However, that does not mean that Hard Disk Drives aren't a form of memory (which is what he was arguing). It is just more accurate to say "storage" instead of "memory" when referring to Secondary Storage. What I gather from this discussion is that the definitions of what memory is, are varied...

If you look lower in the article you posted under "Characteristics of Storage", you see the following:

Volatility
-Non-volatile memory
Will retain the stored information even if it is not constantly supplied with electric power. It is suitable for long-term storage of information. Nowadays used for most of secondary, tertiary, and off-line storage. In 1950s and 1960s, it was also used for primary storage, in the form of magnetic core memory.

Referring back to an above statement in the article you posted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_data_storage#Secondary_storage) we see that "Secondary Storage" refers to Hard Disk Drives, flash drives and etc. "Storage" is a more accurate term than "Non-volatile memory", however referring to Hard Disk Drives as memory is not incorrect as many have claimed.

As you can see, this means that O_E is not wrong. Now, what does this all mean in the grand scheme of things? Nothing. I mean, we can keep trying to prove each other wrong but just know the articles pretty much show that everyone was correct in their responses. O_E was correct in his statement that HDDs are memory (in the broader sense of the term) and everyone else had a right to be confused because he was using an inaccurate term in a technical setting. To call anyone a fool over such a misunderstanding is foolish in itself. This has nothing to do with a person's intelligence but everything to do with the plight of the English language. English is plagued with many of these little discrepancies... :/

If there's more arguing to be had, it's to be done with the citations above and not with the people on this board...
