272845, My Nintendo 3DS Post Posted by Scarface_7, Wed Jun-20-12 10:10 AM
Hullo
So I got one of these lil bitches for free over a year ago and never really used it. Its starting to get more burn in my pocket so I wanted to talk to others about their experiences. First the Games:
Most are indeed ports of Nintendo 64 titles. This blows ass but is great if u are a hardcore gamer (moi) or have never played these titles (my kids). Best port I've found are: Starfox 64 3D I LOVE Starfox so I was a guaranteed buy. If u watch me play this particular game you would think I was a computer LOL. Honorable Mention goes to Resident Evil: Revelations which is the most replayable addictive shooter that really makes great innovation of the 3DS
Must Have Games: Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart 9, Resident Evil Revelations, and Lego Batman 2. All 5Star games cant rave enough about each one. Batman and RE are the most replayable. Mario Kart too, I guess, the Online feature to Kart is worth the price alone! Playing grand prix with folks from all around the world is quite awesome and every player you interact with will be in your Mii world.
Must Have Downloads: CRUSH 3D, Samurai Showdown, and Zen Pinball all available in the Nintendo store all awesome as fuck esp Crush and Zen Pinball, my commutes have been great.
Games to Stay Away From: Splinter Cell 3D, Metal Gear 3DS, Rayman 3d (not Rayman origins thats OK but Rayman 3D is horrible)and Superhero Squad all these games have intense control issues that make them damn near unplayable. The best in this series is Metal Gear I guess, but thats for the script and cuz most never experienced Snakeeater on 64.
We got Netflix so I make use of that alot. I hate that Nintendo video doesnt give u the option of what to keep but ya know, its kinda cool. They should have videos 3d equipped for sale tho on the Nintendo Store. Thats all I got. What are you playing? Oh yeah, never sent a Swapnote in my life! LOL...

272912, any Professor Layton game Posted by hardware, Thu Jun-21-12 10:43 AM
Kid Icarus: Uprising
you should also look into the regular DS games like
Phoenix Wright Contra 4 Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks any Kirby game Sonic Rush Rhythm Heaven GTA: Chinatown Wars (CRAZY overlooked game) Advance Wars Ghost Trick Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story Mr Driller The World Ends With You 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DOPE) Metroid Prime Hunters
if you get a flashcard, you can just download the roms and play em to try them out.
|
272916, only things on ur list that interest me Posted by Scarface_7, Thu Jun-21-12 11:19 AM
are Contra 4 and Grand Theft Auto, both of which I played when they were new (not really sure on Contra gonna research that) but personally I dont want to revisit classics I want shit made specifically for 3DS like that new Castlevania game. I really cant go on about how perfect Lego Batman 2 is...
|
272925, really aint nothing dope came out thats 100% original yet Posted by hardware, Thu Jun-21-12 12:42 PM
which is a shame
the DS and GBA had all kinds of dope under the radar shit
Crush is dope but its a port of the PSP game
you fucked with Cave Story yet? i wanna play Switch Force
|
272927, I agree about under the radar. My Gameboy SP Posted by Scarface_7, Thu Jun-21-12 01:21 PM
was famous for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (which I really might buy again!) and GTA. Whats Cave Story? I'm Platinum at Club Nintendo so I got Might Switch Force for free, I enjoy its retroness but I am stuck on like episode 6 or so. For some reason my 4 yr old LOVES it, a bit above his level (only a bit) but once I showed him the mechanics he was all in. On the Playstation Store last night, Marvel Pinball was there, I'm really hoping this comes to the 3DS
|
272929, Cave Story was a crazy good indie game from 04 Posted by hardware, Thu Jun-21-12 01:43 PM
NIS recreated it with new graphics for the 3DS. the game is a really really good action/puzzle/adventure game
you'd probably enjoy it.
OG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr0CCkH49g0 3DS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsOmfb2zNlY
as for the GBA if you can find Ninja Five-0 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKU4upMDxjY ) and Drill Dozer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIE2jfpGd80 ), you'd probably be set.
i think they re-released the Megaman Zero games too dunno if you played those the two Megaman XZ games were pretty good as well

272914, All I have is Ocarina, Mario 3D, and Scribblenauts. Posted by JFrost1117, Thu Jun-21-12 10:50 AM
It took a looooong time for me to get into Ocarina, but I'm loving it now.

