and in a game that relies so heavily on anti-air I can't use the (MK or HK) Air Danku to escape lariat nonsense largely because of Green Hand

I dunno how it is for other folks but fighting Dan? Green Hand may as well be safe on block

Luckily there aren’t very many, but that’s definitely Gief’s hardest match. There is very little that can be done on a Dhalsim that knows how to zone properly.

As for the Dan stuff, I dunno. I’ve played against Dan maybe two or three times online and I think the idea of possibly losing to Dan made me play shitty (I still won all three games, but they seemed fairly close). You aren’t supposed to really pick him tho, Doc. lol.

They did buff him a lot so maybe he’ll have a fighting chance now.

Also, you can ALWAYS throw after a blocked green hand. That shit is never ever safe. Try it!

being able to psychically predict when he's going to go for a wall jump and being able to keep him trapped is way too difficult. he doesn't have to dp once. or go for the stupid kick or 360 or teleport.

it's not pretty, but it's fn effective.

add the wall jump added another aspect of cheap to him.
Even with the "Jouki" (Jokey) Health meter, he's an annoying fuck.

Zan needs to get inside, and Stretch is best to keep people outside. Even with the lariet and green hand a good Stretch player can keep him out of range then fry him.

i have over 50 games for my 360 and the only ones that get consistent spin are SFIV and NBA 2K10

my boy got the bootleg early. Madd Hot! Love it so far. My only complaint is with everyone getting a 2nd Ultra & with new Characters having 2 ultras, unlike SF3 where when you chose your super it also showed you the motion for it, here it just shows the name. Meaning if its someone you never used, or a old character with a new ultra, ya gotta pause the game & check the moves list for how to do it. Minor gripe, since as you play more you'll soon have them memorized.

Any way new ultras are GREAT. Hakan is effective but WEIRD. LOL Juri...not feeling her too much. The returning cast from other games fit in very well.

This game is so much fun. Everybody does less damage from the original cast except sim. My main in Sf4 Rufus does less damage and does less damage like ex-messiah kick does 160 rather than 230. His ultra 2 is stupid tho. You can't really combo it but if you jump, ultra. Can't throw a fireball ultra 2. Dee Jay is so solid. He is so much fun. His normals are really good and owns the ground. Very similar to ST. Juri is so good that it stupid. She is that New Rufus aka that PB&J. Ex-pinwheel is the new messiah kick. she can counter fireballs and any move that is not armor breaking. her pressure game is better than Rufus. She has fireballs that she can shoot more than one. This is that character that the Dr.Claw is going to curse out. I replace the fat for the purple eye.

They're nice, and have plenty of options to mod them (custom art, plexiglass, different buttons, etc). I'd cop a 360 version and add a Chimp board so it can work on XBox and PS3 (not that expensive or hard to do).

unfortunately I'll be playing with regular ass PS3 controllers (which I assume are better than the 360s annoy ass control scheme) but I tried Mad Catz' arcade sticks yesterday and and it was an L. Just doesn't work for me...

Yeah, the PS3 regular pad is much better for playing this than the 360's. I'm using the Tekken 6 arcade stick tho this time around.

i've been holding off on looking at this just because i've still got unbeaten games to play, but i just read the IGN review and i think i'll have to go get this. also, i need to get some new buttons for my Hori, couple of them are sticking.

plus they are adding a tournament dlc in june so that should be dope.

It's easy for me to play with the arcade stick with the 6 button layout, but not on the pad. It's like my hands want to play like I'm playing with a regular controller when I use the madcatz pads.

but, i also use a character that doesn't rely on links, fadc or target combos. some of the challenges are damn near impossible w/out a stick.

it's the button layout. can't move my thumb across the pad quick enough to land the links and the fadc is just akward as hell on a pad.

I wouldn't recommend the PS3 one because of the BS dongle.

After using a pad for the last 15 years making the transition back to a stick felt funny at first. But once I realized how much easier charge moves and fadcs were to do with a stick it was a wrap. The only problem I have is pulling of DPs every time with any shotos, probably because I only used them after the home versions came out and never in the arcades. If I put some time in I could get that down too.

The 360 pad always felt funny for fighters. Controller layout aside (which feels funny coming from the SNES/PSX sticks), the D-pad feels like shit.

