"The possibility was discussed months ago and now forceunleashed.org has learned that Lucas Arts' own marketing manager Matt Shell has confirmed that a Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo will be releasing to the Xbox Live Marketplace sometime next month. Interesting too is mention that the demo will feature a different experience than the game itself, with a remade Tie Fighter Construction Facility, extra force powers unlocked and a special conclusion to the level that isn't seen in the retail version. Force Unleashed, good or bad? We'll give you an answer next month."

I'm so psyched to play this demo. I just saw the X-Play special and I'm finally giving in to the hype of the game. Just... need to play this demo so I can stop thinking about it and get back to being productive.

Vader's apprentice is the man.

Nothing is more satisfyingg up then picking up some massive piece of hardware and slignshoting it across the room crushing a stormtrooper, ESPECIALLY if they are really far away, lol. The graphics are not completely up to snuff but it doesn't take away from the experience in any shape or form. The story I believe is phenomonal and as always any new Star Wars lore is usually fucking awesome. The fatc that you are experiencing, not just watching, unknown Star Wars story is great to me.

with the combat. it's kind of a ninja gaiden-lite type of thing, with psi-ops on top.

i wanna compare the two. granted its only a demo, but still i want to see if there's a difference.

I'd estimate i'm getting MAYBE 500Kb/sec, probably a little less.

while its still downloading, on the ps3, I streamed a video from hulu, its coming about 5Mb/sec uncompressed mpeg-2 from the router, and about 180k down from hulu, no stutters, and the download moved the saame speed.

cuz it's sad. 80% of the games I play online on PSN have serious lag. the only one that's decent is COD4. Every other game I've played online on PSN has frequent bad lag. I was at my boy's house in Boston a few weeks ago and he had the same problem. It takes him a long time sometimes to download a 300mb demo even with him having Fios. Something's definitely wrong with PSN. People brag about it being free, but there are still problems with it that aren't present on XBL.

I think there is hella people downloading it

It's almost too much of a chore to ever use the lightsaber save for when you impale someone you've force grabbed. I thought the force grab was a chore the first tim I played thru it but once you get into the groove of things it starts to get really fuckin mind blowing.

dash up close, then force push once you power that up. i'd like to be able to block on the move tho., and I found the target lock on to be really imprecise

I'm hoping that there are enough force upgrades and such to keep it interesting. Otherwise this will be fun right up until I trade it in for Fallout 3.

the controls were kinda weird at first. my guess is they take some getting used to to really get into the game. i'm also guessing they really wanted you to rely heavily on those force powers and throwing the saber rather then up-close swordsmanship.

i also noticed that the game plays exactly like God of War. Even down to the green and blue orbs that fly out of enemy bodies.

i'll probably pick it up. it was pretty cool and i have faith that the control issues go away after you play through a full level or maybe they expand upon the training stuff

...im more interested in the story than actually playing the game at this point ...the gameplay wasnt that fun after the thrill of throwing a tie fighter at a bunch stormtroopers wore off

I had a lot of fun playing it, and I was sure before, but I'm definitely gonna buy it when it comes out!!!

Especially the 2nd time around when I actually had a handle on the controls. It really does feel like a much-better controlled Psi-ops though.

Right now, I'm feeling like this is a solid rental cause the gameplay could get stale, but I have a feeling the solid rental is going to turn into a solid buy after a full level or 2 of play.

People kept saying its gonna be "the best SW game ever", but, judging by the demo, it dont look THAT much better than KOTOR or Battlefront games. In fact, i think the first Battlefront will remain my favorite, unless this game REALLY steps up the gameplay. Which I kinda doubt now... We'll see.

I thought we were all going apeshit over how cool the demo was?? I certainly enjoyed it and look forward to the game.

We're going to talk about The Force Unleashed now, so if you don't want to know things about that, you should leave. I might be able to save you some money, though.

I really liked The Force Unleashed in its largely theoretical demo form, but the finished product (at least, on the 360 and PS3) is significantly harder to love. Significantly, as in, I doubt very seriously that Gabriel will complete it. I have done so, culminating both of the game's moral vectors, largely to verify my prior assertion: that they were prepared to deliver a significant, substantial middle chapter. This has absolutely occurred. And if you can find someone else to play the game while you watch, you might be approaching the optimal scenario.

When you are in relatively large environments, amorally doling out grievous injuries with the help of an omnipresent Force, it really seems as though everything is going to be alright. As one cuts a swath through the universe, you gain "levels," which confer a kind of currency on three distinct tracks of development. The guy you played in the demo is some kind of Star Pimp - you have a long way to go before you reach those heights. Generally, you can do things how you want to and still succeed.

Things go less well at virtually any other time. Battles against "boss" characters often feel strangely disconnected from the rest of the game, outside of the skills and techniques you've developed. Strange sound bugs, long falls that don't kill the player but trap them forever outside of the game. Rude, abrupt cutscenes that ransack narrative pace. Pulling a Star Destroyer into a Space Station should have been one of this year's best moments - but the way they chose to model this in gameplay completely ruins it. An odd feedback mechanism combined with a frankly inscrutable user interface and zero help for the player turns the moment to ash.

Much as been made of their materials simulation and physics technologies, and depending on the material being simulated, the results can be extremely compelling. Other things, like Vader's cape let's say, in the first five minutes of play, just look wrong in a way that animation by hand could never achieve. The material this cape is made from - I'm hesitant to call it cloth - takes its orders from some bizarre parallel dimension, flexing and jiving in time to some secret music. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, it's more good than bad, but there are moments where we glimpse a radical interpretation of physical law.

I look on the time I invested with affection, but only in the final accounting - and even then, you and I would almost certainly weigh things differently. The art is far, far beyond anything they've done to date - the environments, the costumes, everything aches with heft and purpose. They've presented a story here that really, honestly makes you think about Star Wars. It is very rarely Star Wars of the jubilant, all-ages, "Jub Jub!" variety. If you've seen the Clone Wars movie, you know it to be a greasy tendril to snare young people. This is not. This doesn't feel like the sometimes controversial Expanded Universe. There are moments where it feels like new Star Wars, something I would never have thought possible.

Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Gears will deliver in some aspect no matter what. You know what you're buying into if anything else, because they are all sequels (sequel-ish in Fallout 3's case coming from the Oblivion camp)

I don't know if you were an original Xbox owner, but the first Fable game was basically Assassin's Creed before Assassin's Creed existed in terms of being extremely disappointing while not being completely worthless.

Everyone knows what Lionhead Studios is about. Fable 2 couldn't be any worse than the first Fable which has people eagerly waiting this one based on the fun they had with the first one. The extra shit they are touting may disappoint but the game won't bomb.
