293403, GTA V Next Gen Version Launch. Who's coppin?
Posted by Lach, Sun Nov-16-14 06:14 PM
Got my preorder ready and downloaded on my XOne Pins now http://i.imgur.com/zDwVYYM.jpg
I'm ready. Haven't played GTA V at all on the previous gen systems so this will be all new to me. Anyone else getting it this week?
293404, copping on disc, X1
Posted by Rjcc, Sun Nov-16-14 06:45 PM
I enjoyed it on 360. I'm still a bit upset that we're STILL waiting on multiplayer heists, cuz that's the only thing I really want to do in multiplayer.

Posted by JFrost1117, Sun Nov-16-14 07:09 PM
I completely skipped the 360 version since I knew this one was coming, eventually.
293406, I won a bet with a friend and I'm getting it for free.
Posted by chillinCHiEF, Sun Nov-16-14 07:43 PM
About this time last year he said it wouldn't come out for next gen systems in 2014 and I said "you're crazy, yes it will".

So, I'll be getting it for PS4 soon. I never played it on 360/PS3.
293408, I thought they'd wait two years, I was wrong.

I'm betting that the learning curve will be steep as
hell, but I want to start and complete a new open
world game, would prefer a GOOD one

Sheeit...last GTA I played was...fuck...one the before
San Andreas, I think (yeah, that long)?

293414, I'm just getting back into the PS3 version
Posted by topaz, Sun Nov-16-14 11:44 PM
The learning curve isn't that steep, it's just that there are SO MANY things you can do. You can literally spend weeks and months just exploring the map. I still haven't finished the story - everytime I finish a story mission, I'll spend an hour after that just doing random stuff. Parachuting is my fav thing right now, glad they brought it back from BoGT. And I've barely touched the online component.

It looks damn amazing on the PS3 already, although the game's a bit choppy at times. I would think that the enhanced version would have vast improvements in these areas, and the first person view seems interesting too.

Posted by DropWallet, Mon Nov-17-14 04:13 AM
They went out of their way to make it as accessible for the mainstream as possible.

Forgiving checkpoints, slicker gun play and I think you can even skip missions you find too tough...? (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that)

All this is a good thing imo. Throw in first person and 1080p and it's a wrap.

I remember getting this a week before my first child was born.

Played it through to the final mission before the fucker arrived. Never got a chance to complete it as I sold my ps3 to upgrade to a ps4.

Can't wait to finally finish this, lol.

If you fail five+ times (or in that ballpark) you can just ht square to skip the mission, yea. I never did but it seems like you just get a Bronze for the mission and continue on your merry way. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that personally but it definitely makes GTA V one of the most accessible games ever just by default.

293410, Pre ordered Far Cry 4 instead
Posted by mrshow, Sun Nov-16-14 09:54 PM
I figured I could easily wait as I had the last gen version but all these videos I've seen are giving me second thoughts.
293413, that first person trailer made this a no-brainer.
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Nov-16-14 11:13 PM
i was going to cop it again because i loved V and wanted it in HD anyway, but i don't see how anybody could watch that trailer and not flip the fuck out. shit looks like urban Far Cry now.

293419, i'm interested to see how well it runs on the new consoles
Posted by bearfield, Mon Nov-17-14 06:56 AM
i don't expect 60 fps but it should run at a rock solid 30 since the new consoles have something like 8 times as much RAM as the previous consoles. from what i've seen and read, the game engine isn't doing much more than a resolution increase + better textures and some slight improvements to lighting

i'll be picking up the PC version in january, assuming it doesn't get delayed. it will probably get delayed. can't wait to see the game running at 60 fps on 4k and above resolutions + the inevitable crazy graphics and gameplay mods
293443, a locked 30 would be fine.
Posted by IkeMoses, Mon Nov-17-14 01:59 PM

game is fantastic and everything I've seen about the FPS stuff (which, thanks to Bioshock Infinite and Destiny, Im actually kind of into after being bored by the perspective for years) looks incredible.