272917, so i got all deep into the Ocarina of Time on N64 Posted by Scarface_7, Thu Jun-21-12 11:20 AM
then my brother took over or deleted my file, cant remember which, but I cant imagine sitting through hours of that over again. I'm like how hard would it be to create a new Link game solely for 3DS???
|
272921, My genius move back in the day was getting Majora's Mask. Posted by JFrost1117, Thu Jun-21-12 12:06 PM
Which I totally love, but this is my first time playing Ocarina.

272931, Ok so I got a Japanese 3DS as a gift Posted by 13Rose, Thu Jun-21-12 04:01 PM
My japanese isn't THAT good so RPGs are out AND this mofo is region locked. I can play my old US DS games but 3DS joints HAVE to be Japanese. I feel like I'm not getting the most usage from this machine because the online and what not all need me to have a better understanding of the langauge than I do. I heard better games come out in Japan tho.
HELP!

272935, You're missing out if you ignore the Kid Icarus game Posted by Whiteout, Thu Jun-21-12 05:16 PM
Someone mentioned it before, but it needs another mention apparently.
I feel like if you really just like games, you gotta at least give this a chance.
Sort of in the same vein as Sin and Punishment and to a lesser extent Space Harrier and Panzer Dragoon.
But it's some good ol' on-rail shmup action.
Oh, but it's in 3d ... whatever that means to ya.
|
273063, I own it. Just am not that impressed @ all Posted by Scarface_7, Mon Jun-25-12 09:34 AM
Seems cobbled together in parts. Some things are done really well, others, not so much. The controls are a mess to me that targeting system needs to be reworked. When the kid is running and not flying shit gives me headaches. Personally dont understand the combine weapons feature done it many times extremely minimal impact on the overall game. U can just start the main story and barely hit anyone and survive to like stage 3 or so, I hate that.

272952, The Streetpass stuff is addictive Posted by topaz, Fri Jun-22-12 12:54 AM
I thought after Ocarina & Mario 3D Land, my 3DS would be gathering dust, but surprisingly I still take it out quite often just accumulate steps and getting Streetpass hits. Love collecting new puzzle pieces.
|
272954, I need to take my shit to a Con or something. Posted by JFrost1117, Fri Jun-22-12 01:30 AM
I be tempted to post up outside of Gamestop or something tryin to get passes, lol. Patrick Klepek makes it seem hella fun, but I never take mine anywhere. My lil' cousin has a 3DS, but I haven't gotten his pass yet.
|
272956, Weekends are usually the best times for picking up hits Posted by topaz, Fri Jun-22-12 03:40 AM
Go to tourist areas or malls. I was picking up like 8-10 hits per day when I visited NYC, it was great.

273001, Just remember to go to Mii Plaza to reset the Streetpass count Posted by topaz, Sat Jun-23-12 03:56 AM
Once you get 10 people/hits, it won't queue up anymore hits until you open Mii Plaza to let them inside.
|
272975, Here's the games I own at the moment... Posted by Mr Teeth, Fri Jun-22-12 03:08 PM
Mario Kart 7 Zelda: OoT Super Mario 3D Land Resident Evil: Revelations
I haven't used my 3DS in two months now. I know Mario Tennis was recently released. I'm looking to get Kid Icarus. There's quite a few of launch games for selling for cheap now...£10-£15 at CeX.
I'm just occupied with other stuff, so haven't been keeping up with all the 3DS developments for the moment.
>Mario Kart too, I guess, the Online feature to Kart is worth >the price alone! Playing grand prix with folks from all around >the world is quite awesome and every player you interact with >will be in your Mii world.
I don't like that. There's to much added to your Mii plaza, after you play a few online games. I usually keep this option turned off.
>playing? Oh yeah, never sent a Swapnote in my life! LOL...
It's quite good, you should try it. I used it with two people on OKP (tapaz and some other guy).

273509, S'alright! Developments. Firstly, Posted by Scarface_7, Mon Jul-09-12 09:28 AM
PLATINUM STATUS @ club Nintendo. Which nets me some really shitty Mario exclusive playing cards and a free dl of Mario Tennis for Wii BOOOOOOO. Still not impressed. I have 12 games for my 3DS and will prolly sell the whole bloody lot on ebay.
MARVEL PINBALL is OFF THE DAMN CHAIN. I LOOOOOOOOOVE pinball games. Zen Pinball is prolly the first thing i dl'd from the Nintendo Store. The Marvel tables feel light (only 4 but just like ZP) but the speed is a lil slow but the colors/ creativity make it a definite cop esp if u over 16. Only thing I have to look forward to now is Castlevania...
|
273542, RE: S'alright! Developments. Firstly, Posted by TAYREL713, Mon Jul-09-12 03:47 PM
How do I get both the cards and the download as I only got the cards and it says I already redeemed my elite gift when trying for the download.
|
273575, iono but thats whack! Posted by Scarface_7, Tue Jul-10-12 10:33 AM
I wasnt expecting anything other than my deck. But after completing that purchase the next screen it took me to said that i could get the tennis, it took forever to download. maybe i had a dl before becoming platinum tho, like they're seperate issues. Are u in the DS Ambassador program (those that have had 3DS Forever) we get bonus DLs...

