244879, i love jquery
Posted by squeeg, Fri Nov-05-10 06:49 PM
Just built a web app using jQuery to read JSON objects with Ajax requests. jQuery makes this very doable with minimal hassle.

I also love JSLint, even though I realize you don't have to do everything it suggests. I don't mind being kept in line, though.

Posted by jetblack, Fri Nov-05-10 06:19 PM
I'm very familiar with Adobe applications, even taught Adobe and HTML classes. Mix and match languages? WTF does that mean? *gasface*
Please explain in detail WTF you are trying to do.
244881, are you talking about "mixing" html and javascript?
Posted by squeeg, Fri Nov-05-10 06:56 PM
Help us help you.

Also, how did you land a major web design gig? And what's CS4 got to with it?

244885, yes thats what I'm talking about
Posted by Tw3nty, Fri Nov-05-10 08:16 PM
don't know how to phrase it properly

I basically have a site that was built in only HTML(per company policy, which has now be nixed)
I want to add drop downs and some java based apps to it,
I know it can be done in HTML but I hear there are faster ways.
244887, you can do hover drop-down menus with pure css
Posted by squeeg, Fri Nov-05-10 08:54 PM
http://www.webdesignerwall.com/tutorials/css3-dropdown-menu/
It's better to use a non-JavaScript solution when you can.

If you need click functionality, you can use something like this:
http://www.noupe.com/tutorial/drop-down-menu-jquery-css.html

What types of apps are you trying to add? There may be an easier answer to what you're trying to achieve.

Also, it seems strange that a company would have a policy that prevents JavaScript. Perhaps by "HTML-only", they mean no Flash? Just to be sure, Java and JavaScript are not at all the same thing.

Also funny to read the positive vibes for jQuery in this thread. The JS landscape has changed so much in 10 years.
305434, That's pretty dope
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Sun Dec-20-20 08:56 PM
Did that take a long time to make?

And yes, JS is so more complex now with the frameworks.
305436, It didn't take too long
Posted by topaz, Mon Dec-21-20 03:40 AM
Mostly just had to work out the notes, then making sure the slowed down parts didn't sound off. The library itself (Tone.js) is very simple to set up and mess around in, at least for the basic stuff.
305435, Right.

Front-end development in general is still a fast-moving landscape. I imagine we could make a post praising React or a similar library/framework today, and look back in amusement in another 5-10 years.

Also funny to read myself being kind of a dick. My bad.

Also, I don't think var/let/const name = 'name' was ever illegal.

I'm comfortable with React and find it very easy to use, so I hope it sticks around for a while haha, but yeah definitely need to keep up with the current trends in this industry.
