278577, gotta say it again...PLAYSTATION PLUS, MAN
Posted by Nodima, Mon Dec-10-12 07:02 PM
It's been kind of slow on major games for a while (unless you always wanted to play Borderlands...I don't care much for FPS), but the past two weeks? Look, I'm broke, so I really try not to spend money on games unless I just NEED to play something...hence buying basically Rockstar and NBA 2K games only since I got a PS3.

But you're telling me if I pay just $50 a year, I'll have already played Outland, Renegade Ops, and INfamous 2 for free, replayed Infamous 1 for free, gotten Uncharted 1 + 2 in a $20 bundle, Portal 2 for $6, Borderlands, Warhammer 40K, Virtua Fighter 5 Final and Just Cause 2 for free, and NOW, in the past 2-3 weeks

you're letting me grab Resident Evil 5 for free, which I never would have played on my own because of the co-op foundation (and coincidentally as a friend dusts off his Gamecube for marathon runs of RE0-4 that I'm guiding him through?), Bioshock 2 for free (coincidentally as I'm planning to finally play Bioshock in the next few weeks) and, starting tomorrow, Street Fighter IV: Arcade for free? I haven't played a Street Fighter since II Turbo (maybe some arcade Alpha), but how am I supposed to turn down the best 2D fighter maybe ever for NO charge?

Like everyone else with PS+, or casual observers, I'm fucking amazed at what this service has turned into. My $50 in, like, March, has quickly translated to like $500-$600 in spending I didn't have to fret over. And I totally accept that I lose these games if I stop paying the fee, because even if they fall off on the big deals for a while it's already like four years before I start losing on the investment.

but GOOD

Glad to see Sony getting off the ball and giving people more worth from their yearly subscription. Microsoft has been sitting on their laurels for too damn long with Xbox live... crossgame chat only goes so far. This is the type of shit that would genuinely get me to consider getting the premium service (I'd still need a PS3, but that's beside the point).

Glad to see Sony giving MS some serious competition in this area.
278583, in terms of free content, I have to admit they got 360 beat
Posted by Lach, Mon Dec-10-12 08:36 PM
Like dude was saying it's like every week they're giving away a free game. 360 might do that twice a year.
278584, and Littl Big Planet 2's been on there foreeeever

maybe it got taken down recently, but it's been long, long running

I just don't want to dedicate the hard drive space to it.

I feel you on dedicating HD space. I have a 60, and I'm constantly trying to conserve, while my girlfriend has a 300 and stays downloading random shit and forgetting about it. Hell, I even have a few games that I've downloaded onto her console that I only play while I'm over there.

I will say, on conserving space and PS+ "free" games, if you have the room at all, it's worth downloading them and deleting them if you don't have the space. That way, when they're not free anymore, you still have them in your library to download whenever you please.
278891, Yea I do that but those download times....

Damn, that's news to me... I want free shit.
278586, It's not "free"
Posted by jorge123, Mon Dec-10-12 08:42 PM
It's like paying for Netflix except with a selection that is whittled down to like 20 titles per year instead of thousands.

It's good for certain people, but like you mentioned it offered games that you didn't even want to play...isn't that a waste of your money?

I was thinking about getting it for Vita, but I realized I only play like 2 or 3 games per year and I know pretty much exactly what I want.
278601, Netflix is about $100/yr, Gamefly about $200/yr
Posted by Nodima, Tue Dec-11-12 10:31 AM
This is $50, and you have access to these games for as long as you have the subscription. Again, having saved around $4-500 by my estimation in just 8 months, even if I never register a free game again, it'd be 10 years before I spend on PS+ what I would have spent just this year alone.

My point wasn't that I didn't want to play the games I got, my point was that I didn't want to spend $60 on them. Spending more than $10 on anything just FEELS like burning money to me. But again, these $50 have already paid for themselves for years.

Also, there's the discounts and the one-hour free trials of a bunch of games.

You're right. It isn't. But considering the free games I've played with it, and some of the discounts I've gotten, it certainly is worth it. It's also kind of one of those things that definitely isn't for everybody. If the selection of "free" and discounted games isn't for you, then it won't be worth it. But if you can even get a couple of them, it's worth getting.