Waffled for a while on pre-ordering digitally since there were some pretty lame issues with the PSN version on PS3 (pop in chief among them, look up articles about installing both discs on Xbox 360 to see what I mean) but girlfriend really wanted it as soon as possible and since Im working until 2/3AM tonight it just made sense to have the game ready for me when I got home to unwind.

293452, ditto all of that for me
Posted by ear2ear, Mon Nov-17-14 06:32 PM
Infinite was the first time I really enjoyed a FPS, curious to try GTA V again with it. Hummed and hawed on preordering as well, but eventually pulled the trigger after seeing all the new trailers and level of detail.

To be honest, a huge part of my enjoyment of the game was just looking at things. It's a pretty game and now all those things look even prettier. That's probably a terrible justification for repurchasing something barely a year old, but fuck it. It's getting cold out and I'm excited to veg on the couch again with this one.

293453, problem with PC is that you gotta have a beast to run GTA games
Posted by Playa_Politician, Mon Nov-17-14 08:00 PM
whereas the console versions are tailored for that specific hardware. I remember GTAIV barely running on a PC I built just before it came out, then with mods and graphic enhancers i couldn't run it.

I'd love to see what kind of recommended specs this game will have. The GTX770 i bought a year ago may be too old.
293456, that 770 is at least as powerful as a ps4 or xbone
Posted by bearfield, Mon Nov-17-14 11:23 PM
assuming you have 8GB RAM and a decent CPU

you should be fine running the base game at recommended specs at 1080p. you may even be able to pull 60 fps with some tweaking

if you want to do crazy high resolutions or texture replacement mods you could run into some performance issues
293457, the PS4 and XB1 basically are PCs
Posted by Rjcc, Mon Nov-17-14 11:26 PM
so the port shouldn't be a problem if you have decent specs

the day of highly specialized processors are dead

would GTA on a $600 PC look and run vastly better than GTA on a XB1 or PS4?

not even trolling with that question.

i go back and forth on making the PC plunge all the time. still ain't went in yet.
293556, definitely yes, but possibly not.

my issues with PCs are

A) I already have two iMacs and a Macbook in the house

B) The five years I had a PC (granted, a Gateway PC with Windows ME and later XP installed) were a nightmare of bugs and sluggishness and unattractive UI I eventually just modded to copy OS X

C) A friend of mine has Far Cry 4 and ran into an issue where if he played with a gamepad the scripting would constantly crash and lock him in a Jeep at the start of the tutorial that he couldn't get out of or be killed in. He was told to either alt+tab for 5-10 minutes or play with a mouse and keyboard for the first hour and a half then he could use his 360 controller. Random shit like that is just way more frequent/possible with a PC where the hardware is variable and I don't want to deal with it.

I do get jealous when I see stuff like all the mods for GTA IV or how different something like Far Cry 3 runs on PC vs. console, but I also take comfort in knowing any game that comes out for the next ten years will work as well as it possibly could on my PS4 without any monkeying around or extra spending on parts from me.

you had an old and bad pc. that experience shouldn't dictate how you feel about modern PC's, as modern PC gaming is light years ahead of where it was a few years ago, but i understand how it could put you off

sometimes this happens. maybe more often than with consoles (see: launch day issues) but not as often as you might think. the flipside is that the issues on PC are generally patched much faster and more often than on consoles since they don't need to go through MS or sony's verification process

this is the best part of owning a console. as much as like being able to micro-manage my way to the best looking game possible by editing .ini files, i do sometimes yearn for a more straightforward and easier gaming experience

but then i boot up heavily modded skyrim and wonder why i wasted all those hours on the vastly inferior console version. or i run pcsx2 and play a version of final fantasy xii that looks so good and runs so well that it could have been released on ps3. or i delve into a MOBA or m/kb strategy game. or i poke around the steam store and find an indie gem of a game that didn't make it to consoles. or i buy a superior PC port of a console game i missed out on for $5 during a sale

PC gaming requires some extra work but the reward is easily worth the effort imo
293439, They got me
Posted by sectachrome86, Mon Nov-17-14 01:13 PM
I preordered the digital version. I really fucked with this game on 360, but I only did maybe a quarter of the missions before I got distracted by my new Xbox One and haven't played it since.

