this game might make you chuck a controller at the screen, so watch yourself. might have to tie it down.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szt7413LWg4

340+ levels, 15+ characters (from various indie titles), and a great replay system. currently sitting at 92/100 on metacritic.

PC version drops on 11/20. Mac and Wii soon after.
244012, No PSN version?
Posted by chillinCHiEF, Wed Oct-20-10 06:04 PM
I hate buying from XBLA and Wii because of their nut ass point systems.
244022, nope, no psn version
Posted by Nabs, Wed Oct-20-10 06:59 PM
I'm gonna pick it up PC when it drops. Got my SNES controller waiting.
244057, Word. 360 it is then.

244523, My hands/thumbs are sore from playing this
Posted by topaz, Thu Oct-28-10 05:37 PM
Finished Chapter 1 (The Forest) last night, shit is good! I had the most trouble with one of the warp zones (WAAAAAAAAAARP ZOOOOOOONE!! lol) - the three mini-levels where you get three lives for each level - but was able to finish & get the bandages after lots, and I mean LOTS of deaths. The chapter boss level was intense! Felt really good to be dodging those blades while running full speed at the same time.

Played some of the Dark World levels too. I'm pretty sure I'm not hardcore enough to finish all of them lol. I do plan on finishing all of the Light World though, looking forward to the other chapters.

I'd recommend stopping play once your thumbs stop responding though, those wall jumps require some pinpoint precision.
244552, Copped as soon as I get home
Posted by TAYREL713, Fri Oct-29-10 01:31 PM
Been playing the demo non stop finally copped some extra points this morning so I can buy the full version> Wonder what the Wii and PC versions will have that seperates them from the XBLA version?

Posted by Nabs, Fri Oct-29-10 01:34 PM
i think all versions get exclusive characters.
244579, You guys tried 'Teh Internets' levels yet?
Posted by topaz, Sat Oct-30-10 11:28 AM
I really felt like I was climbing a mountain on the Cliffhanger stage. Free DLC ftw!

Here's a really helpful guide of where all the bandages and warp zones are, without giving away the exact locations:

245093, with COD out and AC next week
Posted by xangeluvr, Wed Nov-10-10 03:43 AM
there's probably not many on the boards playing this. i want to get it, but i know AC will be eating up my time come next week.
245094, well, the game's been out for quite a while now
Posted by Nabs, Wed Nov-10-10 04:13 AM
and still very few showed interest. it's a shame, because it seems like the game is really good (and cheap!). i'll be grabbing it on PC in a few weeks. it'll launch @ $10 as well.

245135, It's a great game, thanks for putting me on to it
Posted by topaz, Wed Nov-10-10 08:16 PM
It's giving me the urge to play more 2D platformers after this. I need to finish old Mario & Sonic games that I found too difficult when I was little.

It's still 800pts for another week or so, I highly recommend 360 owners to pick this up. It's a very challenging and addictive game, and so much fun.

also the patch is being reviewed my MS, so depending on that, you'll get your save fix soon. remember, it comes with 20 more levels (an internets act) and a new music track.
246377, fuck the kid.

246403, co fucking sign
Posted by topaz, Fri Dec-03-10 10:20 PM
I just unlocked him, took about 2.5 hrs with breaks in between. It's torture, but very satisfying when you eventually beat each stage. I need a new pair of hands though, damn they're sore...
245320, is it a lot different than n+?
Posted by bruceLeroy, Sat Nov-13-10 06:46 PM
seems like same concept. but i didn't even finish n+ yet
245415, FUCK YEAH!!!!!! Just finished the Light World
Posted by topaz, Tue Nov-16-10 06:26 AM
It was so unbelievably satisfying when I beat the final boss stage, after dying like a hundred times (literally I think).

Still got warp zones to do, bandages to collect, characters to unlock, Dark World stages to beat, The Cotton Alley chapter, and Teh Internets. I highly doubt I'll get around to all of it, but I'll be damned if this game doesn't have a shit load of content.
245416, Woohoo
Posted by God Loves Ugly, Tue Nov-16-10 08:12 AM
I agree about the content. It is what motivated me to end up buying it. I figure I'll never be dedicated enough to do everything, but it will be enough to cover the ten bucks, that's for sure.
245421, PC version - Nov. 30th. $10. 6 new characters (preorder in a week)

So far we know about the dude from Minecraft, the captain from VVVVVV, the robot from Machinarium, and the headcrab from Half Life (Steam exclusive). If you don't buy it from Steam you get the World of Goo ball instead.

Steam gets 33 achievements (at least). Leaderboards as well.

245658, I just want to brag that I beat The Kid warp zone
Posted by God Loves Ugly, Fri Nov-19-10 04:36 PM
That shit was frustrating as fuck.
245835, Oh shit, good work!! How long did it take you?
Posted by topaz, Tue Nov-23-10 07:30 PM
I'll attempt The Kid properly when I have a full morning & afternoon to spare. I wanna be focused for it so doing it on a weeknight after a long day's work is out of the question. It's that REAL.

I'm working on the Cotton Alley levels at the moment, got about 5 more levels to go. It's tough as nails but I want that achievement!
245836, I attempted 2 different times over 2 days
Posted by God Loves Ugly, Tue Nov-23-10 07:53 PM
The first time it took about an hour to get past the first level. The second one seemed easier, but I could not time the moving left/right on the second and third spiked rows as the platform moved.

I ended up having to quit because I had to go into work. So about an hour and a half to 2 hours total the first day.