It is shotofest right now online. I played Ken/Ryu/Evil Ryu AT LEAST 15 of 20 or so fights just now. Ridiculous. I pretty much want to turn my game off every time the other person selects Ryu. Its gotten that bad for me..I just hate that mofo..I hate the character, the punk ass way most folks play him, the combos Capcom allow him: light SRK --> super Hado --> ultra Hado...I mean...really Capcom? Fuck the fuck off Capcom, and don't start me on the priority of some of his stupidly safe offense. If it doesn't outright win, it probably ties, and you know what's up if you tie with Ryu...that's right, ultra time! And I'm rage killing controllers (plural) via footballish anger spike (again). I'm almost at Latimer levels of damage over here. And don't start me on the 1 combo of doom over and over again characters like Sakura and Ibuki. Or the turtle power niggas. Or Gief's reach. Or...ahhh! All of this = I gotta let it go for a while.

278755, Let's not forget KOFXIII is free as well.

I'm getting PS+ this week for the following:

SFIV AE
KOF XIII
Little Big Planet 2
Infamous 2
Bioshock 2
Ratchet&Clank All 4 One
Pay Day: The Heist

There's a few others I saw but those 7 alone are well worth $50. Of course, that says nothing of the discounts on a ton of other games. I wouldn't play or buy any but the first two otherwise, but then I rarely buy games.

I was trying to find the Uncharted soundtracks, I have no idea where the hell they are now. U3 has like a million add-ons, and you scroll down TWO items at a time, it's ridiculous. I used to randomly browse the PSN to see what was new or what was on sale, now I don't even want to open the stupid thing.

Posted by Nodima, Wed Dec-19-12 05:54 PM
Add-ons are always tucked under the game itself so they're not that hard to find. I definitely thought it was fine (and faster, and you could use the XMB while looking at it) before but I'm not mad at the new version. Search engine was a little stupid initially but the autocomplete is definitely a nice touch and, like with Netflix's app, helps me stumble across some interesting stuff I wasn't specifically searching for.

New PlayStation 3 content
We’re very happy to announce that from 6th February for one month, you can download the awesome Sleeping Dogs.
This action adventure game from our friends at Square Enix takes you deep into the violent criminal underworld of vibrant, neon-lit Hong Kong. You’ll assume the role of Wie Shen, an undercover cop looking to take down the Triads from the inside. You’ll have to prove yourself worthy as you fight your way up the organisation, taking part in brutal criminal activities without blowing your cover.
Critics worldwide agree it’s a top-tier open-world action title – make sure you grab this while it’s available!

generally those Europe-first things tend to come to us late.

I can only hope, anyway. But having just got Machinarium and Psychonauts for a total of $5 I'm good on games for a minute. Plus I've been pecking away at my free copy of Just Cause 2 ever since it came out, still not halfway done it says. And they gave us Mega Man 9 and 10.

I really want to try Sleeping Dogs though. Shame setting up a Euro account would be foolish.

The Newest PlayStation Plus Perks Revealed
Plus, get a great deal on a PS+ subscription.
by Colin Moriarty JANUARY 28, 2013

Sony has revealed the newest PlayStation Plus perks for North America. (You can go to our earlier story here for the newest European-centric perks.)

Starting on Tuesday, January 29th, users will be able to download Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus for PlayStation Vita free of charge. Madden 13 on both PS3 and Vita will be 30% off. And the PSN games Gatling Gears, Section 8: Prejudice and Greed Corp will all be 50% off.

Additionally, Sony has announced that if you purchase a new one-year PlayStation Plus subscription between now and March 4th, you will get an extra three months free of charge (for 15 months total). Keep in mind that subscriptions can be stacked, so you don’t have to wait until you’re about to run out if you want to take advantage of the offer.

Sony also revealed an interesting statistic that we’ll leave you with in closing. For a one year $50 PlayStation Plus account in 2012, users could have saved as much as $2,472 on free and discounted games, DLC and more. That’s nearly 50 times the cost of the subscription.

The idea of it saving all this money is true, to a degree. I've saved about $100 because I would have bought several of the games I've downloaded for free. It also allows me to play a ton of games I probably wouldn't have paid for, so it's not saving me much in that regard.

So while I agree it's misleading to say you've saved $2500 or whatever, that's still an amazing dollar value.

