Treyarch Announces First Strike Map Pack for Black Ops

If you're feeling FPS ennui in Call of Duty: Black Ops, Treyarch has some good news: the studio is preparing to launch its own Mapathy cure with the initial DLC map pack for Black Ops, First Strike.

In a podcast interview with Xbox Live's Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb, Treyarch's Dan Bunting revealed that First Strike will bring four new multiplayer maps and a new level for Zombie mode on February 1.



"We learned a lot of lessons in the development and design of the maps on the shipped game," Bunting said. "For DLC we really wanted to go bigger with some of the things we learned that people liked. We focused a lot more on providing variety of weaponry, variety of engagement types, variety of verticality--a lot more verticality, bringing some sniper opportunities into it."

The four new multiplayer maps are:
Discovery -- Set in the German's abandoned Antarctic research station from the single-player campaign.

Kowloon -- The rainy rooftops of Kowloon City, inspired by the level from the single-player campaign.

Berlin Wall -- The best-known Berlin Wall crossing during the Cold War was known as Checkpoint Charlie. That's where you'll do battle.

Stadium -- Do you believe in miracles? A hockey arena set in the Northeast U.S. that has us thinking Lake Placid and the Olympic Miracle on Ice.
The Zombie mode map is called Ascension, but Treyarch still isn't ready to reveal details about it.

First Strike will launch as an Xbox 360 exclusive on February 1 for 1,200 Microsoft Points or $15. Treyarch and Activision have not yet announced plans for the PlayStation 3 and PC launch.
