Those two look great.

Other than that, a lot of whimsical adventure games that aren't my thing.

Considering what's in the box.

It's some weird priorities, though.

They won the arms race, but that price is too high for the mass market and too high to keep enthusiasts from just building a PC instead.
302362, Actually I agree.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Sun Jun-11-17 08:29 PM
I went in thinking $599 given what was inside.

I'm considering it cause I'm not building my own PC.
That's not me. I thought it was...ha.
302363, It's dope for Xbox fans
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jun-11-17 08:35 PM
but you can legit buy two consoles for the price of a One X right now.

Xbox One S is $200.

PS4 Slim is $250 (probably dropping down to $200 soon).

Nintendo Switch is $300.

If you got one of those three already, you can pick up the other two for the price of the One X and complete the generation.
302372, Same here, I was expecting $600.
Posted by wallysmith, Mon Jun-12-17 09:14 AM
But $500 is mentally a major barrier to entry... I'm guessing it'll still sell well though then welcome to our new "mid-generation" refresh overlords.

I bought the One on "Day One" for $500 so it's not like I would never pay that price for a console. But, that one still works fine and does 80% of what the X does. I have a 4K tv that I have never seen 4K content on, so that is the main part that interests me. I haven't really been spending much time playing games lately though, so its hard to justify.

scorpio seems fine. as a pc gamer it holds very little appeal for me, especially at the $499 price point. the GB stream noted that there would be a positive trickle down effect to PC with devs shooting for higher spec targets on consoles. everyone wins

a lot of games here

battlegrounds coming to consoles is awesome. it won't benefit from 4k support because it is a very ugly game. it will probably play better with a controller and a little aim assist

code vein might be good. i wonder if bandai namco pulled dark souls staff to help the god eater folks. i'll probably play an anime soulsborne game

OG xbox backwards compatibility is ...something? are there are any games worth revisiting? it's definitely good for archival purposes

arc systems works-developed 3v3 dragonball game in the guilty gear xrd engine could be phenomenal. even as the most casual dragonball fan this game looks very appealing

anthem looks like destiny? bioware shooting and movement historically isn't great. not sure about this one. i'm confident it will be replete with content

302379, It works, but it doesn't work for this kind of game
Posted by BigReg, Mon Jun-12-17 01:42 PM
The sheer insanity of MVC shenanigans would work well for the license.

But Arc's ain't known for huge rosters in their game, plus despite it being 78,821 episodes of various DB series there aren't THAT many characters that would make it into a fighting game from there.

Its needed tho, cause that infinate looks a little shaky...

blazblue: central fiction has 35 playable fighters. i think arc could handle 40, especially since many dragonball characters have similar/universal moves (hadoken energy beam thing, teleport, punch a dude into a mountain, etc.). maybe not 40 playable fighters at launch though. and i'm sure there will be variants a la evil ryu and robo-ky in young goku, yellow hair goku, slightly longer yellow hair goku, etc.
302381, you can get yourself to 40 fighters off saiyans and Cell/Frieza alone.
Posted by Nodima, Mon Jun-12-17 02:59 PM
that is, if you go the lazy route of separating them out by power level rather than build some kind of EX/move list changing system around it (which would be sort of cool to have your fighters changing tactics and move sets during a fight based on HP/damage dealt/combo meters but that's probably too complicated).

but yea, how many guys got to level 3? pretty much everyone right? Then Cell and Frieza have four forms each all of which are pretty different. Evil and Good Piccolo were slightly different fighters.

302382, i think they can get to 20-22 fairly easily.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Jun-12-17 03:10 PM
and i hope they wouldn't cheese the roster w/ just a bunch of transformations. i also hope ASW doesn't do their normal zillion iterations of a title.

here's what im hoping for

launch roster
heroes: goku, teen gohan, mystic high school gohan, vegeta, future trunks (android/cell saga version), krillin, tien, piccolo, fat buu, gotenks (kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone there w/ the kids. testament/eddie style character)
villains: frieza, cell, 17, 18, majin buu
movie characters: janemba, broly (he will be in this)
others/joke picks: hercule (dan), videl (need another chick to keep the critics away), farmer w/ shotgun
dragon ball super: beerus, hit, black/zamasu

so yeah 20-22. these models are less detailed than Xrd, it's 3v3, and plus its such a beloved and deep property i can't see them starting with less than that. maybe they'd add 16 and Dabura just to give a little more style diversity.

also im sure they'll work in SS Blue Vegeta and Goku too.

then a lot of these would just be novelty ideas for me. they could package all this up as "Dragonball Fighter SUPER" or some shit
dragon ball dlc: kid goku w/ nimbus and power pole, jackie chun
dragon ball super dlc - whis, black, cabba, the chick broly, future trunks super version (unless they put his super version as a Dragon Install esque mechanic like golden frieza.
fusion dlc - vegito, gogeta

and then the ultimate ultimate pipe dream dlc for me would be
- postboy piccolo
- badman vegeta
- great saiyaman

and the bodies.

but if it plays well and competes, EA money can fix that eventually.