Their strategy (release on last gens dying breath, deny next gen release, announce next gen release) was kind of shiesty but I opened my wallet again so I can't hate. If I knew the next gen version was happening from the jump I never would have bought the 360 version.

293464, how's the anti aliasing in the city?
Posted by bearfield, Tue Nov-18-14 04:29 AM
the video seemed to indicate that the AA while in the city was still not great. streets and buildings in the distance looked like they were still pretty jaggy. but i don't know how much of that was due to capturing a 1080 game in 720

other than that i think the game looks fantastic
293481, Theonly thing that's bugging me is the rearview mirrors.
Posted by Nodima, Tue Nov-18-14 02:16 PM
if you're waiting for PC Im sure you'll get a mod that fixes it, and maybe they'll be able to patch it at some point, but the rearview mirrors are Nintendo 64 levels of muddy and basically serve no purpose. Its a real shame once you notice that everything else in the car is totally functional - Franklin shifts gears in manual cars, honks the horn, certain radios display the station, artist and song title, the speedometer and RPMs move realistically...but then there are these Blast Corps textures going on, and oftentimes the rearview/driver side mirror is in plain view constantly.

Im not as much a fan of the FPS shooting just yet, its a little floaty moving around and they don't have the right-stick snap-to-target thats in third person. A lot of people who are getting this for the FPS mode are obviously going to play with free aim but Ive always felt the Red Dead Redemption/GTA 4/5 method of third person shooting was the most satisfying combat this side of the Arkham games so its a bit of a bummer that the game doesn't play exactly the same in first person as third person (though, oddly, they offer over ten different control schemes and NONE of them stray far from the third person scheme, let alone offer a CoD/Destiny analog).

i noticed this in the QL. i hate how much it stood out and broke the illusion. i bet they could have implemented a better looking rear view mirror but it would have destroyed the frame rate stability since the engine would basically have to render a portion of the game world at least 1 more time. then again, forza horizon, another open world driving game with buildings, pedestrians, and vehicles, had great looking rear view mirrors on the 360...

i hope they get that minor issue worked out on the PC version

on my lunch break (half an hour late after that painful install, lol).

Surprised at how natural the first person mode seems.
Auto aim needs to go though. The lighting looks absolutely gorgeous.

I need more time in life, why do so many AAAs get released at the same time dammit.

and somehow they still have most if not all of the old ones on there. the rap station is interesting because from my time in the game its felt like nearly every new song is 1017 Brick Squad related.

the classic rock station in particular ... it was one of my favorites in GTA:SA and this one looks a lot more familiar now.

think i'm gonna cop on my way home.

... and i'm gonna need some direction in the online world. i booted it up a couple times on the PS3, but it was a cluster and i had no idea what i was supposed to be doing.

Posted by topaz, Tue Nov-18-14 07:12 PM
Keeps all of your stats, has a checklist of the missions you have and haven't completed, and lots of other cool stuff. The best part is the handy map with all the random events and secrets marked. I had a blast going around different places looking for letter scraps and alien parts. I know past GTAs had packages, pigeons and whatnot, but having the icons on the map makes it the perfect scavenger hunt.
293496, they had that last year but I like the friend updates in the lower left now.
Posted by Nodima, Tue Nov-18-14 08:12 PM
they didn't have those before. earlier today I saw FriendX has been wanted 10 times. And also FriendX beat your score on Repossession. Thats pretty cool, it reminds me of the SSX game EA put out a few years ago except this thing isn't disappointing as hell.

I got 6 games from target last week and still have two I don't want

Now I'll have to see if they'll let me do the trade on the 360 version too

Probably will leave me enough remaining on the card for a bit less than two more games
293515, want: FPS on foot, 3rd person while driving

can this be set up? i didn't have much time with the game last night -- to catch a comet on pbs ... damn that was good! -- and the settings were not as clear as i would have liked.

i know i can switch using the pad, but that's going to get frustrating when i'm mid-mission and don't want to be in the car.

still, it's beautiful. i'm excited all over again.

