just have to bite.

GameStop let me get all the way to the checkout screen before saying "Oh, actually, we're out of stock." So, I've been approved for the All Access payment plan, but I don't have a console on lock. I'm reaching out to Xbox Support to see what to do.

Xbox is ass as a staff, record label, and crew but the Series S is only $300... Ps5 is already budgeted. Need to finish 70 ps4 games so it gets played first.

I need a new ultrawide monitor and nothing has all the features under $350. I need 144 to 240 hz, minimum 1440p resolution, 1 ms response time, HDR 10, two to three HDMI 2.0 ports minimum 27 inch display preferably 30 something etc.

Xbox has five year old games so it waits.

I already told my wife this is probably the year the plasma gets replaced in the basement. Do not want a LED so been holding out for OLED to come down to something reasonable. I want the LG, but I'd take the Vizio over a QLED.

After I get the TV, then I can worry about the PS5. That purchase was already a given. The 'when' is the big question, and I'm fine waiting until the TV is in place. By that time hopefully supply would increase and there may be a PS5 game or 2 I want to play rather than just my PS4 library. As long as I'm set up when Forbidden West drops, I'll be OK

Still doesn't make sense to pull the trigger since it's probably a lot more prudent to wait until the HDMI 2.1 technology is a lot more popular hence making those kinds of TVs that much cheaper.

I downloaded the Gears and Forza 4 upgrade so far. Super quick and quiet like everyone's been saying. The same menu moves so much better on it. But dang I need a place to put it. It's on the floor right now in the living room because of how our entertainment center is. Just wasn't going to work vertically or horizontal on it so I sat it on the floor vertically. Preordered Falconeer and Bright Memory. Waiting patiently to be able to play hopefully at midnight.

Ordered the disc version from Target over a week ago and still haven't got it yet.

Not gonna have it on launch day, but it should be here next week.

I passed up on two or three standard PS5 pre-orders and felt like a clown, but waiting a few days to save a hundo works for me.

Snagged it after midnight on launch day and they overnighted it to me for free (because of PS Plus).

Only set me back $440 for the console, taxes and everything.

The box, a headset, and two games was less than 7 bills. Gonna get the setup ready tonight and break that thang in this weekend.

Grabbed Watch Dogs Legion a few days early to run on the OG Xbox 1 to see how it would upgrade. Runs so much quicker on the series X.

Upgrading my set up was really a snap. Just takes a little time. I was running 95% of my xbox 1 games off a Western Digital HDD external joint. Just plugged it in to the Series X, transferred over priority games I'll want to play, then downloaded my new games. Then booted up my Smart Delivery games to trigger the upgrades for NMS, WDL and Borderlands 3.

Playing back compat games is SEAMLESS. Playing them off the HDD is cool, but the priority ones I moved over to the Series X HDD load up blazingly faster.

Also decided to test the blu ray player. All is good there too, and the no matter what the machine is doing, it's hush quiet.

Like Soul Calibur 6. That game drove me crazy on Xbox One with how slow it loaded between matches. It was literally a minute long. But the series X reading off the external loads matches in like 5-7 seconds. I'm like whoa.

I can get it to work for a day, but when I come back, it won’t let me connect to Live. If I keep it on long enough, it stops connecting to my wifi. I’ve reset to factory settings twice now.

Sometimes screen flickers, the receiver's lights for connection flicker out, then come back.

Trying to get "normal" folks to troubleshoot shit is like pulling fucking teeth.

It didn’t like being connected to my 2.4 GHz network and wouldn’t open the NAT. Works like a charm on 5 GHz.

the switch has been the only new system i have bought. growing up we always had nintendo systems. i dont play games often enough to make sense getting either of these at launch. yet im tempted to.

These are probably the two most similar competing consoles ever made. So either one is a good choice. When you’re ready to buy, think more about what you want to play instead of where you want to play it, and pick the console that’s the best to play those games.

who won't be getting a series X right away, if the 'exclusives' war that is kind of ramping up between them draws you to one over the other, the games can deserve making a decision. If you're happy with your first party Nintendo stuff and just want to use the other console to dip into everything else, Xbox and its game pass thing might be a good fit. If you feel like you can't miss out on that Spiderman: Miles Morales game though, the PS5 might be it. :)

I haven't paid too much attention to all of the new stuff really since I know I'm waiting and would rather not know what I'm missing lol. The stories of people getting robbed in Toronto in the news here are making it easier!

....The 60fps looks nice and smooth to me, but not at the expense of ray tracing and other enhancements ..My TV cant even do 120fps, so i wont even go there

30 FPS is fine for it and the RT is gorgeous. Might switch to performance for NG+.

Demon’s Souls? Performance. The game has no RT and a locked 60 for a Souls game is major.

its weird.. i never noticed 30fps wasn't smooth until i switched back and forth.. it's too bad we can't have both.