I know the hardcore 2K community is pretty fed up with both their MyPlayer and MyTeam aspects of the game, which is where all the long tail money is, so if EA can release a competitive product and do better at one of those two things, maybe 2K will make some actual substantive changes instead of all these cosmetic and half measure changes they've been making for a few years now.

(2K17 played great vs. CPU, maybe the best the game has been in a decade in that regard, but I have to admit I'm on the Ultimate Team train these days and 2K's MyTeam is HOT. PYRRHIC. GARBAGE. Plus, despite just saying I'm on the UT train, if someone changed the game with a Franchise mode, starting with pulling all the innovations over the years into the fold - procedural radio show, weekly newspaper highlighting achievements just to name two - and making them actually immersive experiences rather than a cumbersome, bland wrapper around a season that actually doesn't have that much context to it, I'd be SO down.

MLB The Show did a dope thing this year by developing their career statistics system to incorporate player vs. player stats, so you get information on how a batter has done versus a specific pitcher over their career. They do it both with stat overlays and with procedural commentary from the studio guys. I can see that moving into vs. types of pitchers or in specfic stadiums under specific conditions and to me, that's a big change that helps the Franchise mode tell you a story about your team. They also do the radio show thing which is great for keeping you aware of what's going on around the league without having to constantly read every menu screen if you want to keep in touch.

they don't have any license with the NCAA itself, or the leagues the teams play for, or the coaches that coach them. it's just the jerseys and maybe the arenas, I don't play MyCareer so I don't remember if they have Allen Fieldhouse and so on or not.

I do know that they use fictional streetball courts for their 3-on-3 modes, though, so EA has them beat in that respect.

EA: C. It was a mess, but A Way Out and Anthem were pleasant surprises.

MS: C+. Microsoft ain't learned much, but they showed a grip of (not exactly exclusive) games. The plus is for the One X box being hella slim and sexy.

Bethesda: B-. Evil Within II looks nuts but I'll never play it. Wolfenstein II looks nuts and I can't wait.

Devolver: A/F. What the fuck was that?

Ubisoft: B+. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a beautiful CG trailer.

Sony: C. They ain't really annouce shit. They just teased us with dope footage of games we already know is coming out sometime in the 2030s. The hot streak is over. Woulda been C- for the disappointment, but dat Shadow of the Colossus remake tho.

Nintendo: B+. Metroid Prime 4 is a promising title screen. Woulda been A+ if we actually got a trailer. Woulda been A++ if they announced Metroid V instead.

EDIT:

Nintendo gets bumped up to A- because they announced a Metroid II remake for 3DS.

I never dug Sega much, and I was a 2 console kid for PSX/N64 and PS2/GCN, but I still distinctly remember the immediate decision to sell my Gamecube when Resident Evil 4 was announced for PS2 because I'd only played Super Mario Sunshine for a few hours and obsessed over Wind Waker in the time I'd owned the system. I've wanted to try Super Mario Galaxy but not desperately enough to own those consoles for one/two games.

THESE two though? Nintendo's getting hot.

like a big title every 6 months mixed with a filler or two?

i'm genuinely curious as its not something i've ever thought about. I've never really gotten a console for the AAA exclusives
302407, kind of a hard question to answer, I guess.
Posted by Nodima, Wed Jun-14-17 10:09 AM
part of what was great about owning two consoles in the N64/PSX era was that both consoles had so many exclusives you needed to own both, and like I said the primary reason I sold my Gamecube was Capcom announcing their exclusives were going over to PS2.

I've never been convinced I need a XBox primarily because of the exclusives, they've never spoken to me and I'm strongly in the "line your d-pad up with your face buttons on your controller" camp - another reason I didn't have two consoles in the Sega era, either (plus, my parents had all the say in that era).

So when I really think about it, it's a bunch of exclusive games I want to play real, real bad. For me, right now I really want to play Zelda, Mario, and Mario vs. Rabbids. But I look at certain multipatform games like Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon and some RPGs and think that it might be real nice to be able to just take that off the TV when I want and keep playing.

But, yea, it doesn't have the lineup right now. I'm just side-eyeing this console harder than I have anything since the Gamecube, and that says something to me. Could just be childhood nostalgia and having not played a Nintendo game in a long, long time.

now that you mention all that, i think i do look for exclusives, they're just smaller exclusives. Growing up my parents only got me handhelds really so maybe thats the reason i can never find the experience i'm looking for in the bigger consoles i guess?

Posted by chillinCHiEF, Thu Jun-15-17 12:37 AM
Was thinking about even building a PC for it, but it'll probably look better on a One X than whatever I can scrape together for $500 bucks, so I'm happy it's coming.

Destiny 2 is kind of a given for me, but I feel like I'm going to be disappointed like I was with the first one (and then prolly go on to play it for 1,000 hours like I did the first one).

Mario looks fucking nuts. Gonna pre-order that right now.

Wolfenstein looks damn good. Kinda makes me wanna get the first one, especially since it's only $12 right now.