>i don't think i signed up for rockstar social club through the

they are going to release V on PC at the beginning of next year. there are potentially (and likely) tens of millions of PC gamers who didn't play V on 360 or ps3 and therefore didn't sign up for rockstar social club. i'd be surprised if they locked out that content for such a large user base

extrapolating, there are probably millions of ps4 and xbone owners who didn't play V on the previous gen. it would be silly to permanently withhold that content and potentially alienate those users. my guess is that the bonus content will be exclusive for a while (weeks? months?) before being made available to all current gen users
293522, also, all the people that switched from 360 to PS4 or PS3 to One.

293523, gameological society write-up on online neighborhoods is hilarious
Posted by Drizzit, Thu Nov-20-14 02:12 PM
http://www.avclub.com/article/grand-theft-auto-onlines-neighborhoods-are-defined-211325

Grand Theft Auto games have always been full of virtual people, but when Grand Theft Auto V came out last year, its new online mode introduced a ground-breaking concept: actual people. Now, there’s a chance that the pedestrians you run over while driving a tank down a crowded sidewalk are being controlled by human players instead of the computer. This makes the game’s setting of Los Santos—a veiled parody of Los Angeles—into a living, breathing city. Well, a living, breathing city with only 25 citizens at a time, at least. Just like a real city, though, when a large group of people starts congregating in one area, they naturally start to split off into their own neighborhoods. The neighborhoods of Los Santos are nothing special on their own, since they’re just geographic locations drawn out by the developers at Rockstar, but they take on new life in Grand Theft Auto Online—which is to say that they actually take on life, since real people start choosing to live there.

Grand Theft Auto Online has a real-estate system of sorts that allows players to “rent” apartments in the city and its surrounding areas. They don’t really do anything other than act as a central hub where players can change their clothes, store their cars, and begin to play when logging in, but because of that, a player is free to choose any apartment they can afford. There are no specific requirements on where players can “live,” so that means most will end up choosing the one that best suits the way they play the game. That results in similar players moving to the same areas, and thus, the neighborhoods become something significant. In order to properly explore the way the neighborhoods of Grand Theft Auto Online naturally evolved, I decided to take a tour of the city in my fabulous Gameologicar—the official car of Gameological, seen above—and examine Los Santos’ various neighborhoods to see what they say about the players who live in them. Along the way, I learned a lot about life in the most dangerous virtual city in the world, but mostly I learned that the more money you can afford to spend on bullets, the more bullets you’re going to fire at people. And no, that’s not a metaphor.

Burton

Before I talk about Los Santos’ residential options, I need to discuss the Burton area. Nestled a few minutes southwest of the famous Downtown Vinewood area—see what I mean about veiled?—Burton is home to the most violent block in the entire city. That’s because it contains the most centrally located Los Santos Customs, which is an in-game store that allows players to customize their cars and sell certain stolen vehicles for quick and easy money. This being a game called Grand Theft Auto, that means the Los Santos Customs is very popular. Also due to this being a game called Grand Theft Auto, when locations are popular, they become hotbeds for violent behavior. Case in point: Here’s a picture of what happened while I was taking that last picture:

That’s the Gameologicar on the left. I think. Either way, two other players drove by and noticed that my car was unattended, so they threw a grenade at it.

La Mesa and Cypress Flats

Some players might not be interested in making Los Santos their permanent home, so they can choose to buy a simple garage instead of an entire apartment. For these people, the best choice would definitely be the La Mesa or Cypress Flats neighborhoods. Tucked underneath an array of shining freeways and surrounded by the loveliest warehouses in town, these areas are notable in Grand Theft Auto Online for basically being the worst parts of the city. Very few players will go to them willingly, which makes them two of the safest areas in the entire game for people who just want to collect cool cars and avoid rampaging idiots.

In fact, in my trip to the area, I only ever encountered one other player. He was being pursued by a bunch of cops and—very politely, I might add—he purposefully avoided running me over. He wasn’t interested in dealing with me because he just needed some open roads to try and lose the police. La Mesa and Cypress Flats are utilitarian neighborhoods: They’re not for anyone who wants something with more charm or style, but they do their job and they do it well.