280027, new free game up. Guardians of Middle Earth

I've downloaded so many free games over the last few months that my 500gb drive is down to 130.
280251, you must have instaled a diff memory card
Posted by final_prospect82, Fri Feb-15-13 03:28 AM
I have a 500 GB memory card but all my game day is on the stock memory. Haven't tried figuring out how I can move everything over to the new one yet
280266, All I did about 4 years ago was
Posted by Lach, Fri Feb-15-13 08:22 PM
bought a new 500 sata laptop hard drive
took my 1tb fat 32 formatted external hard drive and connected to my ps3
ran the ps3 backup utility to back up everything to the external
took the ps3's stock hard drive out and replaced it with the new 500gb joint
reconnected the external hard drive and ran the restore feature
any games that didn't come over, I just went to my downloads list on the ps store and re-downloaded

that's it. though now I'm down to about 100gb of space on that 500gb drive.
280269, did it save your game data, playlists, etc?
Posted by final_prospect82, Fri Feb-15-13 10:33 PM
280277, took everything except some game saves
Posted by Lach, Sat Feb-16-13 11:41 AM
Some game saves are restricted when it comes to copying like Street Fighter 4. If you have PS Plus, I'd recommend using the cloud feature to back up your game saves. I wish they had that 4 years ago. Would've saved me some heartburn.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/03/sleeping-dogs-free-for-playstation-plus-users

Sleeping Dogs is one of the great sleeper hits of the entire console generation (get it?), and if you’re a North American PlayStation Plus user, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the open-world sandbox game will be completely free beginning on May 7th.

Word comes from the PlayStation Blogcast, which also revealed that Pinball Arcade, Knytt Underground and Vita’s BlazBlue will also be free at some point during the month of May.

glad it's finally over here.

I hated Spec Ops honestly, it just stunk so much as a game to me that I didn't even want to play it on Easy. I'm glad they ended up putting it out for free because as the price kept creeping down I felt a growing itch to buy it.

they dont list dates when they will come out but we are getting the following this month

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Machinarium, Saints Row: The Third, Orc Attack (vita) and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward (vita). also the yearly games of Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, inFAMOUS 2 and LittleBigPlanet 2 all go away on june 11th and will be replaced by other games (not sure if 3 or less/more).

just from talk it seems like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is almost a lock to be one of the new yearly games, there is a rumor uncharted 3 as well

as long as you download it and you are a plus member you can play it and as far as i understand if you stop plus and then get it again you can redownload it and play it again. but if you never bothered to download it before it leaves then once its gone you are out of luck.

in fact you dont have to fully download a title some games i think i might want to try out in the future but not use the hard drive space now. so just start the download and after it downloads like at least 1% cancel the download and if you view it it will say purchased and you can always grab it later.

Posted by Nodima, Tue Jun-04-13 04:31 PM
it just has to be a confirmed purchase. As long as you "purchase" the license while it's free, you can download at any time. I got Street Fighter IV the day it came available but didn't download any of it until last month because I just didn't have the hard drive space.

284354, Are these games forever free...
Posted by wallysmith, Fri Jun-28-13 05:11 PM
or do they an expiration date where you can't "buy" them anymore?
284356, they usually expire 1-3 months after they get put on
Posted by Nodima, Fri Jun-28-13 05:59 PM
any given month there's usually 5 - 7 free games, sometimes those slots are taken by Vita games or there are just a lot of games.

however they are not super-strict about acquiring the games - if you checkout a game while it's free on PS+, it's yours to download whenever you're subscribed to PS+ whether you download it immediately or not. The only restriction is being a current subscriber - if you let it lapse, as I did the past 3 days, you get redirected to the store's subscription page whenever you try to play.

so if you weren't subscribed at the time these games were slotted, no, you can't get them later. Bioshock 2, Just Cause 2, inFamous, inFamous 2, and so on won't be in your IGC if you subscribed today.

but you don't have to DL them right away. you just have to express intent to play. and then they're available forever (assuming you're prepared to sacrifice three+ hours of PS3-power to downloading the game)

not sure but they stumbled onto something good and with the ps4 plus is also bundled to online play which means even more people will have it (although i don't see why people don't already have it) so i think it will continue to be worth it.

The point of video recording being free is console owners don't have to buy an online services subscription if they don't want to.

THAT'S A HARDWARE FUNCTION SO IT SHOULD WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY AN ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION.

Don't even get me started on the absurdity of having to pay for XBL in order to use a web browser.

There are over 25 million Xbox owners without live. That number must be higher for PSN. Therefore, THIS SHIT IS A BIG FUCKING DEAL. LoL at selling points of Xbox One being hidden behind a pay wall.

at least when it comes to larger enemies. I've always wanted to do something like that again...but I'm actually playing the HD Remake right now, so

hopefully the word of a pretty empty world and long runtime don't discourage me. I've been scared of RPGs all generation, FF12 was the last one I loved and this looks KIND OF like that too?

also, it's a bit of a bummer I know how the game ends thanks to the Bombcast. But I'd like to see that for myself, it sounds legitimately fresh.

I didn't feel like making a new thread or writing a new review, but I just finished this via Playstation Plus and had some thoughts.

