Now I'm second guessing which one to get. I think I'll still end up sticking with the 360 one just based on the extra content and the fact that I know more people with 360 than PS3. PS3 frustrates me tho when I get game invites while I'm playing a game but I don't know which game it came from.

My worry is that they already said their doing in-game XMB sometime this summer, so if they fix that invite stuff, the game will still run better on PS3.

Plus a game that huge/long with 30+ second load times at points? Man, fuck that.

I was worried about the custom soundtrack situation on PS3 too, but apparently the soundtrack in this is dope as hell (plus other shit like Burnout has gotten it).

I still can't help but feel like I'm getting caught in the hype for this game the same way I got caught in the Madden hype last year.

honestly if i had a ps3 i'd still get the 360 version. i reckon that most of high tech will be getting the 360 version and i wouldn't want to miss out on gta mp with high tech because i couldn't take some minor popup and framerate issues. but that's just me

i'm not that big on online mp *because* of halo, lol. i'm really looking forward to gta4's team based mp with a dynamic environment. i think every match will consist of multiple instances of "HOLY SHIT did that just happen?! HAHAHAHAHA!!!" and stuff like:

sniping the tires of getaway cars while sitting on the skid of a helicopter hundreds of feet in the air

cleverly set roadblocks and traps with multiple players popping out from behind corners to rip apart an opposing team's car with shotgun blasts

bike chases with real players; dodging grenades dropped by the player you're chasing

using the dynamic environment to your advantage i.e. funneling an opposing team into a traffic jam and letting loose the grenades and rockets

etc.

i think once ppl see exactly how dynamic the single player is their heads will explode when they realize that they will have the same experience in mp

h2 was great. it was my first real fps mp experience and i was impressed with the dynamism of the battles in such a static setting. rarely were two encounters the same and interesting things happened almost every match

then halo 3 came out and it was exactly the same as halo 2, only a little more refined and with some new maps and weapons. normally that wouldn't be a problem but i was so used to the h2 experience that i was expecting a bigger leap forward. unfortunately that leap didn't happen. it was still '15 seconds of cool, repeated over and over' but 'cool' was now 'tedium.' every encounter felt the same because everyone used the same tried-and-true tactics. as a result my interest quickly died, along with my interest in fps games in general

I just cant get into the hype. IGN saying this is the best game since Zelda is a bit much. I only played the the 1st GTA and found myself liking the soundtrack more than the game itself. The same goes for Saints Row.

I thought the first games were decent, but seriously flawed (8.0s at best).

I'm thinking I'm still gonna check it out though, if only to hold me over til MGS4.

I bought the GTA games in the past off the hype but then barely played them after a day. Saints Row was the first of that type of game that I actually played all the way through and enjoyed - which made me begin to wonder how good of a next gen game GTA4 would be.

all the reviews are saying this might be the best story ever told in video games.

the style is impeccable.

the graphics are amazing.

the game world is apparently unbelievable.

how can y'all not be excited about this? this shit makes halo look like a browser-based Flash game.

For people who have enjoyed the games, GTA has succeed as the sum of it's parts. Still, from a game play perspective none of the individual elements in the previous games would have been good enough for even budget titles (horrible shooting, horrible melee combat, mediocre driving, etc.). On top of that, you had a lot of dull missions that could sometimes be a pain to complete, dragging the game down even further.

Halo, on the other hand, got the core game play of shooting and piloting vehicles absolutely perfect. Rarely are you doing anything too annoying or too divergent from the core shooting elements.

The only reason I'm kind of excited about this one is that it seems like they may have fixed the gunplay and driving (although the hand to hand stuff from the video looks just as bad as before).

I don't think anybody is buying this "oscar worthy" story stuff and the fact that it's rated highly doesn't mean much considering the last three games all got glowing praise despite the shitty game play. I'm excited about getting this one but I can definitely see why somebody wouldn't be.

Here's a hint: make nice with graveyard shift managers at large inventory store (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) Your smaller shops only have 100-200 copies that they have to hand-count every morning so missing copies are noticed instantly. Your big box places.... they receive them without even opening up the boxes they came in and sit on somewhere around 800 or so copies.

You think anyone is counting that shit?

If you know anyone right now playing the game, I guarantee you, they got it from one of those places and paid an extra $20 for their copy.

I worked at CompUSA and some dumbass manager sold windows xp a day before the street date and our corporate office got a phone call from MS about the sale. they told us any more infractions and we would not be able to sell their product. what are you gonna do with all that shit that comes with it? i can only see getting some use out of the duffel bag. but do i really need a lockbox or an artbook, etc.?

