I've been working on the family computer for over three hours getting this fuckin malware/trojan off this bitch, all becuase they decided to use norton & zonealarm. that combo didn't stop shit, just like I told em it wouldn't.

malware protector 2008 - malware
aspimgr.exe - backdoor
braviax.exe - backdoor ( & named after a sony product I SEE IT)

but it looks like this joint sd fix + combo fix (http://www.myantispyware.com/2008/03/15/how-to-remove-braviaxexecru629-malware/) is finally getting rid of it.

shit wouldn't be killed through any normal means, couldn't install avg, spybot wouldn't run, hijackthis wouldn't run, even those programs wouldn't run, I had to unpack sdfix on my laptop and copy the directory over to run it. but, the script did its job and removed that bullshit.


in closing - fuck norton. if they had just run free AVG like I FUCKING TOLD THEM TO, I'd be doing something else with my saturday night. (porn + xbox live)

At least put linux on the box...something a little less prone to getting infections.

get ubuntu on there and let em loose.

I don't use antivirus software on my own pc, but my father might need it, since he's not too clever when it comes to computers. What's a good one? Preferably free, because subscriptions expire, and then it's just back to square one.

Also, is zonealarm better than XP's firewall? Otherwise I'm not going through the trouble of installing it and then explaining its function to my father.

Besides that, I'll install Spybot Search & Destroy.

it's a piece of shit.

software firewalls are generally useless, and zonealarm is really fucking useless.

I had to take away admin rights from my Uncle on his OWN computer 'cause he wouldn't listen to shit I said. I used to have to go over there every 2 weeks. Since I did that shit I ain't been over there yet. Every time he needs something installed I told him to email me a request and I'll consider it or deny it. LOL

one time he fell for one of those dumb pop ups about free screensavers. It took me forever to fix his pc after he downloaded that shit. I could have killed him.

it was a nice system. printer/scanner, flat screen, small desktop unit, fast cpu, nice speakers

i came back the following week, some dickhead had installed about 4 different antivirus programs on it (ZoneAlarm being one)

now the thing WONT EVEN FUCKING SHUT DOWN

you need to pull the plug on it or it will stay in bluescreen forever

and it generally runs like shit and wont talk to the printer anymore either

I made sure I ran AVG on their computer and am making sure they now how to run it manually.

a friend of mine was using the PAY version of avg and when i scanned his system with avast he had viruses out the wazoo

avg is still my default free AV prog when i install for other people tho. i think avast works better, but it has to be registered in the first 30 days, and then every year after that. people see the shit come up about the registration and think it's trying to get them to buy something.

when i was running windows on the regular avast was what i used. i never had any issues with it. i hope whatever problem u had with it isn't common becasue i isntalled it on a lot of computers lol.