-- At first the shooting feels pretty bad, but by the time you've upgraded your accuracy, damage and health it slowly turns into a really fun shooting game. A lot of the robot destruction made me imagine (what I've seen of) Knack (via internet media) with some true creativity to it.

--So good that most of the distraction moments end up feeling even more boring than they are. I hated all the on-rails car sections, and failed ALL of the random "press O in the purple bar" QTEs 7 or 8 times before landing them.

--A lot of what I was responding to positively weren't objectively good things. The dialogue was terrible, a lot of the direction was frustratingly anime-like in execution and the voice acting was pretty stiff. I often felt like I was playing a Sci-Fi Original or blaxploitation game.

--Still, there were moments of actual brilliance. Most of the Hollow Children designs were great, as were all the scenes involving an exposed A.I. And the game was very smartly paced, even if I could tell early on we were swiftly moving on only to situations more ludicrous than the last. If they'd decided to commit to being an action game rather than an action-RPG, I can imagine a much better overall game being here. The length feels just right for the gameplay, but five-ten hours too short for the failed attempt at building characters or creating player agency.

--This game reminded me of the PS2 era in terms of how it controlled, how I felt confused about certain actions (randomly switching the mantle action to O instead of ^+X, never figuring out remote bombs), how very Japanese the storytelling felt...In a weird way, it felt like a nostalgia play even having never played it before.

--I'd like to see a sequel, but Binary Domain couldn't help but feel like a mimic of its betters (specifically Mass Effect and Blade Runner) and how often it made me laugh at its absurdity didn't always win out over how frustrating a few scenarios were. I didn't expect to breeze through this game as quickly as I did (4 or 5 days, mostly over the last two days) so I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it, but without the robots or the interesting canonical backbone, I'd feel weird recommending this to anyone who likes this style of game but has no idea what "feels like a PS2-era video game developed in Japan with modern western trends super-glued on top in what almost feels like a satire-like fashion" means.

Give it time. LOL
288050, GRID 2 is fucking legit!
Posted by Nodima, Fri Dec-13-13 06:53 PM
Granted, like a lot of games I think my love for it in part stems from the fact I basically only play the big Sony-exclusives and PS+ games at this point, and haven't owned a racing game this entire generation (I really wanted Burnout Paradise for a long while but never pulled the trigger) as a result, but MAN. I loved to play the rally part of the DIRT demo over and over again back when I owned a fatty PS3 and no games, and I think I rented a few of the McRae games, but somehow I forgot how fun Codemasters makes driving cars.

I've heard people complain about how these cars drive but as someone who loves and compares GTA's driving to this (note: GRID 2 is much tighter, but they have a similar philosophy I believe) I was hooked pretty much from race two. The game's not very hard on Normal, I've lost maybe four times through the first two seasons of career mode, but I do come in 2nd-4th fairly frequently on at least one champion's series race so I'm sure it's about to ramp up in China.

I get that this wouldn't be a car game without a bunch of good-looking cars, but at each level it seems like one car is clearly better than the rest, so I don't feel very encouraged to change cars around. What I REALLY like though is how different all the cars feel. I pick the BMW 3 Series over the MB E-Class for VERY specific reasons even though on paper and physically they appear nearly identical in-game.

And the way physics works itself out over the terrain is spectacular. Again, other than random time with some demos, free game trials and friends' houses I can't think of a racing game I've played regularly since Gran Turismo 3, so that colors it. But I really can't remember a game that cared so much about the how, where and what of a race course. The little dips and rivets in the road coming in and out of turns, the way different cars' suspension and handling accepts and reacts to the subtle imperfections of the road, especially at 130mph+ speeds into rapid deceleration, is just awesome. There's not much incentive to try out all the different cars, but hitting a corner I've come to know well in a brand new car gives me a little rush I can't really describe.

Lastly, it's beautiful, but being a car game it'd almost be a surprise if it wasn't. They've done a good job of making you feel powerfully in control of some really great cars, and toe the line between arcade racer and sim perhaps better than anything I've ever seen, mostly having Need for Speed: Underground and Gran Turismo as my comparisons. At its core it's just a dumb, pretty real-cars, no-weapons Mario Kart essentially, tapping then brake just right to get the best drifts around large corners and jumping to the head of the pack. But there are enough subtle mechanics going on to suck in people looking for a slightly more nuanced driving game, and again even though I haven't found it especially difficult, I also think their (seemingly scripted) driving lines make for a pretty great level of tension as I'm rarely able to get into first place before the penultimate or final lap of any race.