That lock box is really nice. Very high quality. Even the duffel bag is surprisingly well constructed, with a nice gold "R*" interior lining.

The soundtrack is alright, but will be online in a matter of days (if not right this instant).

The key chain is pretty nice. Very thick and solid steel. The art book is kind of whatever. It seems like every game has an art book, now (Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Halo 3, and so on) so that's nothing real special.

Overall, the bonus stuff does have a high quality to it, unlike most SE extras, which are usually Happy Meal Toy quality (ie: Altair figurine, Ninja Gaiden DS sword stylus, etc.)

My only gripe is that the game itself has the same artwork as the regular edition. Would have been nice to have some alternate artwork.

the 360 has Niko because you're gonna get the story plus the extended story later on. it's all about Niko so he's on the box.

the PS3 version will look a little prettier, and while visually appealing and good for a short period of time, after the fun is done, it's done, so you get the girl/hooker.

The PS3 version gets the female who the player who plays a role in the game somehow. All I know is I'm clocking off work three hours early for GTA 4.

I preordered the game for the 360 because of the extra content that is coming but the reviews are saying that the PS3 version is running better. I own both systems so calm down fanboys I just want to get the best one. Is the PS3 is going to eventually get the new content?

There is no indication that the PS3 won't get any DLC, just that the 360 willhave some content that the PS3 will not.

I would think, and this is pure speculation, that because of PS3's surging sales in the US, PS3's dominance in Europe and Japan, the fact that the series is generally associated with the Playststion brand and the fact that it will be a pack in for Europe...well, I don't think R* would leave all that money on the table by not giving PS3 any downloadable content at all.

I own both as well and I'll get the PS3 version since it's technically superior. If the 360 DLC ends up being amazing, I can always trade my PS3 copy in for a used 360 copy.

They also say the 360 version runs smoother, not the PS3 version. The PS3 version has just slightly shorter load times, slightly brighter colors, and a lil less tearing. They say it's hardly noticeable in terms of appearance, but the 360 version runs smoother than the PS3 version. With the additional content, the 360 version will be the route I go tonight.

That's basically what I've been saying.

Since nobody knows what any of the content is gonna be, to me it doesn't make sense to worry about that right now.

That's interesting. There's a huge post on neogaf comparing the two and there seem to be conflicting reports on which one has the better framerate.

It could very well be that the 360 does have the better framerate, but it's dependant on what model 360 you have. There why some widespread problems with Bully in terms of how it ran on the old chipsets vs the new falcons so I could see that being the case with this as well.

The lack of pop up and shorter load times are gonna have me getting the PS3 version (plus who knows when a RRoD could come...), but I didn't pre-order so I'll have to pick it up tomorrow.

i was one...
first off, this game is the tits. After going rogue mid mission cuz i was high and distracted, I decided that a few thugs on the corner needed a knifing. After one of them came at me with a pistol, i disarmed him, and quickly killed his posse. After 5-8 minutes of running from the police with 3 stars, i seem to shake'em via a bridge walkway. I find a pack of people and slowly walk when all of a sudden flying up from the side of the bridge...2 Helicopters!

the way he leans in the direction he walks in...he runs REALLY stiffly and funny. The jumping animation is very familiar...looks the same would never change that. Scaling obstacles is seamless. Jumping fences or barriers are intergrated well even in full sprint.

Multiplayer is sick.
You can jump right in at ANY TIME. You use your cell as a UI to hop right in, modify your appearance and play. It's really well done.

This is the game of the year.

The entertainment product of the year.
No matter what REAL 7th Gen console (PS3/XBOX360) you own...you must cop.

you can see different views of the outside of the train and that's about it.

currently trying to evade 2 stars police on a rainy, lightning lit night in the back-alleys and rooftops of Hove Beach. the police actually ahve line of sight now, which is like, probably the single best impovement they could have possibly have made. i was hiding behind a dustbin watching them split up and scout the area. and they found me... need to pick better hiding places

the game is absolutely incredible.

the attention to detail is staggering.

the gameplay and AI is MUCH improved.

Nothing wrong with my connection...I could get online and on the PS3 store.

However, when I go to Multiplayer at the cellphone and try to connect...it says "cannot connect to game provider, please try again later"

before I step out...a few comments on the game...


so far, a very fine tuned version of GTA...it is exactly that...a next gen version...everything is upgraded.

but, still feels like the same game, but more awkward in areas. Poor control walking around, fighting/punching/pushing is worse than before and is really poorly done....driving takes getting use to and missions rely too much on the phone....so far, the beginning is not as fun as San Andreas...lack of customization in areas that were there in previous versions. Liberty City is smaller than I anticipated. Music choices are so so...minus Primo and the Bob Marley station.

