I'm with you, I think one of the things that's made the 80s and 90s such a memorable time for gaming is that everything came on a cart, and as long as the batteries in those carts are running we can still boot most of those games up whenever we want, wherever we want. Sure, a lot of people emulate but if you really want to go have the authentic Act Raiser experience, it's out there for you. Goldeneye was still huge on my college campus and I didn't start school until fall of 2007 - that's ten years after the game came out! Let's see ANYONE playing the original Modern Warfare by 2016 - heck, right now.

How is someone going to be able to get nostalgic about Massive Action Game or Doritos Crash Course 2? Or, less jokingly, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, or the Mass Effect series?

I'd like to think this isn't a doomsday scenario and eventually gaming hardware will have reached a point where bring the original, non-emulated versions of these games over to digital marketplaces won't be a huge deal, but this generation was already pretty precarious when it came to making games that will last 30 years like a Galaga cabinet or a Super Mario Bros. cart. All this DRM makes next-gen look even shakier.