This game is just good dumb fun, and they spice the career mode up with a lot of variety between each race and season so it's hard to get bored. I'd definitely say anyone with PS+ should grab a copy of this as quick as you can, though.

they had a killer bundle for both 2 and 3 GOTY editions for just $40 total on PS+ earlier in the spring, and I think at one point the original was like $5 or something? Finally had a chance to play all of them over the summer and it was a great thrill ride, though I found out I'm one of the few people that thought the games got exponentially better each time around. I hate the last couple hours of both 1 and 2 so much, man. Notched them down to Easy to finish, unlike 3 which I loved so much I immediately went back and played it on Hard.

edit: also, compared to how elegant the digital Last of Us is (only game on PS3 that offers a compressed installer, and only PS3 game that allows the game to begin before it's 100% installed...around 65% I think) it was pretty amazing how bonkers the UC3 stuff is. Gigabytes and gigabytes of language files, the cutscenes are a separate 20GB file from the main game, multiplayer is a separate file because of the whole free-to-play thing...buying UC3 digitally will fuck a PS3 hard drive up QUICK lmao.

I've been monitoring Bio: Infinite for a while now, waiting till it drops to $5 to scoop it up, but I've only seen it dip as low as $7.50 on the various download sites. On top of that DMC just hit Steam's daily deals right now at $12.49, so the speed at which PSN is putting out these free games is mighty impressive indeed.

288213, RE: These are HIGHLY competitive deals.
Posted by Nodima, Thu Dec-26-13 02:22 PM
I don't imagine Sony would ever advertise this way (due to the roster changing every week among other things), but they could sell a PS3 with a three-month pass to PS+ as a bundle and say, "Here's your PS3 with GRID 2, Bioshock Infinite, Dyad, Borderlands 2, Devil May Cry, Brothers, Binary Domain, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, included at no additional charge once you've activated your PSN account."

It's a bit of a shame the marketing on PS+ isn't going even harder, I still haven't met anyone in real life who's heard of the service (other than my one friend with a PS4, who hadn't realized he needed it to play online when he bought it and sold his PS3 towards the PS4 so isn't currently seeing the benefit).

Did you do 5400 RPM? It seems like advice varies on whether I should stay with that speed or if going faster is a good look. The longer I think about it, the more ridiculous I'm thinking about going. Certainly 1 TB should be enough to carry me through all of the PS+ downloads I've cycled through and the last ones that are coming before they taper off, right?

AKA I think I'm gonna cop a hard drive and get my swap on. This will be my first nerdy system activity since I changed my PS2 to a top-loader in order to play the 'last' Fire Pro Wrestling. Of course, they released it in the US a year or so after that, but whatever...I was ballin!

The instructions I've read suggest that I'm copying certain files to a thumb drive, disconnecting the old 120 HDD, connecting the new (500 GB - 1 TB) HDD, and downloading stuff from the network again. Is that about it?

Jimaveli
288233, definitely play it safe and stick to 5400 RPM
Posted by IkeMoses, Fri Dec-27-13 04:39 PM
that's what Sony recommends and they probably have good reason for it. i don't believe there's any performance boost with 7200 RPM drives anyway.

1 TB will be more than enough. average game size is like 15GB (early games be like 7 or 8 gigs, late first party games top out around 25 gigs). You can easily put 60 full retail games on a terabyte. that's being conservative. like i said, i got a smaller drive with close to 80 games: half AAA, half downloadable.

>The instructions I've read suggest that I'm copying certain
>files to a thumb drive, disconnecting the old 120 HDD,

if you have an external hard drive larger than 120 (or whatever the size is of the stuff you have on your ps3 now), you can transfer everything over to your new HDD without having to re-download.

>It's a great system and has so many games I haven't touched.
>Got back into Infamous 2 just yesterday.

I've restored all of the stuff I had on my 120 gb hard drive. I'm now dl'ing a grip of games I had on my system at one time or another. Shiiiid...this is probably the best library of games I've ever had on 1 system. And I missed stuff cuz I wasn't smart enough to just grab free/discounted stuff when it was available and download later.

A few more notes on hard drive swap that I didn't see everywhere:
- from a computer...download the latest system software update in a folder called PS3/UPDATE on a thumb drive or a fat32-format external hard drive. You'll need it when you start the system with your brand new hard drive.
- after you're up an running with your files after doing a system backup --> restore, be sure to activate your system (psn, account management, system activation) so you can play ps+ games, access your cloud saves, etc.
- until you switch out, don't pull a me...get discounted/free games in the ps store even if you don't/can't dl them right then. The store keeps a list of games you've purchased so you can go back to that list and easily dl stuff later/again/etc. I'm doing this right now and realizing that I could've had even more ish right now.