Del Perro and the Vespucci Canals

There’s a huge economic disparity between the people who live in Del Perro and the people who live by the Vespucci Canals. The former contains the second most expensive apartment in the entire city, and the latter is a crappy shithole that would probably be full of 20-year-olds who just got kicked out by their parents if that were a thing that happened in this video game. However, they’re both equally far from Burton, the city’s violent epicenter, which makes them almost as secluded as La Mesa and Cypress Flats. They are beach-adjacent, though, so players looking to rabble-rouse by the ocean will almost certainly pass by and stir up some havoc.

Speaking of stirring up havoc, while I was admiring the Vespucci Canals apartment’s gross turquoise exterior, another player in a smashed-up sports car came speeding around the corner and quickly turned me into a bloody smear on the streets of Los Santos. Actually, you can see him coming on the far right in the photo above. Though this event ended in my untimely death, it was a good learning experience. It taught me that people who live in Del Perro and the Vespucci Canals are basically just targets for the city’s more well-off players. That’s what they get for settling for the second-most expensive apartment and an ugly turquoise dump.

Hawick

Players will need to throw on a virtual scarf if they want to kick up the heels of their virtual Converse in Hawick. The radical apartment pictured above is for hipsters only. No, it doesn’t turn its nose up at the bands you like or use mustache wax, but it’s crummy in a cool way and it has a sick half-pipe. Grand Theft Auto Online doesn’t have any skateboards, so people can’t relive their Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater glory days, but living in an apartment like this is just as much of a statement in this game as driving a hot pink supercar. Plus, the area is relatively cheap, so it’s a good choice for people who want to inject a little personality into their experience.

While I was in Hawick, I decided to take the Gameologicar up and down the halfpipe to see of I could pull off any sweet spins or backflips. I couldn’t, but while I was causing more damage to my once-proud automobile, another player showed up to see what I was up to. Rather than shoot me outright, though, he simply stood off to the side and pointed his rifle at me until I left. He could’ve easily killed me, but he chose not to. It’s almost as if he was “too cool” for senseless murder. What a hipster.

Rockford Hills

For the highest rolling of Grand Theft Auto Online’s high rollers, only the most unnecessarily expensive bullshit will do. That’s what Rockford Hills is for. It gives the rich kids in Los Santos a place where they can show off just how rich they are. The neighborhood’s Eclipse Towers apartment building sits at the top of a steep hill, overlooking all of the rancid scum of the game’s lower-level players, and it features the most expensive apartment in all of Los Santos. So what do these Scrooge McDucks get for their money? Well, did I mention the steep hill overlooking the rancid scum? Because that’s about it. Rockford Hills offers virtually no advantage whatsoever over the cheaper apartments, other than the fact that it’s a status symbol for the obscenely rich.

An interesting thing happens when people get rich in this game, though: They embrace the violence. Random shootings and bombings are significantly more common in the more affluent areas like Rockford Hills because the people who hang out there can afford the better weaponry. I experienced this firsthand when I visited the Eclipse Towers. As I drove past, a bikini-wearing player was standing outside, waiting to see what I would do. After determining that I wasn’t a threat, she took out a machine gun and unloaded a few hundred rounds into the side of my poor Gameologicar. I had done nothing to provoke her, but she still wasted ammo on ventilating my car. The reasoning for this is simple: She could afford to do it. That’s what makes a wealthy area like Rockford Hills such a good neighborhood for the people who play Grand Theft Auto Online like maniacs. They’ve put in the effort to buy the game’s best and most violent toys, so they’re going to take every opportunity they can to play with them.

Paleto Bay

A few recent updates to Grand Theft Auto Online have made some small-yet-important changes to how its real estate works. One introduced the ability to own multiple apartments, but that’s really just an expensive way for fat cats to own more than the 10 cars allowed by a single garage. A different update, though, added purchasable homes in Paleto Bay and Sandy Shores, the two other towns that make up Grand Theft Auto V’s world. The houses players can buy are small and ugly, but they offer something that none of the apartments in the city can match: peace. In the time I spent touring Paleto Bay—with its fabulous bank and lumber yard—I didn’t encounter any other players at all. Nobody tore past me running from the cops, nobody ran me down while I was taking a picture, and nobody dared put a scratch on my new-and-improved Gameologicar—which you can marvel at in the photo above.