Hard/Classic mode, no units died. Easier than previous FE games since you can grind for levels. Still got a crap load of sidequests to go through.

293472, I'm seriously considering getting one of these Posted by Paps_Smear, Tue Nov-18-14 11:18 AM
I don't own anything recent by Nintendo and I feel like I'd get more use out of the 3DS XL out than from the Wii U.
Looking at the NES throwback gamestop joint. Kid has one so that is something else we could do together. I'm about to bite this bullet and cop one soon.
|

294080, Copped one yesterday Posted by Paps_Smear, Tue Dec-23-14 09:38 AM
I like it!
Picked up Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and also Bravely Default.
Looking to play anything on this besides shooters and spots titles. Anything else worth an immediate purchase? I hear those Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright games are pretty decent.
|
294086, not many shooters on 3ds at all Posted by hardware, Tue Dec-23-14 12:30 PM
only ones i can think of are Kid Icarus and Moon Chronicles which are actually pretty good
this is a good start. hasn't been updated in a while http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki/Nintendo_3DS
if you wanna get in on the Wright/Layton action you'd probably also like 999 and Virtue's Last Reward.
great eshop titles i'd reccomend: Cave Story, Steamworld Dig, Shovel Knight, Xeodrifter, Ghost Recon Shadow Wars, Dark Void Zero, Mighty Switch Force 1/2, Shantae
obviously the big first party games are great.
|
294088, Mario 3D Land is great Posted by topaz, Tue Dec-23-14 06:15 PM
Virtue's Last Reward - visual novel/puzzle game with an amazing story.
Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies - better than the Layton/Wright crossover.
If you like Final Fantasy, Theatrhythm Curtain Call is essential.
|
294089, word. I sat in the dentist office on my son's playing it till he came back Posted by Lach, Tue Dec-23-14 10:20 PM

Thanks!
Gonna pick a few of those up after checking them out online due to your recommendation.
I kinda wanna check out a pokemon game to see how those are these days, may end up doing that also.
Man this thing is great! Pretty much stopped messing with Nintendo right after the Wii came out so its nice to see they're still going hard with the handhelds. Perfect for my on the go gaming needs.

294575, You should really try the Codename STEAM demo Posted by hardware, Fri Feb-06-15 01:42 PM
its basically like Valkyria Chronicles. the system is really tight too and a lot deeper than i think people are expecting. i really wanna play multiplayer.
There will be 16 playable characters and 4 Amiibo here are 9 leaked: http://i.imgur.com/82x4Od1.jpg
here's a bit from the Game FAQs thread:
Stun system (most of these are probably known, but it doesn't hurt to mention):
- Stun does not carry between turns. As soon as a turn ends, all characters become unstunned.
- Healing effects cure stun.
- When a character is stunned (be you or the enemy), all following damage hits are automatically critical hits (2x the weapon's damage). However, after that next attack ends, the character is not stunned anymore.
- I have the feeling that overwatch attacks have a higher chance to stun. Or maybe there's a hidden parameter in weapons.
Damage and Critical Damage system:
Now here things get interesting. By watching multiplayer footage and testing these myself (with friendly fire), I found the following.
- Lion's Courageous ability reduces all incoming damage on your characters by 20%.
- The enemy unit "Prowler" has an innate 50% damage reduction, except when hit on the weak spot.
- Critical hits dealing double damage happen either when you hit a stunned enemy or their weak point. Playable characters also have a weak spot, two in fact. But they behave differently. See below.
- Headshots exist! Hits on the head area have a 20% damage bonus (x 1.2), with red numbers appearing. This seems to be true only for playable characters (single and multiplayer).
- Your characters do have a weak spot just like the aliens: the back of your steam boiler. More specifically, the hole in the back which produces lighting. This is huge news for multiplayer, because you'll want to flank your opponents as much as possible. It also reinforces the importance of overwatch and unit facing.
- More interestingly though, sometimes hits on your characters deal less damage than normal. I wasn't able to reproduce this with friendly fire, but it's there.
- And regarding the Steam Crossbow, what it specifally does, it doubles all critical damage. Weak spot hits do 4x damage and headshots do 2.4x damage.
- The damage preview thing in the UI (flashing bars) do not predict these calculations. It only considers the weapon flat base damage.
You can test all of this by just shooting you own units. Since there's rounding during the calculation, results may be slighlty off sometimes.