Jimaveli: still a little gamer left in me.

288227, As long as your a subscriber you can play games.

its a Games as a Service, SaaS if you will. Keep paying and you can play. I have like 30 games queued up that I don't have storage for. I need a 1TB+ HDD.
288240, so the games never disappear?
Posted by budz4zo, Fri Dec-27-13 09:42 PM
as long as I'm a subscriber, I get to download all the current and past games offered through PS+?

What if I download and install them then cancel PS+? Not that I would but what happens to games after you install them?

once you download them or add them to your cart in the online store they are yours as long as you subscribe to ps plus. if you subscription runs out you can't play them until you renew. you cant download past ps+ games if they are gone they are gone and you missed out.

DmC is this week, so I might guess they hold off on Infinite for the last week of the month.

edit: actually I think I got Thomas Was Alone in a humble bundle to get Hotline Miami on my Mac, I just have a hard time remembering because I only use my computer to play Civilization IV, Hotline Miami and emulators.

Posted by wallysmith, Thu Jan-16-14 03:42 PM
But I honestly think this is part of a brilliant strategy by Sony... it's been long established that the PS brand is stronger overseas, but the massive US market is owned by Xbox.

So what's the best way to combat this? Accessible hardware, cheaper price point, and more games. And a better emphasis on online features (that Gaikai acquisition is looming large now). They were never going to compete with the dominant multiplayer marketshare Xbox enjoys (and what appeals most to Western gamers) through conventional means so they're competing elsewhere: with more games.

It's easily the most tangible sense of value to the consumer if they can constantly have new content with just the console and a PSN subscription, and cheap (or free) content is a big reason why PC gaming is actually on the rise right now... Steam gained a staggering 10m new users in the past 3 months (a major 15% increase).

Ultimately, we're all gamers, and the more games we have in our hands the happier we are. Good on Sony for dropping all their old stodgy traditions and embracing that fully.

288708, i wasn't dissing XBL, i'm just saying Plus is way better

I guess the network gets a little screwy on update day. I had Enslaved and the Wolf Among Us season pass in my cart all week along with Limbo and Blood Dragon until this morning when I decided to drop the latter two, but I had to add funds to buy the first two so after putting $20 on my wallet it erases the two games from my cart.

Luckily when I went to the online store it let me add the Wolf Among Us pass for $13.49 still, but the web store tells me I'm not authorized to purchase either of the other three and the PS3 keeps telling me there's an error. I still have $5 in my wallet so I know it hasn't taken any money, but still a real bummer. I've always heard really interesting things about Enslaved.

I wonder if anything good will come up for $5 or less soon.

Yeah I know I'm late but it was free and I heard about how good it was. Although kinda short I absolutely loved it. Even made a brotha kinda emotional. The controls were great seeing as you control two people at once. This was just all around enjoyable.

On another note. I'm a xbox person, just my system of preference. However, the deals on PSN shits on live in every single way.

Gonna play through a few things I've missed and it offers it to me free just for being a PSN subscriber. In about a year or two I hope they offer up many great titles on the PS4 as well.

when it comes to combat and it fails at that. The controls are wonky and strange. The design and the world are interesting but its all so meh. No wonder this company had to file for the French equivalent of bankruptcy.

Just beat Metro Last Light last night (protip: shoot the wheels) that was fun. Decent story, shooting mechanics and good graphics. I like well made apocalyptic games and 4A games made something cool. Probably won't see another one of these in while because of the situation in Ukraine.

Posted by Scarface_7, Tue Feb-18-14 11:08 AM
RE: Payback 2: Pretty awesome. Would've stayed away but its free, so.... Anyway. I hate not feeling really connected to the game. After starting out in the safehouse, shit has been explained awful poor. Also, living in DC and a map of my hood coming up FREAKED ME THE FUCK OUT guess it just takes place here? Still----> after installing at like 2 am after a night of inebriants this was one of my weirdest game experiences EVER. How do I change guns as well???? Could really use a tutorial. Also, I really miss some Player 2 action, Fuck all this connect to random strangers on the net. The mic system sony has in place is a mystery to me....

