304855, easiest CompTIA certification between Cloud+, Network+, & Server+? Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Oct-25-19 09:43 AM
my job just recently threw out an easier path to promotion if you have one one these, I figure one should be easy to knock out, I actually had a Network+ study guide a while back but never took the test

304856, They're entry level certs...if you're a technical person, I don't think any Posted by nonaime, Fri Oct-25-19 10:21 AM
of them would be hard or one that's easier than the other, if you're starting with zero knowledge of the subject.
Once you get past an entry level, employers are going to want to see more specialized certs anyways (AWS, CCNA, etc). If it were me, I'd go down the cloud path (DevOps or SecDevOps), though.

304857, yeah I'm not entry level I've actually been around since before most of... Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Oct-25-19 02:13 PM
those were even a thing. Under old management they didn't really care about certs if you had quantifiable experience. New management is very big on certs. They threw out those CompTIA certs, CCNA, MCSE:CI and some vendor specific cert for some other hardware we use.
I figured one of the CompTIA certs would be the easiest and quickest.

304859, Oh, I've been there. Was told I needed Network+ and Security+ even though Posted by nonaime, Fri Oct-25-19 03:24 PM
I have my CISSP and CCNA-Security already. Signed up for both CompTIA exams...didn't bother studying for either, was in and out...now I have those stupid CompTIA certs too.

304862, the ease of those exams will have you looking SIDEWAYS Posted by Rjcc, Mon Oct-28-19 02:42 AM
at anyone who ever proudly trumpeted having one
because if you took it and didn't feel like it was a joke then....man
now yours though, some people cram through them but you have to know something

304858, it's been forever, but I can't imagine network+ is much harder now Posted by Rjcc, Fri Oct-25-19 03:16 PM

304860, the only pain is that now the CompTIA certs require continuing education Posted by nonaime, Fri Oct-25-19 03:30 PM
credits to be fulfilled in order to maintain them. If you have other certs, the education credits overlap, but if all you have are the CompTIA certs...seems like an awful lot of training to keep up with for those certs.

304861, ughhh. that's in some ways better than it was Posted by Rjcc, Mon Oct-28-19 02:40 AM
but I'm not surprised it's the way they've gone, it's just a money making scheme really

304863, most def a money making scheme. Between all the training Posted by nonaime, Mon Oct-28-19 04:49 AM
about 40hrs per year and the "maintenance" fees, I easily cost my employer two or three grand a year and that's being way conservative, cuz those training/conferences and travel/lodging are hella expensive.

304912, I earned my CompTIA certs in the early 2000s Posted by Innocent Criminal, Thu Nov-21-19 03:11 PM
Mine are all good for life thankfully. I wouldn't even bother to renew if I had to, unless my job just demanded it.