However, the best part of this suburban patch of sanctuary is that Paleto Bay has all of the comforts of the more populated areas, including its own Los Santos Customs. If players choose to spend time in this small town, they could conceivably avoid ever having to deal with other players and just be free to explore the nearby mountain or drive their cars down the game’s facsimile of the Pacific Coast Highway. They’ll be mostly alone, sure, but they’re also safe. Nobody will be there constantly trying to kill them. That might not seem like the “right way” to play an online multiplayer game, but that’s the beauty of Grand Theft Auto Online’s diverse group of neighborhoods. If you find yourself in one that doesn’t fit how you want to play the game, move somewhere that does.

First person feels ridiculously immersive. Driving is crazy,
I love it but it's much harder then third person. Might stick to

I wasn't expecting it to look this good either. Got up to Trevor's opening mission last night, played it as a shooter which felt
brilliant.

The extra detail you see everywhere is astounding.

Dat immersion.

293554, Am I the only one that used the stock glitch?
Posted by Kira, Fri Nov-21-14 07:36 PM
Complete the Life Invader assasination and then invest all your money in the stock when it trades for $3, $4, or $5. Sell it anywhere above a 50 percent ROI. I bought some shares for around $3 and sold at $11. I made 500 million in one hour of doing this. It breaks the game a little bit but screw Rockstar for being so stingy with mission payouts.

Every character is close to a billionaire although I had to drain money buying all the properties. I have yet to complete all of the assasination missions except for the Betta Pharmaceuticals one. I only did that mission to get Franklin a mansion in the hills with a swimming pool.
293555, it's not a glitch but it's theo nly way to buy all the property
Posted by Nodima, Fri Nov-21-14 07:48 PM
I didn't know about the LifeInvader trick and never got around to doing the assassination schemes on PS3 (I did all the missions as they came up and invested in random stuff I forgot about until near the end of the game) but I'm following IGN's guide for PS4. Invested everything all three characters had right before the BettaPharm mission and am waiting until the end of the game when each character has 20-30million to do the rest and invest it all. I really wanted to own all the property on PS3 but all I ever bought was the airfield for Trevor and Smoke on the Water for Franklin.

not saying this is the case here, but it's the only thing i can think of. because the radio seems fine for me.

maybe i need to pay closer attention, though.

I don't have an optical speaker setup so I can't run my PS4 through my speakers like I could my PS3, but compared to listening to on my headphones through the speakers on last gen it doesn't sound as beefy. Everything sounds proper when it's running out of the TV's speakers but that's to be expected.

Posted by osu_no_1, Tue Nov-25-14 06:45 PM
I had to turn game sounds down and volume up to get the mix how I wanted

Then I'd play another game and damn near blow my speakers
293684, i was extremely irritated by that. i hope it's fixed in the PC version

293681, man I missed the $30 target deal by a day
Posted by osu_no_1, Tue Nov-25-14 06:47 PM
I had it in my car too, and decided not to go because I thought I'd be late for a party

So I went Sunday and it was over

Anyone got another good deal? I was hoping to find something for bf but not looking like anyone has anything on gta
293689, I don't play online, so would Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare be

293692, do you play couch co-op COD?

if so then it's cool. We rarely play online but we like to do waves in Exo Survival
293913, This game is too real
Posted by Starks dunked on Bulls, Tue Dec-09-14 06:31 PM
I started driving on an empty private golf course and my level got to 2 stars quick. I guess one of these uppity whites called the cops on me, smh.

And flying a plane is soooo hard at first. I like how it's simulated.