I"m actually considering making a few more sticks and selling them. Haven't decided on American style parts or Japanese style yet. L_O, if shipping across the pond wasn't a million dollars I'd send you one...

personally, I think the "SNES"-based layout used on both controllers is asstastic for playing a 6 button game

but using a pad also sort of implies you use the D-Pad, as you can get those motions out better with that than an analog stick... and the 360 D-Pad is doo-doo compared to the PS3 one.

I'd say it's the worst D-Pad ever created.

The PS3 D-Pad is several orders of magnitude better for playing fighters (or really any game that needs a D-Pad). The face button layout isn't that big of a deal, but the buttons on the PS3 are better as well.

i hate the PS3 ones...all the ones i had didn't work...i use the regular PS3 controller...

but for the 360...the 6 button will make a appearance.

A stick is worth the investment for both systems.
Coming from a dpad, you're going to lose a lot at first.
But eventually, you will be doing things you would not have been able to do with a dpad.

Relatively, of course.

I loved the pad with SFII, but it's difficult to do a lot of the combos on a pad in SFIV.

I main Guile and DeeJay. I would never be able to do the FADC into Ultra on pad.

Altho I'll hold off on the 360 version until I can get a stick.

I already have a TE and SE for PS3, and from what I read, you have to start with a 360 stick to do dual modding.

Dual modding a 360 stick would be pointless since I already have two sticks for the PS3. Not to mention the extra money and how time consuming it'd be. I barely have time to play the game let alone build a stick.

If you could dual mod from PS3 to 360, that might be ok, but I'd probably spend just as much on a 360 pcb (I'm guessing you'd use a 360 controlled, which is at least $30) and soldering equipment as I would if I could get the stick for $40.

That's spot on. For a PS3-->360 you need to hack a 360 pad and get a switch, either physical or electronic for the USB data lines. For 360-->PS3, you just need one board and some solder time.

So is it worth the hassle dual modding a PS3 stick instead of just buying a 360 stick outright? Comes down to personal preference. Is it worth having an all in one stick, or multiple sticks don't matter.

The biggest problem modifying the SE art is that damn slope to the case. With a TE you can buy some custom cut plexiglass and slap it on top of the new art. With the SE? No Chance.

What most people try to do is go to Kinko's, get the art printed and have it Lamilabeled (a big ass laminated sticker, if you will). Unfortunately, Kinko's can be on some shit when it comes to trademarked characters, logos, etc. You may find a guy sympathetic to the cause (or try the self service printing) but getting the lamilabel may be something else depending on who's on duty..

You could print the art on card stock and laminate it yourself, then get some spray adhesive and put it down that way as well.

They have a few boards that will do PS3 natively, without having to hack a pad. With a 360, you have to have an official M$ approved board (no aftermarket homebrew for that just yet). So it's easier to hack a 360 pad to on eof the PS3 solutions and go from there. You can go the other way around, but 360 ->PS3 is 10 times easier.

As for that Hori, I can check. The board has to be common ground to dual mod, and I can't remember off the top of my head if it is (some of Hori's are, some aren't). If it isn't, I can recommend a guy that can dual mod damn near any stick. He designed and created his own PCB, so he knows hat he's doing...

I tried it out on MvC2, first time I have played with a fight stick before. Kinda tricky to get used to, but like 20 minutes later I was a lot more comfortable with it than when I started.

Only played a little MvC with it last night, but the stick motions felt pretty natural after 15-20 minutes. Going to take awhile to get the feel of the buttons, but for $50 it's not bad at all. Then again, I had enough Gamestop credit to practically get the game for free, so I dind't have to physically plunk down $90 for a game and an accessory.

I picked up Hakan immediately after I got done FADCing with Dan (I think he did get nerfed HP wise, I take a few errant hits from Dan and I'm screwed), but LMAOOOOOOOOOOO @ the crouching taunt doing chip damage.

Hakan is one of the weirdest (and most hilarious) characters I've played in a Capcom fighter... yet, much like the rest of the "all-new" characters, I get a distinct "SNK" feel from him.

I dunno if he's really ready to be a rival to Gief. he has too much slide and punishment opportunities. but he's funny as hell to watch.

I also like that the Alternates from SFIV costume-wise are still there (and all the colors are there too).

i was playing somebody w/a lil' bit of lag and i couldn't block that thing on reaction at all and kept getting hit by it. very very annoying.

dude i was playing landed a nasty grab to finish off the match. he hadn't tried to grab the entire match. i played him again w/gief and he landed a couple slides and tried to walk away for the entire fn match. disgusto. super disgusto.

apparently, gief has been eating people's grandmoms since i stopped playing everyday, because everyone has some of the cheapest runaway, keepaway, scared scared scared shit they do against him.

gonna have to get my adon weight up to avoid these annoying matches.

