197463, Google Picasa or Flickr?

Which is the better web storage option?

Also in terms of desktop photo management, I'm using a mac. Should I go for Picasa for Mac (and download the flickr uploader plugin if that ends of being the better web sharing solution) or should i use iPhoto 09, which I shamelessly just torrented.

197465, Flickr is worthless unless you get a pro account

and even then, I don't personally like it for just storage.

However, if you like photography, it's GREAT and you can get helpful pointers on taking good photos.
197499, i have a pro account and flickr is awesome

197466, I've always preferred Picasa for Mac over iPhoto.

197467, I go for Flickr just because it has less desaturation.

197468, if you take a lot of photos, you should look at adobe lightroom

i just got a new mac and haven't even bothered to look at iphoto 09 because lightroom 2 is the shit. it's super lightweight and the way it deals with picking, organizing and metadata is really easy and intuitive, but it's a pretty powerful app on the retouching front too as long as you don't need a real curves tool. there are plugins you can download to export directly to facebook, picasa and flickr.

sometime in the next couple days i'll probably take a look at iphoto 09, if only for the facial recognition stuff, but I don't like the way iphoto screws with the way your files are organized. the good thing about lightroom though is if you already have an iphoto library you can leave everything the way it is and use the two apps side by side on the same library.
197477, I like the program, but to be fair, Lightroom is a $300 app

iPhoto 09 comes in a bundle with a bunch of other stuff for $80, and is free on new macs.

They're kinda in different ballparks.

I think the better thing to compare it to would be Aperture at $200 (although from what I heard, that's harder to use)

i heard that aperture is a lot more resource intensive than lightroom, so if dude's got an older machine it might be better to look at something else.
197590, Much depends on the kind of library you're maintaining.

For me, with thousands of raw files getting indexed, lightroom is everything but a light app.

I'd say it's a bit overkill for someone who just wants to organize his jpegs.

But it IS a great program indeed.
197474, I prefer flickr.

slideshows are better
sharing/community is better
ability to link directly to photos (/example.jpg)
on that note, the urls are just more friendly, in general
automatically resizes photos into thumb/small/medium/large

the free account gives you a 200 photo limit
so, I have 3 free accounts and "link" them together
by adding each account under contacts