A general PS3, question: My 5 year old mistakenly deleted the game save for Lego Marvel SuperHeroes from the HD. I have the overnight auto game save thing uploading to the cloud but how do I get it back?? We were 80.1% done we are both rather devastated, I dont want this to be my kids personal metroid, I'm like we just gotta do it again....but if I could save us four weeks of bonding time I would so take a shortcut! HELP

Lastly, Kingdoms of Amalur is AWESOMENESS. Not really into RPGs (AT ALL) but this is a right good button masher, fake rpg with overly dorky tones that I appreciate---I could use a horse though! Why the fuck am I walking (I know I could 'Fast travel' but lame) everywhere? Addicted to blacksmithing and alchemy mixing....

what youse suggested... its not there! I cant call it. I am certain both my wife and I werent having flashbacks and that we were 80% thru. Now thinking the kid didnt even do it, perhaps its a hardware issue? I Did dl The Walking Dead Season 2 last week and every time it installs it just disappears like nothings happened.... have no idea. Telltale gonna come up off my five bucks though
289146, I think the default setting for uploading to the cloud is No.
Posted by Nodima, Mon Feb-24-14 10:23 AM
so if you just thumbed through that when you first launched the game that could be the problem.

Posted by Scarface_7, Sun Mar-16-14 02:54 PM
I have a fat boy 80 gig that the disc drive doesnt work in anymore. Moved on to my slim one, never had a problem. After moving though, I updated the fat boy thinking games I already downloaded as a Playstation Plus member I could just re-do on the fat boy. But now I cant finish DMC on my slim? I'm like WTF? Is it cuz my email is logged into two PS3s? Even when I log outta the fat boy and go downstairs and fire up the slim I get "This content is expired"

Do I need to call Sony (really not trying to be on the phone for 50-11 hours)?

I thought as long as you were a playstation plus member certain games (if you dl'd them when they were out) would always be playable? Why cant I share b/t my two playstations? Any help would be good cuz my kids are getting on MY NERVES!
289490, If you're still a PS plus member and only sharing w/ 2 systems...
Posted by Lach, Sun Mar-16-14 04:27 PM
you should be good. Not sure why it's telling you it's expired. When you login with the same ID that you used to originally download the game with it should extend the expiration date of the game to when your PS Plus subscription is going to end. I do this with my kids right now since between the two of them only my son has PS Plus. What I do is download a game on my son's system and then login with his ID on my daughter's system and download the same game and it has the same expiration date for the content as on my son's system.

Skullgirls Encore (PS3)
Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (PS3)
Surge Deluxe (PSV)
Limbo (PSV)

never heard of the PS4 game, have to look it up. Puppeteer looked like a game that's cool to look at for 15 minutes and then annoying as shit the rest of the time. Skullgirls...is Skullgirls. Haven't owned a soccer game since Winning Eleven 8 so I have a soft spot for Pro Evo but even if the basic game stacks up to FIFA still I'm just not sure I want to waste the hard drive space. And I don't own a Vita so the decision to do the Vita version of Limbo instead of PS3 is a bumme, but at least it'll be one of the better games I have stowed away in my account history in case I ever stumble into more money and decide a Vita's what that money's for.

Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

curious to see how different the PS3 version was from the PS4 in terms of features and menus and what not, because the PS4 really dropped the ball there even though it all sounded really fresh and new pre-release.

and I've always been curious about Trine/Trine 2.

290908, Here's to hoping July's offering is better.
Posted by MiQL, Tue Jun-24-14 12:54 PM
I'm not familiar w/ what's listed.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/ps-plus-free-games-ps4-july-accidentally-revealed-by-sony-1453759

The PlayStation Asia website updated their 'Coming Soon' section of PlayStation Plus a little earlier than usual, according to a new report. The updated information detailed the free games that would be out with the service in July 2014.

Even though they were removed shortly after being updated, the information was grabbed by NowGamer and several users on Reddit. The free games for the PS4 PlayStation Plus were detailed as TowerFall: Ascension and Strider.

Owing to the fact that PS4 PlayStation Plus free games have been identical between North America, Europe, and Asia until now, there is a very good chance that we'll see TowerFall: Ascension and Strider go free in North America (July 1st) and Europe (July 2nd).

TowerFall: Ascension is a game that was originally released on the Ouya console, before making its way to PS4 and PC in March 2014. Strider happens to be a side-scrolling platform game from Capcom and developed by the Killer Instinct team Double Helix Games.

However, the report does not rule out the possibility that Sony might be changing its policy of serving up different free games in different regions worldwide.

Back in June, gamers enjoyed an indie-themed update with the likes of Trine 2 and Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate. It appears as though Sony is once again going to offer more indie games with the PS Plus July 2014 update on the PS4.

In other PS4 news, IB Times UK recently had a look at some of the most thrilling games coming to the PS4 in the coming months, making it one of the most exciting consoles to own during this time. Read all about it here.

