mind the $ that went into it. 24/7 storage & access to growing lab of alchemy ingredients is a nice thing to have, and I go to Whiterun a lot anyway since the smithy is right by the door.
Sidenote, I'm a little sad the dragon bones, etc don't have any alchemical properties.
