304852, How is there not a Dragon Quest XI post?
Posted by hardware, Sat Oct-19-19 04:50 PM
this game is incredible. i'm about 40hrs in.
304853, Started the PS4 version this summer
Posted by jaywonder, Wed Oct-23-19 03:00 AM
but planning on trading the PS4 version in for copy on the Switch after I get thru the demo
304883, I'm halfway through and it gets dark.

This one of the darkest games this generation. The plot twists are insane and it's somewhat fun early on.
304885, I'm just past Yggdrasil *spoilers*

playing though Rab's part. This feels like playing DQ4 right now and i love it
305430, I'm up to around here

Yeah this part reminded me of DQ4 as well, but honestly I've found the last few hours to be a bit boring. Can't wait to get the whole crew back again.
305117, i'm finally about to beat this game

Quarantine actually got me to sit down.

Still have no idea how one of the greatest RPGs ever has a post with this few responses
305244, Just started

Playing the Switch version. It's actually really cool that you can go through the whole game in 2D, but I'll probably be leaving that alone for a while.

Loving the auto battle which really speeds things up and makes grinding less tedious. Also really like the ability the move around in battle, even though it doesn't affect turns or defense at all, it still makes things a lot more exciting.

the 2D mode to me is more of a 2nd or 3rd playthrough thing. its a TOTALLY different game

the party AI is also really really good. Also uh, make a beeline straight for Erik's dual wield.
305250, Yeah I might need to reset his skill tree
Posted by topaz, Fri Sep-04-20 01:32 AM
I unlocked his steal ability even though I use that skill like 0.001% of the time in JRPGs
305251, its dope they let you do that
Posted by hardware, Fri Sep-04-20 03:33 PM
the game just spoils you

also this is good

Steam, etc

Definitely one of the greatest RPGs of all time

Demo still 10hrs
305458, Finished the main game, doing the postgame now
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-10-21 07:44 PM
100+ hours and it's still engaging, but

SPOILERS

I'm not a fan of the time travel part, yeah I get that it opens the game world up, but it really cheapens the impact of a certain character's death, and all that stuff and character development that happened after the tree's fall all seem pointless now. Not sure if the game addresses this after you fight the true final boss.

SPOILERS END
305461, keep playing

i have heard the same thing from others and i absolutely get the feeling. but it does do something with it in the end

honestly its just a matter of the game itself being so good and that they manufactured this script for what is legitimately a videogamey post game with all the post game video gamey challenges that it feels like an 'Act 3'. Personally i was so happy to have them back, i really didn't care

i don't wanna spoil it but if you make it to the end, they put a decent little bow on it in a way that only a DQ game can.
305472, Finished

Didn't realise you were meant to use the Sword of Light against the final boss, spent around an hour and kept getting KOed. It was a breeze after I used it. The ending was cool as a celebration of the franchise. Still not loving the time travel aspect but the amount of things to do made up for it.

Highlight for me was finishing all the sidequests, which includes beating the final trial of Wheel of Harma. That was ridiculous. Romancing Jade was cool too.
305473, Congrats

Can’t wait for 12
305474, I might finally check out the 2D mode, at least for an hour or two

There's the optional boss challenges in Tickington too. There's certainly no shortage of content here!