294618, Persona Q is dope as hell btw Posted by topaz, Tue Feb-10-15 08:08 PM
It's a very rewarding feeling to draw your maps and explore the unknown. Not much of a story but I'm enjoying the character interactions a lot. The battles are a lot of fun too, lots of different combinations between the characters and Personas. If you feel like goofing around, there are plenty of sidequests to do.

294723, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Posted by Paps_Smear, Fri Feb-20-15 10:05 AM
Copped this after digging the demo (shout out to Jfrost for the demo code)
I like it a lot. Fulfills my grinding needs in video games. Copped because I hear this is a good one for new plays to get into and they really held my hand at first as far as guiding me through how the game works. I hear it gets rough as hell and downright punishing at higher rank quest. I'm all for it.
3ds been killin it lately, one of the best purchases I've had in a while.

Moving the screen on this one, it seems less "clicky". Might be a little heavier than my last 3DS XL. I have to get a case and some screen protectors ASAP, because it's more glossy than the last XL. I'll check out some Amiibo's later.

294974, Is trilogy worth it? Posted by Paps_Smear, Fri Mar-13-15 10:51 AM
I copped Dual Destinies awhile ago just didn't get around to playing it.
I hear good things

294979, Dual Destinies is dope Posted by hardware, Fri Mar-13-15 12:41 PM
still working through the DLC. i recently finished Layton v Wright. You may be a little disappointed with the ending of DD, but still worth it. Best characters out of all of them, imo.
the trilogy is worth it if you haven't played through them already. i haven't played through Trials and Tribulations so i'm copping it instead of the DS version just to have HD graphics. i'd prefer to have a boxed copy of the trilogy, which you can get from Japan since it includes english

Olli Olli is good. the experience isn't as great as having it on PC, but still good on something portable

295352, Xenoblade Posted by Paps_Smear, Fri Apr-10-15 02:08 PM
Picked up New 3DS after trading in my other one.
Kinda looking forward to Xenoblade I hear its one of the better JRPGs in awhile so this will be something else to keep me busy. Never played it on the Wii so it's all brand new to me.
Hope this tides me over until the next Fire Emblem or Bravely Default.

305299, RIP Posted by topaz, Tue Sep-22-20 08:25 PM
Yes the 3D was gimmicky, you could tell that the devs lost interest after the first few years, much like the DS's touch screen, but overall it still ended up with an amazing library of games. I also miss going out and seeing the green light for StreetPass hits, I think I have 2000+ at the moment.
I hope they have a sale for the first party titles on the eShop, because there's still a few games I wanna get. I've been buying niche Atlus games, they're dirt cheap when they're on sale.

305300, I don't know what to attribute Nintendo never putting stuff on sale to. Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Sep-23-20 02:21 AM
I don't know if it's a Japanese thing, or what, but they act like a sale would destroy their company.
That, and I was heartbroken when my games and account from the 3DS wouldn't transfer when I got the 3DS XL. I was working with a few people that would get me some StreetPass connects, but after I left that job, I literally never got another StreetPass.
I might get a Switch when they decide what they're gonna do about the next version.

305302, I think it's because they can Posted by topaz, Wed Sep-23-20 05:45 AM
It's not like Nintendo games are on other platforms, so if people really want a game, they will buy it, full price or not. To be fair they do have the Nintendo Selects line, I'm just annoyed Majora's Mask 3D isn't part it in Australia/EU but is in North America.
I was able to transfer my stuff from an old 3DS to a New XL, but it was definitely a cumbersome process.
Smartphones have pretty much killed portable consoles unfortunately, I guess the Switch Lite is supposed to fill that void somewhat.

305314, you can definitely do a system transfer Posted by hardware, Thu Sep-24-20 09:01 PM
you just can't go backwards

305415, Still worth grabbing one, btw Posted by hardware, Tue Dec-01-20 03:37 PM
one of the more satisfying consoles to hack
hardware is really impressive and you can see how much they held back

305426, might try that Posted by L_O_Quent, Wed Dec-09-20 08:29 AM
my offspring have two 2DS' sitting around anyway.
