the more people who invest into the game, the more tech/meta/"wow I could never do that myself" is discovered and displayed.

even without the welfare Ultras and focus attacks, SFIV became so great to watch because it had one of the largest player/pro bases of any edition in the series. why we are still seeing great tournaments for SFIV despite it being a seven-year-old game? Capcom threw $500,000 at it.

as a counter-example, look at Third Strike. technically the most brilliant and beautiful Street Fighter ever (also it's big problem, accessibility wise). if you watch high-level Japanese 3S, the reads and execution make SFIV matches look like Smash Bros sometimes. but it doesn't matter that a dozen amazing things happened every match, because not enough people in the US cared to play the game at a high level.

the key to SFV is online (see James Chen's comments in that same Twitter convo). match-making and connectivity both suck for SFIV. if Capcom can break the cross-platform/lag/"4000 BP vs 400 BP" wall, more people will be able to level up, more people will come out to tournaments, the overall level of play will increase, and watching it will be more fun.
