OMG, the opening when you jump out the truck and everyone is getting blasted and shit and then BAM you're in game. Like it's fucking nothing. They did this two more times and me and my brother flipped our fucking lids!!!

That was prolly one of the easiest MGS bosses I've ever fought in my life (not having played snake eater).

All you gotta do is find her, then stand back and throw a white phosphorous grenade or C4 at her. Then tear her shit in with the PKM or M60E4.

this is why the MGS series is my favorite of all time. Everything that transpired just left me hysterical throughout the whole thing. Laughing, crying, gripping my controller to the point of nearly breaking it. Fucking shit man, I don't think it could have gotten any better than this.

I want so badly to talk about some of the things that go down later on in the game, but I know a lot of you haven't finished it yet. So I'm keeping my mouth shut. The final fight left me laughing and crying tears of joy all at once though.

if I could meet Kojima at least once in my lifetime, I'd give him a firm hand shake and thank him for all of this.

Once you get the gifts that each boss gives you the game is cake. You saw the ending and all but... inbox because they ending is great and I don't want to spoil anyone.

They tied up everything and made it all so easy.

How did you beat the beginning of Act 5?

I ran from far right to the exit opened the hatch with triangle and used octocamo until the alert went off.

How do you shock people during the mission briefings?

I kinda went through the middle using on upper levels using the ladders and railings and then hid off to the side behind those big tank things until I got a clear shot at the door. The Alert went off for you? It didn't for me. Even once I got out of sight and no one was coming after me.

I tried shocking ppl during briefing but it didn't work. All I could do was fling the arm at 'em.

It just came out 4 days ago. Then again, i've been getting a lot of hours at work so I've hardly had a chance to touch it. But, damn, how many hours is the game from start to finish?

I'd say it would take anywhere from 20 to 25 hours to beat.

My game clock said 37 hours, but I'm the type that leaves the game on pause while I go do stuff.

It's around the same length of Resident Evil 4 if you played that.

the camera in MGS4 is really awesome.

There is one part at which you come to a clearing and a PMC is setting a claymore in place. The footsteps fork going right and then there's some "handprints" going left to this metal thing/door/whatever in the ground with all these handprint grooves on it.

Also what the hell does that voice say when you get to the river in this same area and go to the left to the small clearing with birds in it and the grass looks like it's been matted down crop-circle style into a circle? I couldn't make out anything but "look to the east".

I love all of this wierd MGS shit.

It felt like MGS3, but better.

They belong to Kojima and the developers of the game. You can save it to your Octo.

I'm so out of the loop in this series I can't even figure out how to control Snake the right way.

It has nothing to do with playing the previous games. The only thing really similar is the crouching/laying down control.

I guess I wasn't the only one who kept hitting Circle in order to try to confirm an action.

anyway, finished it sunday, but watched the last cutscene last night (so glad that ____ didn't _____ himself). Got an "Eagle" rank (10th highest) and cant WAIT to replay with all mah goodies ^_^

Maybe because there was a 20 minute cutscene before it and a 20 minute cutscene after it and the playtime in the middle was so subpar. I got so bored following him only to get some excitement when one of them blew a barrel up and attracted the attention of the PMC soldiers.

So I turn on my brother's PS3 to get some MGS4 after I worked out over his house and here is the order of operations and a timeline...

4:40PM-Turn PS3 on and boot this sick ass game up

4:46PM-Watch cutscene with Liquid revealing the

5:09PM-Wait for game to install next Act
5:11PM-Watch cutscene for next mission briefing
5:27PM-Skip cutscene, save, and turn off PS3 cuz I had to go do other shit

I was a LITTLE upset with Kojima for this shit. If this was't such an epic chapter in the MGS saga I would consider not playing for some time just because I don't like GRINDING THRU FUCKING CGI MOVIES. Is this that new gaming shit? Grinding thru cgi movies where you don't actually play but you win for sitting thru the fucking cutscenes and load times the longest???

That would be dumb. Then I would have no clue as to what the fuck is happening.