I played a quick endless battle joint. There was a bum ass Juri that spammed the dive kick. How he got 5 wins was beyond me. I spent the match countering that dive kick and punished her with Akuma's B&B. He had the nerve to say I spammed fireballs. lol

A lot of these cats are gimmick cheap fighters who rely on our knowledge to not know how to stop a certain move. But they never learn outside of that. So when the face someone who knows how to stop their gimmick they get mad as hell. Always funny.

believe me when I say that I have an easier time with Dan (not just because I main him, because it's almost as if nothing she does is safe on block).

-very different from 3s. youre pretty much learning a new character.
-not easy to use. target combos are simple, but if you want to do any worthwhile damage, it seems like you have to work harder for it (in comparison to 3s).
-as a Boxer user, i find that Dudley is weaker than Boxer at the mid-long range game. you gotta work harder to get in that ass. pause.
-his overhead is amazing, as well as his standing HK.
-Ducking is still a good move for meter + avoiding fireballs.
-i can't find much use for short swing blow yet.
-his crouching LP is much better than Boxer.
-he has no footsies.
-a lot of his moves are unsafe on block.
-he has great jump-in tactics, but if you whiff it, youre fucked.
-EX machinegunblow is mad unsafe. great distance, great comboability and great chip dmg, but it's gotten stuffed by a lot of other fighters i've played against.
-SUPERS: rocket upper super ---> deadlier than most character's ultras. it's a beast. keep an eye out for dudley's who have full super.
-ULTRAS: corkscrew cross ---> you can combo into this ultra from almost all of dudley's moves. it's godly. however, don't sleep on rolling thunder, esp against shoto characters.

ive only played about 2-3 hours with dudley. honestly, i'm horrible with him right now. i'm trying to break out of the 3s style of playing, so it's going to take a while for me to get use to him in the sf4 universe.

It's actually a pretty good durable stick. I just have to get comfortable using it tho with SSF4. It be hard getting out moves sitting this thing on the coffee table. I need like a 4 foot table to sit it on so I can stand up and play. Hate sitting with an arcade stick. That's a good deal newegg has tho. Even if you don't want Tekken 6, you could sell the game for like 30-40 bucks on ebay/half.com.

i've read its a terrible stick, and also it is not too easy to mod. so if you sold the game then it may be a good deal for 10 bucks i guess.

When I got SFIV I stuck with E. Honda since I used to play with him and remembered a few moves from back in the day. You'll suck at first but keep working on it.

my dudley game is not shaping up too well. yea, he's strong and has a lot of stamina, but his strict execution is a bitch. i'd say he's a level or two below c.viper when it comes to execution.

i played last night and only won 2 matches out of....many (the netcode still sucks for me. a lot of matches were very laggy, even with full green bars). my 2 wins were from an ibuki and a gief. some thoughts:

-chun/cody/bison/dhalsim/guile. all hard matchups for dudley. when chun & bison corner you, its GG.
-standing hp is great for zoning a gief. a few target combos will give you enough pushback to stay out of gief's grab range, allowing you to combo into the super/ultra.
-you stand no chance vs ibuki's knockdowns. only option is to escape.
-high risk/high reward fighter. you'll have to take a lot of damage and use all of his moves to make an impact in a fight. i even found myself using his thunderbolt move once or twice to throw off the opponent.
-managed to land a couple of his cross counters. seems very useful against some matchups.

patience is the key with dudley. hopefully in a couple of weeks, i'll be decent enough to get one round on jet's chun-li. i haven't played him with dudley yet (what happened last night yo?), but im still shook from playing his chun in sf4 with Boxer.

In many ways it was like fighting a mirror. Just a better executing mirror. A lot of similar tech, just he executes it much better than I. I seem to be having trouble finding my corners today, so I can't get my crossup or defense of it consistently. Still, much fun to be had mate...

I rarely run into another Chun-mainer it's good to see other mixups and usage of supers/ultras. Going to look at more fightpads/sticks and optimize my network for better performance.

It's like I know which cross up is coming, or the kicks are coming, but my block would be off. Once I get out of rythem, I'm toast. We definitely need to spar again so I can gain some more pointers. Her Kikoken almost makes me want to go back to using a fight pad. But once I get the input timing down I should be OK