293914, Heads up, there are three endings (no spoilers)
Posted by topaz, Tue Dec-09-14 07:44 PM
The best & most obvious option is to pick C (you can view/play endings A & B afterwards in mission replays, and it won't affect anything), but if you pick A or B, you will have less postgame content and it's not reversable unless you have a manual save just before having to choose.
293931, you can also watch the A&B endings on youtube
Posted by Drizzit, Wed Dec-10-14 11:58 AM
it's what i did after finishing the game on PS3. didn't think about mission replays ... but, really, the A&B endings never made sense as a choice to me.
293943, That too
Posted by topaz, Wed Dec-10-14 06:12 PM
though the A & B scenarios combined aren't even half as long as C, so it wouldn't take too long to play through them. They weren't very interesting missions though.
293952, C is really the only way to go
Posted by spenzalii, Thu Dec-11-14 11:24 AM
If you want to be a dirtbag, pick A, and if you want to be a scumbag, pick B. We won't judge...
293963, ending discussion (spoilers, sort of)
Posted by Drizzit, Thu Dec-11-14 04:30 PM
was anyone else completely underwhelmed by the antagonist at the end of GTA5? i didn't finish GTA4, so i don't know how that one worked out, but GTA:SA had a great villian for CJ to play off of ... and he was there from the jump.

GTA5, i felt like the bad guy came in far too late and just didn't matter at all at the end of the main story. there were far bigger battles and meaner baddies to hang the game on, but they chose some non-descript movie producer/entertainment mogul? maybe i'm not recalling some other details, but i thought it was weak. guess we'll see how i feel on the second time through.
294098, to me Haynes was the bad guy more than anything.
Posted by Nodima, Thu Dec-25-14 08:57 PM
He antagonizes you for nearly the entire game and is teased from the very beginning (at least if you take the time to watch the TV).

But I would agree that there was no solid, standout villain, just a bunch of minor ones.

sorry, the game sold something like 30 million copies last year it's hard to keep in mind some people might've skipped it last gen.

the story isn't really the reason you're there for GTA V compared to the others in my opinion but I am sincerely sorry for the oversight, hopefully a mod will swing through and alter the post.

What a joyous experience. It presented all sorts of interesting
ethical and philosophical dilemmas, life decisions, and the
whole 9.

Story wasn't *great* but the characters were. Definitely dug
their development.

I'm at about 65% completion and so have LOTS of world left
to explore, but it was most important for me to get through
the campaign. I have no desire to get to 100%, as I have other
games to get to, but I'll poke around a bit.

I think the open world bug has bitten me. I have MGSV and Witcher
3 on deck.

298679, So anything new or noteworthy on this?
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Jan-12-16 07:46 PM
I was sure we'd have an Episodes DLC by the point but that doesn't seem to be the case. Seems like a ton of material to mine for add on story missions. I’d be much more interested in exploring more of the story characters that than additional online gimmicks. To be fair it’s been about a year since I touched online play so who knows.
298715, GTA 6 will be on PS5 and XBOX2...

I certainly hope so...I just got back into playing it these last few weeks and remember why I had to stop...it's too damn addictive...lol

I'm curious to see what comes next for this franchise though
303237, Red Dead is dropping this year. I think it's minimum two years
Posted by Nodima, Tue Jan-16-18 08:05 PM
Until a new GTA. Yea, it's been four and a half years since GTA V dropped but they haven't released a game since GTA V due to the popularity of GTA Online, and I think the only way the ramp up production on GTA VI is if RDR2 somehow doesn't meant expectations with whatever its similar online mode is.

I think the days of Rockstar hitting you with a constant drip of products is in the past; they want to use these giant open worlds as platforms to drop DLC on you in the online mode. If I felt like those modes worked that'd be one thing but I have no idea how people have fun with GTA Online other than the obvious screwing around with friends aspect.

that are getting better and better (Watch Dogs, etc)

The DLC keeps the cash popping, everyone is entertained

https://www.techspot.com/news/73574-gta-6-rumored-arrive-2022-setting-return-vice.html

Normally I'd say this was coming out on the next console generation.
But with the way things are going, these systems might run that long.

Or maybe not.
303404, With Red Dead coming in late 18, this sounds about right
Posted by mrshow, Wed Mar-07-18 01:19 PM
303407, Right.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Wed Mar-07-18 07:02 PM
Wasn't the news I wanted to hear, but I get it.

Rockstar holds all the cards. GTA is one of those games that sells systems.
They can take as long as they want.