The 3 minute loads between acts that is. The game used every bit of a dual layer Blu-ray( the first I believe). The series always had long cut scenes, so that should not be a surprise. The only issue that I had was.....*spoiler*
















None of the good guys died. To be the final act in this story, and to be so "epic" only the people you expected to die, died.

the theme to all these games is just so amazing and i really feel that no other game will ever be able to pull off what Hideo did in this series.

I don't think I've never been touched by a video game or movie in this way before. Hideo was really right. A video game, if used correctly, is SO much stronger than making a film.

Theres so many prequels they can make to this damn series.

Especially MG2 since that was my favorite of the pre-MGS games.

Just finished Act 2 (7 hours and change. I'm not skipping any cut scenes).

So far so good. The tranq pistol, tranq sniper, knock out shotgun shells and smoke grenades for the launcher make it pretty easy.

No idea how people can play through with no alerts tho. I had 10 in Act 1 then 18 in Act 2.

Slight spoiler, but watch your back in Act 3. Stuff is going on that isn't too apparent the first time around

What I miss that I didn't catch in the first playthrough?

You know that group of dwarf gekkos (the little black balls with arms) that dress up like a person and follow you into a church towards the end of the act?

You can see them following you around the level if you look behind in certain places (it's easier to notice with night vision).

When you try to chase or shoot them, they run away.

The tranq rifle, sleep mines, and stun grenades will handle the ninjas that jump you. You just have to be careful not to tranq the ones clinging to the columns. If they fall at that height then they count as a kill.

I think I tranq'd a few that fell to their death. I had zero kills for that act.

Maybe it depends on the level, because they damn sure counted for me.

It's the not killing AND not getting any alerts thing that really seems impossible.

Mk. 22 silenced tranquilizer pistol and Mosin Nagant sniper rifle through most of it. I occasionally used smoke grenades with the grenade launcher to stun the frogs, then shot em with the tranqs. If anybody got too close, I used CQC.

I'll probably use the same technique for the rest of the game (unmanned vehicles like Gekkos and Strykers don't count as kills).

The shotgun with v-ring ammo is HIGHLY effective in boss fights. If you use non-lethal weapons for both rounds (not just when they take off their suits) you get a little bonus item.

They're non-lethal and more fun than regular ol' tranq rounds

I played it on Hard, which was a pretty good challenge, first, then I started a new game on Solid Normal (which is normal leaning towards hard) for the sake of showing it to a friend who played it for a little while and I can't even imagine how easy VERY easy is compared to this. Seems like a huge discrepancy to me. I got through the first 2 acts with no Alerts, not even trying to be extra careful or anything.

anyway, I haven't seen this Easter egg posted yet so:

and altho I've triggered my fair share of alerts (not having played a MGS game in a few years), it feels completely easy in respect to enemy numbers, damage taken, and damage inflicted. The two boss battles I've fought so far were a breeze, I'm hoping Mantis and Crying Wolf are somewhat difficult.

I CAN'T FUCKIN BEAT LIQUID! that punch he throws in takes about 1/3 of my health in the second part of the fight. i died around 14 times.

I don't have a ps3 in berkeley, but my cousin in South SF does....so I went to his place last night, and got through the first two acts in about 8 hours. That last sequence in trying to escape the market from the Gekkos....fuck me in the ass, that was too fucking good. How did I end up escaping? One of em kicked me into the exit area lmao.

The controls, once you get them down, are fucking ridiculously fluid and that serves to make the gameplay so ridiculously good. The SolidEye is excellent, and I'm loving the addition of Drebin and the customization features.

My fav weapon so far: the M4-custom with fore-grip B, sniper scope, and silencer....you can clear the whole fucking area in about 2 mins without anyone knowing what just happened.

Playing on a 40 inch 1080P LCD, 7.1 dolby w/ the sub booming....combine that with the insane graphical quality, the atmosphere, the story, the breathtaking battles and moments....holy shit.

I'll be posting more as soon as I get farther(ie next weekend lol when I go back)....but the game is of such high quality and drama, I'm completely fucking immersed into the game. Even right now as I type, I feel like I literally just got back from visiting the Middle East and a South American jungle. Cotdamn, hats-off to Kojima-san.

i played thru act 1 and a little bit of act 2 and i am just not as into it as everyone else. i'm not quite sure what it is, but i have found myself going back to ninja gaiden 2 more than metal gear. i'll probably give it another go sometime this week and hopefully the rest of the game is better than the first act.