Second time, I nailed the first level in about 15-20 minutes because once you get the timing, it's not too bad.

I played the second level for about 25 minutes and I just was in the zone on the last platform going down (the one going up at the very end is a piece of cake compared to the 2nd and 3rd).

The last level also took about 20 minutes. I had to watch a video to get an idea for getting from the middle to the top level, because I could not get the timing down.

So I would say a little over an hour the second day. I got lucky in a few parts (and frustrated in others), but it was certainly worth it.

Also, it is VERY important to set down the controller every now and then, and do something else for like 5 to 10 minutes and come back. You'll still remember the patterns/timing, but it does wonders for your eyes and precision.

I played one or two levels of the cotton world, but it was after playing forever, and I just said, "fuck this". lol
245841, Hmm hopefully I can finish The Kid's warp zone in one session
Posted by topaz, Tue Nov-23-10 08:43 PM
It'll suck having to re-do any of his levels again.

Yeah it's important to take a break or quit the game before it gets too tedious and annoying. I try not to play too many levels in one session to avoid being frustrated. This game is super addictive though so it's hard to put down the controller...

What's really neat is when you go back and play the earlier levels (Light or Dark), you'll breeze through them. I racked up a bunch of bandages from the first two worlds (post-game) and hardly broke a sweat.
245842, pc version up for preorder. release is on the 30th

246254, Ahhhh. This game is so awesome.

I'm finally able to play it, after all this time.

Currently playing it with my 360 pad on my 1080p monitor. It runs so well, and looks incredible.

246353, So where are you up to now?
Posted by topaz, Thu Dec-02-10 06:00 PM

the xbox version will drop to 800pt for the holiday sale on xbla

247430, It's a shame this isn't getting more love around here
Posted by topaz, Mon Dec-20-10 07:41 PM
It's easily one of my fav games of the year. It's the ultimate 2D platformer, with superb and precise controls. Yes it's challenging but you essentially have unlimited lives (besides the warp zones) so it rarely gets frustrating.

I've still got bandages to collect but I'm taking a break from it until they put the damn patch up for the 360 version.
248022, spent about 2 hours on this today....and likely will play more

251180, Took me a day to unlock
Posted by Nabs, Wed Feb-23-11 03:50 AM
my hand was straight up stuck in a crab grip for a day after that.

but the kid is so worth it.
251216, I did it over a span of 2 days
Posted by Wonderl33t, Wed Feb-23-11 02:38 PM
took me a whole day to beat the first level, then I practiced the 2nd. Then the next day, I beat the 2nd level in the morning, and had the 3rd level beaten by early afternoon.

My roommate was in the room when I beat the 3rd to share in the glory with me. I got out of my chair and raised both fists in the air like I had just won a gold medal, hahaha.

<--- suck it
251217, and my fingers are f'ing sore...I play on PC and use the keyboard

<--- suck it
251220, I'm on the PC too. I tried my SNES pad, 360 Pad, Keyboard
Posted by Nabs, Wed Feb-23-11 02:45 PM
I just kept rotating. The 360 pad tried to kill my hand. It was almost successful.

While the first stage took some time to beat, I still felt like I was making progress. The second stage looked easy as shit and because of that, I ended up getting stuck on the first half for hours. I rarely made it to the last portion of the stage.

The third stage was actually really easy once I figured out the timing. The problem with that stage is that it's 3rd. My hand was not prepared.
251266, RE: I'm on the PC too. I tried my SNES pad, 360 Pad, Keyboard
Posted by Wonderl33t, Wed Feb-23-11 11:49 PM
Hah, I tried an xbox controller like the instructions implore you to, but I found it way too imprecise, so I stuck with the keyboard.

I agree about the progress of the first level. I mastered each stage until I could get to the end consistently, then I knew it was just a matter of time.

On the second level, I mastered the first half pretty quickly, actually. The bitch for me was mounting the platform for the descent on the 2nd half. It took me like 20 tries of that just to get past the first spike on the descent.

Third was all timing like you said. Timing and anticipation of the spikes. Not easy, but the easiest of the three imo.

251181, XBLA users - 2 new chapters (40 new levels) have been uploaded
Posted by Nabs, Wed Feb-23-11 03:53 AM
They can be found in Teh Internets

The first is Expert Remix. It is exactly as it sounds.

Here... look at this: http://edmundm.com/expert4.jpg

The second is called Cramps. It's the first user made chapter. I'm guessing he used the beta dev tools that everyone with the PC version got. That probably means you guys will get a ton of new content once the PC guys get their official tools.

251182, Oh fuck that!
Posted by topaz, Wed Feb-23-11 04:54 AM
>Here... look at this: http://edmundm.com/expert4.jpg

How is this level even possible without The Kid's double jump?? Guess I'll have to try for myself...
251218, that's actually the kid's warp zone level 1 in that pic
Posted by Wonderl33t, Wed Feb-23-11 02:40 PM
but with meat boy instead of the kid

<--- suck it
251233, Oh I know that (post 34)
Posted by topaz, Wed Feb-23-11 05:33 PM
Hence why I'm in shock that this level can even be completed with Meat Boy. That top right corner is like 10x harder since you're gonna have to somehow get to the left wall while in midair then bounce yourself off it, instead of 'just' doing the double jump to clear the spiked floor...scares me just thinking about it.
251280, Check out I-4 Bombs on Cramps (Internets)

It's HECTIC and awesome. The levels here are challenging but doable. Expert Remix on the other hand makes me wanna cry. I did manage to beat 2 stages though!