When the PS4 dropped PS+ was droppin some gems on us big time. PS3 got some great free games and we also got Resogun and Outlast which were huge on the PS4. Just made it seem so appealing. Created a heavy buzz like not only did you have a powerful system (pc master race laughs at this) but you get all these great games. Then BAM. Nothing.

Now granted you can't just drop AAA titles for free all the time, but lately they've all been butt. I'm not even thinking about PS+ that much anymore and I find my multiplayer experience to be better on Xbox.
290942, Yeah BUT
Posted by jetblack, Fri Jun-27-14 12:37 PM
they are pushing indies heavily but I see what you mean.
290947, yeah the novelty of "what's the free game this month" has worn off
Posted by Lach, Fri Jun-27-14 06:33 PM
I can't play another game like Chuck's Downslide Expedition. I'm like you now. I'm barely turning my PS4 on these days. Once again the Xbox community is drawing me in. It'll be something if Microsoft manages to flip this whole free games thing on Sony by offering better known games for free on Xbox One. I have a feeling something like Crimson Dragon will be free next month.
290968, PS3's PS+ had the benefit of time
Posted by Nodima, Sun Jun-29-14 01:40 PM
it's still hard to name games you'd have a PS4 for unless you're a geek. everything I own on the PS4 except inFamous might to run better, look better or have the same features, but I could have bought it on a PS3 or gotten a pretty similar if not better product on a PC. Watch Dogs, MGSV, Fez, NBA 2K14, Sportsfriends, Trials Fusion. Hell, NBA 2K14 was just free on PS+ last month for PS3.

When PS+ launched for PS3 it was just about worthless before the PSN blackout, which moved them to come back with inFamous and Little Big Planet for free with a free 3 month trial afterward. It was cool to get the classic Sonic games on a Playstation system (and looking back it's actually kind of interesting what I missed out on at the time, like Far Cry 2 or SSFII:HD Remix) but when they put inFamous up it real suddenly felt different.

Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2, Virtua Fighter V, Warhammer Space Marine and the sequels to those first party titles were still on the way. And from there it was just sort of on; big budget series', high profile indies, everything showed up. But they had to have that library first. The PS4 is still pretty much a system for people that want to see its potential; it can't even stream video from your PC yet, and if you still own a stereo sound system you can't plug your speakers in, making Netflix/Hulu/HBO (not on PS4 anyway) more enjoyable on a PS3.

I'm still enjoying what I get out of it, and I think they'd have to do a lot worse (or Microsoft will have to do a lot better) for the $50 a year ask to be anything painful. But it's not going to be great until the system's great and its library's way bigger. The ultimate value for PS+ is for somebody who doesn't buy very many games, I hope they keep that mindset now that the subscription is built in to the cost of practically every PS4.

I bought Fez on a deep discount a while back, all three platforms for $6 or something. So I'm fine not getting it for free. Not sure where my interest lies in the others, I never played a Crysis game but Crysis 3 probably isn't a big deal.

Right around the time people start copping for Christmas, all the way through the first couple of months after people own their new Christmas present PS3/PS4s.

Sign em up with loads of hot shit. Spend money when people are copping. Slow down when they're not.

But for me? Homey I never even got around to Borderlands 2. I got Tomb Raider, Arkham City, Thomas Was Alone...all kindsa shit I haven't even played yet built up from when they were going hard earlier this year.

those are great games if you don't have them yet, though.
294505, wonder if the other two indie games they had during the summer will come
Posted by Nodima, Thu Jan-29-15 07:27 PM
I bought Rogue Legacy and Hohokum when they came out, then bought The Swapper when it was on sale for $7 over Christmas (kind of annoying it became free literally the week after that sale but it was worth the money) but haven't really seen the potential of Counter-Spy. Seems more likely that and Hohokum would become PS+ games sometime this year now.

Think I might be about done getting games on my PS3, I bought some indie stuff with the 10% discount during last week's flash sale like Tokyo Jungle but haven't even thought to fire up the system since buying that stuff, the only one I've played is Olli Olli since it's on PS4. And I just don't know how I'd have time for Yakuza.

Apothem seems pretty interesting though, I'm always curious when a game debuts on the system as a free game for Plus members especially now that the majority of PS4 users have it.

in Transistor and Rogue Legacy.

I happily spent $20-$25 all together on them joints, and now they're free (I actually spent more because I've bought Rogue Legacy on Steam too).

Apotheon looks dope. I'll be snatching it up along with Yakuza 4, but I can't speak on either of them games.