I've barely played Metal Gear. I'm still on Act 1 for pete's sake. Imma try and get into it more, but I'm just not instantly into it like I thought I would be. I've been going back and playing Ninja Gaiden over too.

In all honesty...One of the best games ever...period! IMO...better than GTA IV and up there with Gears of War and God of War II. To me, it is that great!

Just finished it on hard...what an awesome experience! This was truly like playing a movie. The cutscenes and load times did not bother me one bit...the cutscenes were beautiful and the load times gave me some rest time to pay attention to the lady, make some calls, bathroom breaks, etc. lol

This is next gen gaming...for real, for real.

You can't really front on the PS3...this games shows that the power is there in the system. Developers just have to put in the work.

Call me inexperienced. this is my first MGS, and I simply cannot get into MGO.

the controls, while they take some getting used to, work great for the single player. It's slower-paced so you can take your time.

Online, though, I can't count how many times I've danced with dudes in close range trying to bring up my gun or throw a melee to no avail. There's no weight behind anything - throwing melees with the gun or knife, firing the guns, bumping into people. Does it help if I have the DS3? I dunno. I love stealth games, and I always sneak around in Gears and COD4, so it's not that.

Convince me to try some more. Does it get better when you start leveling up?

It's just too much work trying to play one fucking game.

and I couldn't even get past the second APC on the first act. :(

Shit was crazy hard. So I'm doing my second playthru on Big Boss Hard instead and I think I've triggered about 4 Alerts in the first act and I just finished the four story building with the ninja genome soldier chicks and the Rat Patrol crew.

fantastic all around.

at first when i found out there was 4 hours of cutscenes i was worried, but I was hooked every minute... its up there with any Hollywood release.

the experience is too good to end here. i'd really like to see what the Kojima team does next, whether its a new series similar in nature or a prequel.

ive been playing this series since i was 6 on the nintendo. it's up there with the first resident evil/tomb raider series. one of the best stories ever.

was going to bed after the ending MOVIE but fell asleep during that bastard.

I got stuck when you first get on haven for a few days because I kept getting caught so I slowed it down a little, okay a lot, and finally made it through the door. The rest of the game was a breeze and I like how it becomes different game types during the end.

great fucking game and well worth a free ps3 :-)

Never use p2p when they want you to download an update. The other option was 20 minutes tops.

I couldn't see getting rid of it, despite the foolishly setup multiplayer.

Once you're IN MGO, that shit is fun as hell. I'm hoping down the road they'll fix it's easier to find friends and stuff. Right now it's almost as bad as friend codes.

Hey all I was pulling my hair out with the MGO setup. Dont feel bad the shit is completely asinine. However I did my homework. Ok here are the steps.

1. Dont register via the PS3, hop on your desktop/laptop and go to
http://id.konami.net

just do it on the computer. If you dont have a bluetooth/usb keyboard its a pain in the ass.

2. Once you have that out of the way you need to update MGO to version 1.10 this is also a pain in the ass but only because of one reason

you gotta forward port 5730 on your router (if you are using one). If you dont use a router then I dont know why the update and download is not working for you. For me it would not start or it was really slow. I added port 5730 on my router and all download/update problems vanished.

Once your updated you should be good to go.

3. The username/game id process is retarded but think of it this way you only have to do it once.

My komani id is ShinobiShaw
my game id is Seldom_Seen
my char name is Lights_Out

they tell you not to use the same name for all three but when you think about it WHY? I suggest you use your PSN id for all 3 and call it a day.

The microwave room. How about a nigga was SCREAMING "DONT DIE SNAKE DONT DIE" while mashing the button. I was sure I would of broken my controller.

The ocelot fight in the end. I was getting beat down bad. I had a quarter life left and I managed to ring off 10 straight combo's on him. Dodged all his attacks. Then Cynthia Harrell - Snake Eater kicked in and I whooped on him some more. Tossed him all over the place. I am going to say the ending is just EPIC.