Still a fun game....these are just minor complaints of a superb game. I know there is still much more to come and multiplayer seem excellent...only if I could connect?!?!?!

i got on once when i first played and havent been able to since

i know it's not my connection or NAT type. i put in COD4 and it still worked fine but it won't allow me to play in the party OR play multiplayer for myself on GTA. The single player is still fun but the multiplayer is the main reason i purchased this game. BTW are u on live or ps3?

I bought a 360 and the game.
The 360 is a piece in itself, it's brand new, and already it's got issues just booting.
But every time I leave multiplayer, shit freezes on the loading screen.
And playing Cops & Crooks, if you play a round and then try to play another, it freezes when it loads up the game.
I don't know if that's just server overload or wack code, but it needs to be fixed.

I guess that's the problem with a game so big and with so much shit; somethings bound to not work right.

I took Michelle to the bar for our second date. Next thing I knew I was falling down FUCKED UP!!!

It took me a minute to realize what was going on. My controller started to shake. The radar flashed this red light. I kept falling down when I was trying to walk. I thought I was being attacked!!!

It took me a minute to realize, "oh this cat is drunk"!!! Driving home was way too realistic for my tastes. I was stumbling on the way to the bathrom!!!

BTW, they weren't lying when they said the driving controls take some getting used to!!!

I can't stop playing ranked deatmatch, its just so fucking fun, and it seems so different each game based on how the host does the settings... so aweomse

PS3 pros:
fewer pop-ins and shorter load times because of the installation.

360 pros:
HD resolution, slightly smoother frame rate, exclusive DLC, and xbox live integration.

maybe they should have used 630p for that one, too.

i've seen the PS3's being called "warmer" in places and blurry in others. it's nearly unanimous that the 360's version has more detail though, and i haven't seen one review say the PS3's looked better, and i've read a lot of them so far.

like i said, the naked eye prolly can't tell much of a difference, but there's still an aspect of false advertising going on.

i mean, i ain't no 360 fanboy, i plan on getting a ps3 when MGS drops (i choose a ps2 over an xbox too), so i ain't got no problem admitting that Halo 3 fucked up on that too (it's one of the many reasons COD4 is better). there's no reason the PS3 version ain't at least 720p tho. it has the power to handle it, and from what i can tell the blurriness doesn't flatter the PS3 version at all.

i did some crazy jumps with a motorcycle, i was going around the train tracks with it fast as hell, hit some sort of jump and caught about 10 seconds of air and actually landed it.

i actually like the driving physics, the walking around is a little awkard but oh well

Saying Live Gold is great is kind of misleading though, since it's more or less the 360 firmware that makes that shit work. Live Gold is just you paying to play games online (and most don't have dedicated servers, which makes no sense). All that messaging, seeing what your friends are playing and sending invites is done through the blades in the 360's firmware.

PSN essentially offers the same functionality as far as being able to message and invite friends to games and see when they're on and offline (as well as what they're playing). The big difference is that without in game XMB to take advantage of it while you're playing a game, it's not going to seem as good as LIVE.

Once they do that (any day now...), it's pretty much the same thing.

it's not a standard but it is the actual resolution of the game according to the pixel nerds and dorks out there.

i brought it down from 1080p to 720p(630p 'actual') and the motion is more fluid imho.

I went back and did this again, but this time, when Roman called for help, I went on my date with Michelle instead of helping out the cousin. Anyway, I thought the conversation with Roman that occurs as a result was pretty funny. "Don't worry, I would also have a hard time choosing between your safety and some titties!"

while in the whip, press and hold B (o on ps3) to enter cinematic mode. While in cinematic mode push in the left analog stick to enter slow mo.
I've been having alot of fun pullin donuts, and big car wrecks. I've also found it useful for navigating tight spaces on a road or between cars.

got through the mission first try HAMMERED, and this morning remembered playing the game but could not remember one thing about what happened in the plot.

that being said this game is fantastic.

DO NOT get drunk in the game if you are drunk in real life. That shit will make you vomit faster than a 15 year old girl at the bar with Roger Clemens.

WOW. Now Im really impressed. Times Square and Central Park look amazing. Went to Perseus and Modo and copped myself some fresh gear and one of those white M3 looking jawns with the black rims and picked Michelle up for a date.
